Crime Gunman at a Texas elementary school kills 19 students and two adults before being fatally shot, officials say - yeehaw

(CNN)A suspect is in custody after a shooting incident at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, left at least two dead and injured 14 people, including students, authorities said.

The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District (UCISD) posted about an "active shooter" at Robb Elementary at 12:17 p.m. local time and said law enforcement was on site.

The suspect was taken into custody as of 1:06 p.m. local time, according to the Uvalde Police Department.
Two have died after the shooting at Robb Elementary School, a spokesperson from Uvalde Memorial Hospital told CNN.

The hospital received 13 children at their facility who were being treated for varying injuries, he said. Two children were transported to San Antonio and another is pending transfer, Tom Nordwick said.

Additionally, two patients were dead on arrival, he said. Nordwick was not sure of the ages of the two deceased. A man in his 40s was also being treated there, he said.

Nordwick did not have conditions on any of the victims.

You know, there 's a huge difference between wanting to see real and substantial reform in the law and the way communities are policed and getting rid of of law enforcement altogether. The US to too large and too diverse (which is deliberate) and it's not longer a high trust, homogeneous society. We could debate if this diversity is a good or bad thing (in a different thread) but immigrants no longer need to adapt to American culture and beliefs, so they are allowed to indulge in all the practices from their country of origin, regardless if they are good or bad, and are not encouraged to learn English anymore.

I believe you can be a Muslim all you want in America, but you can't cut up your daughter's genitals, slaughter a goat in a parking lot/backyard or kill your relatives for shaming you without facing arrest and incarceration. It's not exclusive to Muslims or any particular ethnic group/race either; niggers now believe not allowing them to nigger out is racist. This is a set up to cause tension and bad behavior, which is probably intentional, but we need well trained and competent law enforcement, not imbeciles after a pensions and authority, to enforce good behavior and detain criminals. Of course we need a competent and efficient government too (because the environment in which this schizo was raised nurtured bad behavior) but that's for a different thread.

The far right hates cops and has since ruby ridge. Maga right doesn't have any real position and will happily put "don't tread on me" stickers next to "molon labe" and "don't tread on me" ones because it's all just signalling.

But I do wonder what the more mainstream right will do or think. Policing tends to have swings. In the 70s it was hated by the left and appreciate by the "law and order" right. By the 90s, it had swung because of those same incidents (waco, ruby ridge, etc) and you had the Clintons pushing money into policing to deal with 'super predators' killing people in black neighborhoods. After 9/11 there were some years, after a brief hero moment, everyone kinda stayed neutral on policing in general. The you had Obama and his "beer summit" and things started going bad and Michael Brown sent everything into overdrive. I am guessing the shift will happen again, at some point.

How to Fix Policing:

1. Remove any and all frivolous and corrupt use of money in municipal departments, including "diversity and inclusion Czar" positions.
2. Make sure that only registered citizens are allowed to be police.
3. Require body cams on all officers and provide excellent public defense for officers acting in the line of duty.
4. Allocate more money to training and payroll, so quality candidates actually want to become policemen.
5. Raise application requirements for departments.
6. Increase public support for law and order policies so police actually feel like giving a shit has a purpose.
7. Dismantle or de-power police unions to de-politicize the profession.

The Gorge Floyd incident did possible irreparable harm to the thin blue line in America. Basically every good policeman quit thanks to that load of BS, and I doubt they are coming back. All we have now are scabs.

1- sure, that would help free up money. Also stop mandating hours of bullshit training that takes away from actual training. Good luck, though. Everyone loves to add 8 hours of training whenever something bad happens instead of addressing deeper issues. 8 hours meaning that as long as you sit there in the mandated training for 8 hours, that's it.
2- This is not a real problem, or if it is, it's the least of them.
3- Complicated... but probably necessary (complicated because it ends up reducing officer discretion which can be good and bad. Suspending officers for using a naughty word because the supervisor reviewed their BC footage and they said "fuck" to some gang banger is what ends up happening, though. Problem because sometimes that's how you have to talk).
4- This is a big one, especially money for in service training (i.e. not just the academy)- but it's a huge ask. Very few places want to spend a lot more money on police!
5- directly related to 4 (because you can only do this when you have more applicants) but also, what are application requirements? Who do you want as a cop? This is an unanswered question nationally. Some places think former military, some places want college degrees, some want a diversity of experience, etc. Policing used to be a very blue collar, middle class job.
6- Big one and can reduce problems with #4 ad #5 but there's really no way to actively do it. Even if every other cop in America was working hard towards this end, some doofus in Texas can ruin it for everyone by letting kids get shot while they wait outside.
7- this is just a talking point right up there with "get rid of the NRA." Police unions are a shell of what they used to be and have a very useful purpose that they can't really even fulfill anymore- to stop politicians from fucking over cops. You're not going to 'de politicize' police by getting rid of them.

If I may add my own:
- Empower field training officers to FAIL bad cops instead of passing them along. This won't happen unless a place has enough applicants, though. People are becoming cops who should have been weeded out long before. Also, field training should be held up as a crucial function. The guy in the George Floyd case was training 3 (!!) cops fresh out of the academy? Insane.
- Stop doing fucking tiktok shift dance videos this shit is embarrassing, you aren't winning hearts and minds you are making fools of yourselves in a uniform people have died over
- Chiefs, who are typically chosen due to their connections, should not be able to be appointed if they do not have some confidence of the rank and file.

On a different subject, this tells me the entire Uvalde police force should be disbanded. While the police force is being reconstituted, county sheriff's deputies, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, and Texas Rangers could take their place. Unless the Uvalde Police officer can prove they weren't at the school during the shooting, no present Uvalde Police officers would be allowed to apply for the new police department.
