Just going to throw out some guesses.

-Rent in most urban environments is so high that if you're not working fulltime at a $25 per hour or more job it's not really worth it
-People have been increasingly fleeing the bugman hives from said high rent to either live in the middle of nowhere or back with their family
-Gas prices are so high that living in a cheaper area and driving an excessive distance to work in some bugman paradise is also not worth it
-Having to pay 50% of your income to the state that's slowly draining us all of life seems like an evil prospect when you could just bum around with low pay under the table jobs who's income you don't have to report while paying little or nothing in rent if your family can actually put up with you
-General malaise
I should also add on:

6) Customer Service sucks nowadays: Most of the struggling jobs are wagie positions where you need to deal with customers, and that is something no one wants to do nowadays. A lot of places already treat you like you are disposable, but to put up with the forefront of clown world is another story.

In the Covid thread, people were legit advocating to harass workers over mask mandates to fight the system with the goal being to make them quite to topple the business into giving in. So even on this forum we have examples of people having to put up with clown world bullshit to make 12 or less an hour.

Even past that though, we have so much else:
  1. LGBT+ Snowflakes who go on bitch fits for not identifying them correctly. Some even trying to post kids on social media to be harassed as Alt-right whatever-phobes.
  2. Retarded Boomers that can easily use tech if they tried, but are far too stubborn and just make shit a hassle.
  3. Silent Gen/Boomer/ Xer/ Millenial assholes who think because they went through the system they are now granted the ability to be dicks. This is especially true with the older generations, as, while I love my silent gen grandfather, he purposely makes things a pain in the ass for workers because he likes the status. Having people run back and forth to get him the dumbest shit.
  4. Social media addicts that make your job into their content, either by sending people after you or trying to pull some bullshit, like pranks, for the views. Alex from Target is a good example as him just doing his job led to thirst.
  5. Karens that get a high off fucking up everyone’s day with petty bullshit because they love the control.
  6. Activists - we have all seen 2020.
Really, why would any sane person want to deal with people today. Most people are just vapid assholes looking to make your job hell for the sole satisfaction of having the power to do so. Older gens can pull out how they had to work these positions, but they likely never had to deal with a tenth of the shit the current day throws, and they were probably paid better in relation to their economy. Now you get paid jack shit to suck dick, hardly a worthwhile endeavor. Doesn’t help that many will ruin these kids lives for a simple slip up thanks to technology, making it so being responsible and working may be the worst thing you can do.

We have had some people quit where I work to go sit at home and collect a tugboat because it’s more cost effective. And I live in one of the cheapest parts of the nation for COL.
Driving 50+ miles a day round trip commute in a V8 truck is making me seriously consider getting a motorcycle, even though I've never rode one and never even learned to ride a bike. I love having a truck and do use the cargo capacity plenty, but it uses too much gas to commute in it daily. I'm now spending close to 1/4 my pay on just buying gas to get to and from work.

Doing math from current gas prices and the prices of motorcycles on Craigslist, a bike could pay for itself in little over half a year.

"We can't find workers" is basically a manufactured narrative to justify the continued migration of cheap labor to the developed western world.
And I distinctively remember them not shutting down the borders during covid times in California.

And the POTB wonder why many are so damn resistant to the vaxx and the overall narrative.

But in terms of the job market here in Commiefornia, shit is fucked. There are companies out there that DEMAND that you have a car to go to work. Never mind the high gas prices.

Companies are still picky as fuck. They may say they are struggling, but I have spent this last year applying for both a minimum wage position (to get through last year of college) and internship positions within the very open tech field (according to my dad who works in marketing for such). You wouldn't believe how hard it is to get work still, and I am someone with a good record, with quite a few jobs on my resume. Even applying for like Chick-Fil-A a year ago, they still wouldn't communicate.
To build on this point and your other post, in the past couple years I've seen a lot more slightly-above-entry level places looking for people with degrees in marketing, exotic horticulture, zoology, etc., even masters degrees, while only offering minimum wage, often with no benefits. Imagine my shock when I see the same hiring ads popping up from these idiots every two or three months. I know a few people living in other cities who tell me they've noticed the same thing.

$100k+ in student debt, poor compensation for one's time and skills/education, no job security, and almost no opportunities for advancement? Gosh, what a dream - sign me up! People are just going to start their own small businesses, find odd jobs around their communities, run deliveries on a flexible timetable, or do almost anything else instead of wasting their time with an employer like that while inching closer to suicide by the day.

Tampons are another thing entirely, you really can’t stick any old material up there
Sea sponges. I knew a hippie chick who used them.

