Sony hate thread

Centennial Case was released in the west.

Digital only doesn't count.

I would not discount companies like Limited Run picking it up, they've done so for a load of other shit.
Which is lame for a *Square* game of all things. I already have my copy so it's irrelevant. Limited Run are lazy fuckers and I can't be bothered ordering from them unless I have no choice.

I think because it is really kind of off-brand for them.

They published LIS but it's always been denoted as not being done by Square themselves and is marketed very differently as to keep degrees of separation from their main shit.

People buying a Square Enix game and then being treated to an FMV sequence would be rather jarring. It's not what they really built their name on. I mean it's a genuine movie game, not a forced allegory agisnt a game that some people may not like, but an actual old school FMV thing with real actors.

Their literally no reason to own any console.
Well until steam shits itself and people then find out that they never owned their games in the first place.

But my 9 copies of Skyrim, those are eternal. You can't have 9 versions of the same game on PC. Even Among Us patched that out so you can't have multiple games open at once.

Which this plays really no different from Life is Strange which Square also bothered to keep.
Except Life is Strange is cringe shit and Centennial Case actually looks fun.

Steam isn't going anywhere. However, it may as well. A lot of older games don't work on modern hardware, effectively gutting a huge chunk of classics. There's workarounds usually, from what I read, but not anything most people will bother with.

I guess that's a step up from Sony and Nintendo shutting down their stores, but still, not ideal. Not sure what could be done though.

Cracks don't exist in your world I guess
No they do.

Cringe is a matter of perspective. These are both games that rely heavily on non-interaction for the majority of the game, they may appeal towards different audiences but there's not much separating them when it comes to gameplay mechanics.

Yeah except the PS5 going MTX heavy is specifically for the asian crowd(which they will eat up as seen in Genshin Impact) and the PS5 itself is already performing better throughout asia than the PS4 did at the same point in time. Sony just recently established a major Chinese division for game development and the demographics between Asia and Japan are not a whole lot different when it comes to what game genres they desire. Games like Apex Legends are popular in both Japan, Korea, and China as is stuff like Genshin.
Funny how you entirely ignored @Hammr2 's post on the same page because it destroyed your made-up narrative:
Apparently, you forgot about the other games in "Incredible content".
View attachment 3348848
GTA5, NBA and FIFA, all these big three have microtransaction in their game too. With NBA and FIFA have their own lootbox model. "Incredible content" with 4 games being gacha/microtransaction heavy, bravo Sony. No wonder why they want GAAS so much.
And I'm fairly certain that Fate/GO and Uma Musume are bigger influences as mobile gacha games in Japan than Genshin Impact. But that's just a mere observation as a result from browsing japanese communities, not as someone who actually plays that type of game so ???

Square's main install base for their games is on playstation that's why there's no switch port of Final Fantasy 16 either. Bandai Namco is in a similar position which is why Elden Ring and Tales of Arise didn't get brought to the switch.
All those games you listed took a massive amount of time to be made from the ground up:
According to producer Yusuke Tomizawa, development of Arise began before the announcement of the Definitive Edition of Tales of Vesperia in 2018.
Elden Ring was developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. It was announced at E3 2019 originally for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. No further information was revealed until a June 2021 trailer announced a release date of January 21, 2022, with additional releases on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
During the original announcement the game [Final Fantasy 16] was also said to be developed for Microsoft Windows; this was later retracted, with Square Enix announcing it as a timed console exclusive for the PlayStation 5.
None of them could have predicted the PS5 would be a commercial mess like it is currently after one year & half in the japanese market, unable to take the mantle of the PS4 (while both the PS3 and PS4 could respectively in their own timelines).

And I'm reposting the retail graph from a few pages back as I suspect you to have conveniently ignored it for the sake of your fanfiction.

Well, it just proves Square-Enix's and Bandai-Namco's audiences are primarily on Switch firstmost with retail game sales not only larger in total numbers but also with stronger legs in the long run. Worth to mention the Densha de Go port on Switch came out several months late but ended up being the best-selling version.

