Lasseter got cancelled about four years ago, so I doubt Disney gives much of a fuck about what he thinks anymore. I'd guess either there's some kind of legal issue at play, or they've been holding it back to coincide with the release of this new movie.

They just want to forget about the series since they "borrowed" so much from Star Wars itself not to mention that it actually had decent plot lines, characters you actually cared about not to mention the lore it created with all the different aliens planets and species.

All can Disney do nowadays is rely on what was in the beginning of Toy Story 2 for the cut storyboard of the Buzz Lightyear TV show from the first Toy Story.

Guess they must have gotten stuck trying to unfuck that for current year sensibilities.

Tia Carrere Reveals The One Thing Lilo & Stitch’s Remake Should Fix And How She Would Like To Be Involved​

TL;DR: The soundtrack "needs" more Hawaiian artists. That's it. Tia, 2 things.

1. Those "paltry" 2 Hawaiian songs are among the most beloved in the Disney canon. I dunno about you, but I'd consider that a win.

2. You know those non-Hawaiian artists were most likely chosen because of marketing reasons, right? Sorry, but that's how it is when you're dealing with the Rat.

Also:
When speaking about the potential remake, Carrere, who memorably appeared in Wayne’s World and True Lies, also spoke about perhaps having a cameo in the live-action version.

The great thing about the original film was that it didn't deal in Hawaiian cliches. Anyone else would have put steel guitars over the film. Instead they decided to set the film to Elvis. (And they never used "Blue Hawaii".)

Final televised appearance of Walt before his death in 66. He's like an old grandpa talking to his grandkids by the fireplace. Hard to believe he had only one functioning lung left and was almost out of sand in his hourglass when this was filmed. There's also something almost prophetic about his final words being "You're not only going to laugh a lot but shed a few happy tears. I'm sorry I can't be with you personally." He was half right tears would be shed...but not in happiness.

I'm kinda glad he's not around to see what's been done with his life's work.

It's sad to see so many legacies tossed aside, to make way for what? The sweet manna of better performing quarterly financial reports?

They were super incredibly respectful about portraying the island accurately (and also getting Silvestri to do the orchestrated music helped a lot too). Hell, when it came to the dance school they recorded actual hula dance sessions and Chris Sanders let it be known that at no point where they do draw fake hula, they had to do it right and recreate the imagery they recorded. It's also how they came up with 'ohana as the central theme of the movie as well.

As for Elvis, IIRC Sanders is a huge Elvis fan and thought it'd be fun to incorporate that into Lilo's personality, which was another genius move because it gave the film more character that made it stand out even more.

God, I just realized. They're only remaking Lilo & Stitch just because the director's a white man, isn't it? Reminds me of when that one woman bent the knee and pulled her book that was set in Hawaii about hula dancing and she had lived in the state for a time prior to moving to North Carolina, but she's whiter than sour cream and that's "cultural appropriation".

It's just so gross.