As for the "we can't find workers" thing, I can explain that for Canada. They post ads with ridiculous qualifications, and low wages, specifically trying to not fill the position. Then they can claim, "we couldn't find anyone local" and they can apply for Temporary Foreign Workers.

Everywhere you go now, the service enployees are Indian. Walmart, fast food, nursing homes.

Sure, as long as you can call out or rent a car when it rains, and you don't live anywhere with freezing temps or snow in winter...

This behavior isn't even Canada exclusive, although the particulars of why vary by country. Pretty much every western nation has a bunch of additional, non-productive requirements for hiring around diversity and representation initiatives - The government generally doesn't have the authority to determine if something is a good or fair job offer beyond basic labor laws, so ridiculous skill expectations with ridiculous compensation allows them to claim they totally tried to fill the diversity requirements. Most of these laws have provisions along the lines of "and if you can't make that work, you can still hire someone else, but you gotta provide proof you tried". So they 'try', flop and fail, and then whomever it is they actually want.

Just think about that for a moment, the hiring laws are so garbage that corporations, notoriously lazy and penny pinching entities, will hire people who's whole job it is to make bad postings and run bad interviews, to generate reasons to not follow those laws. Shows how fucked the thing is.

I make a dish called "crack slaw", which is hot sausage and chopped cabbage drowned in Sriracha. Looks like I won't be making it for a while *sigh*

See, here's the thing. In order to import an H1B serf, you have to "try and fail to fill the position," or somesuch.

How many of those are them fulfilling the letter of the law before importing a serf?

Ya, I'm in a similar situation, the only problem with motorcycles is other drivers. People were bad at driving before covid, now I feel it would almost be suicidal to ride a bike with how people currently drive. Just a few days ago my boss had her car totaled because some asshole was on his phone and drove into on coming traffic, she was almost killed and the cops didn't ticket the tard. If she had been on her motorcycle she'd be a smear on the pavement.

If you do go through with getting a bike plan your budget around getting the best protective gear you can afford then factor in the cost of a bike, that $60 difference on a helmet could be the difference between a concussion and a smashed melon. Also higher price doesn't always mean better protection so you'll have to do research into which article of gear is better for you.

Ive seen that at times in new england. Especially lately, Im told its hard for transport companies to get drivers. You need hazmat certs and everything else to drive a tanker and those guys are in top demand.
right now you can get the same pay as congressmen being a tanker trucker. the problem is there's a reason the pay is so high, trucker culture and lifestyle could be argued to be worse than moby dick era whaler lifestyle. sure you could make 160k a year but you won't have much free time to spend it, most of your social circle will be whatever you hear out of your speakers, you'll be on meth for most of your awake life as well, because no one accounts for any of the numerous mishaps that happen on high ways, such as snow or rain, so you have to make it up somehow then there is the constant waiting in line at weigh stations and other hassles. for fucks sake they only got cruise control in the last decade or something, sleep induced accidents are so frequent despite the consequences most companies will settle the lawsuits, tracy morgan is just a famous example of a victim but they are more numerous than you'd think.

honestly if you take the whole "delivering goods" part out of the equation trucking is like something out of a psychological horror film, a man is forced to live on meth and in isolation the only company what he has on the radio, he only can shower and eat communally once a day with other victims in the grimmiest places away from real people, even the hookers resemble lizards more than people , and if he's lucky he gets to go home once a month.
The illegals will mostly scurry back to their shitholes, yes, but the pajeets and muslims who flooded every first world nation and own property are in it for the long haul. We're stuck with them forever. In a twisted sense, I get a sick satisfaction knowing that they'll suffer along with us and in some cases will be even more miserable than us (due to them missing their culture). It's very I Have No Mouth. We'll all suffer together for eternity.

Meanwhile countries like Japan will feel forever vindicated in their xenophobia and racism. Good for them.
immigrants behave a lot like italian americans, the muslims and indians keep their traditions hard, plus the natural enclaves will mean regardless of where they are it will just be little pakistan. look at the tech industry.
I need my thunkfull rating back.

The number of food processing plants just going up in flames is...odd. I have heard some people posit it is gayops from either the US government or foreign agents.

The total lack of any response on this from the elected officials is infuriating. We can afford to send guns to the fucking Ukraine for resale, but we can't feed our own children. Fuck this timeline.
its a US glowie op, arson investigation is right up there with child murder investigations: we have enough history, research, and dedicated people that its literally impossible to get away with, beyond that regulations mean they can't not look into how the fire started with evidence as to why. even when this happens by accident, it doesn't.