But what about [current year] then?
[NSW] The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story (Square-Enix) [2022.05.12] - 7.529
[PS4] The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story (Square-Enix) [2022.05.12] - 3.476
[PS5] The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story (Square-Enix) [2022.05.12] - 3.503
ouch

I spent many tens of hours collecting those 900 korok seeds and all but two hours clearing the main line game dungeons. I discovered all the locations, beat all the shrines, and even killed all the overworld bosses because that's a requirement for the secret shop(that and I collected all special horses and cosmetic horse armor).
As @HeyYou pointed out earlier in this thread:
At some point, the amount of games and consoles that you own that are conveniently relevant to your specific argument becomes a bit incredulous.

Digital only doesn't count.
Even if we were to count digital, I safely assume Steam makes up most of those japanese game sales in a global scale, not Playstation.

Integrated virtual machines that could emulate 32-bit Windows and GPUs from the time, I guess? Though that sounds like an enormous project as far as testing goes, considering the absolute breadth of the platform. Like, 32-bit Windows has got to be the platform with the most software ever made, considering that covers the entirety of Windows 95 AAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL the way up through Windows 10. And counting, of course, since plenty of low-end apps are still written as 32-bit applications.

It's literally beat for beat a ubisoft game.
I'd get sick of it too if I felt the autistic need to collect every single korok seed. I loved that game, but I only ended up with maybe a hundred of them. I didn't do every shrine, either. I just explored the game on my own and only looked at a guide, like, seriously, twice. Breath of the Wild was unparalleled in being a game designed around exploring for yourself.

You're one of those people that writes entire novels about how terrible a game is on Steam reviews, but then it shows how you've put over 2,000 hours into the game. You overindulged. Overindulgence on anything you enjoy is never a good idea. It's well known that's a bad thing to do. It's literally one of the seven deadly sins: it's gluttony. Don't be a glutton with your games and you'll enjoy them more.

Not to mention the limitations of trying to play said win 95 games on win 7-10 ( or even XP )

"Oh what's that? Your machine has a fuck-ton of colors? ERROR! ERROR! MUST HAVE 256 COLORS!!!"

Games like Sonic CD (Win95 version) and Virtua Fighter PC can't even run without a fan-made patch.

GOG releases usually make them in a bootable state, and most fixes are super easy. Good example is Max Payne being not bootable on Ryzen 3000 due to some instruction sets missing, but fans patched that and the game is bootable without patches on Ryzen 5000.

I think 70% of people who play want to play older games do try to play them and fix them.

Right click on application, go into properties, click on compatibility tab. Limited colors are right there

My point was that older games need extra steps to get them to work properly on newer 32-bit windows, meaning developers would have a harder time with making them work on newer OS' if they went through an emulation route, which isn't perfect. Even WINE has it's issues.

So far GOG has it right with DOSBOX/ScummVM packaged with it's older shit, but stuff outside of that needs even more work.

Well yeah. That's why vulkan/proton is a god-send, because it does all of the legwork for them. Food for thought: Run GTAIV through a vulkan wrapper and it will run without stutter.

Why would you want to play the single-core port of Sonic CD when the Christian Whitehead version is available and has more features than the win95 port?

I think Sony must regret releasing the PS5 so early. Who drops a new expensive as fuck console during a time when there's an economic recession and computer chip shortage? When scalper culture is at its peak?
That's not necessarily Sony's fault. Covid and the response happened out of nowhere.

PS5 games look exactly the same as PS4 games. What was the point of pivoting to a new gen when the PS4 still had so much life left in it and such a massive user base? I think console gens will probably last a decade going forward, if not longer.
If they just left the PS4 as is without another generational leap, games would perform worse. Remember the PS4 and Xbox One were outdated a year or so after launch because of their anemic CPU.
