Part of the reason for this is the technology. Phones use capacitive touch screens which sense your fingers since they(your fingers) are conductive and alter the capacitance in a circuit when close. Cars often use resistive touch screens which don't require a finger but respond to pressure so they work with gloves, pens and other non-conductive items, but you have to press harder for the 2 layers of the touch panel to get closer to each other to sense the touch. There are phone compatible gloves with conductive materials but I suspect the vending and car vendors want to work with all possible methods of touch.
Things that piss me off: Meetings that should have been an email and then you get done 10 minutes early and they say "hey, we're giving you back 10 minutes in your day"... No, you fucks already stole 50 minutes.