Just a reminder that the US has like 35k+ food and beverage processing plants. A few burning down isn't cause for alarm. Its suspect, but not some conspiracy.

its not even the halfway point and we're at about 1% of the fuckers gone, if 1% of any infrastructure got destroyed every year, we'd still be in the dark ages. imagine if every year the same percentage of football players dropped dead or fighter pilots or bridges or high ways or congressmen.

the fact that faggots like you go "lol no big deal" instead of "silly goyim 90000 of these places burn down every year" proves its a big deal. because if you had a number that could shut people the fuck up you'd use it. and again, its not halftime yet.
A lot of mysterious fires in Russia too. Maybe there's a cyber war going on right now that we just aren't hearing about?

But more likely its greedy companies working overtime and skimping on safety because of supply chain problems.
saftey systems usually aren't something you can hack into the way you think for various reasons sometimes just age. beyond that its not something you can skimp out on, you're better off as a greedy company openly deciding to be racist or sexist in hiring policies with how quickly the government fucks you on this stuff. the labor commissioner sets a pretty low bar because she feels better about ass raping the companies that don't clear it.
That's what I'd think, but, there's just too many of them. It's like people trying to explain away the church fires in Europe and Canada the past few years as "lol they're old what do you expect" when some of them were shit like "Hey lets hire muzzies to rennovate them" and "we investigated for 5 minutes and found nothing wrong don't ask questions and stop filming the muzzies cheering and dancing in front of the fire, it's a hate fact."
this goes to my other point, if its arson they know as quickly as a coroner would if someone died of a gunshot to the head vs a heart attack vs blood loss from having their limbs chopped off. they might not tell us but the people that could know do know. its just the whole repercussions from admitting the truth that might prevent them from being honest.
If you have to ask, then the answer is no. In other words, when you’re fucked, you’ll know, unless you’re too doped up to know or care.
thats the most boomer answer ever
I’d call it a combination between that, a massive influx of new hires to get back to pre pandemic production levels and lowered/deferred maintenance on equipment in order to save money/push product out the door.
the only two areas doing good are wineries and heroin manufacturers, its literally at the point where entry level at either pays better than assistant manager at any retail store or company.
Anarcho-tyranny, isn't it?

Law-abiding citizens effectively frozen out of all policy decisions, denied any influence on government activities, subjected to ever-declining quality of life, all but ignored by law enforcement as crimes are committed against them and even punished severely by the same for defending themselves against overt criminal activity (even direct violence) when conducted by lawbreaking "activists" who are never punished (or even stopped) so long as they're shouting government-approved slogans, beating up the right people and vandalizing and looting the right businesses.

Sounds about right.
to be fair if we're being honest thats the status quo of the US, especially for certain groups, for fucks sake the mafia's control in this country proved it, if not that then the dozens of other special interest groups, like abolitionists that treated slaves with the same hard on european pro-immigration people have today, except even more blatantly open about sacrificing people for their cause.

then there is the small scale stuff, no white has ever been able to use a government program put in place in any metropolitan area of this country, meanwhile blacks know they know someone in their social circles that will help them out. why do you think their welfare gets extended constantly vs what the letter of the law says

for fucks sake just the amount of parents that supported politicans and causes that allowed inner city youths to play basketball until last call at the bars while forcing their own kids to not leave their own room after sundown is insane. and that sounds like a nitpik but it truely shows that the golden rule doesn't rule over people in the US, anarcho-tyranny does
because if any of these retarded boomers believed they were good parents they wouldn't support politicans that openly pass laws that would give a finger to their own familial policies.

its like public school, white kids go and study hard and pay for college and get good grades, but if you decide to say "ill just go to community college instead of an out of state school" then the tyranny of the term paper is replaced by the hoodrat anarchy of being a teen, all you can eat free lunch, gigabit internet, the state won't even allow the teachers to fail you if you show up at least half the time, for fucks sake you can shoot guns in school and not spend a day in jail. meanwhile whites have every counselor on their ass if they are a bit off compared to how baby boomers felt about life at your age.
This called Demand Destruction. Everyone is going to get lessons on esoteric economic terms for events during a collapsing economy. I know I am. Not really sure how we will get out of it unless the politicians decide to stop punishing the people who live in America for breathing air or another country decides to export their economy to ours for “credit”.
like my above examples, a lot of the "american dream" is built on scams, as we saw in san fran or loudon recently if people wise up to how fucked the system is they might be able to group together or cheat their way through it.

a 7th generation american will be able to see through the bullshit and lies easier than a 1st gen. the same way someone working at a company 30 years will be able to spot the BS better than someone that just joined, and will be able to point out how much things suck now vs when they started.

by every metric you are always better off as a politician replacing your voters for this exact reason.
I keep hearing complaints of an inability to get workers at businesses.

Fucking WHY? Is it just that stupid antiwork subreddit putting worms in people's brains?
After eleventy years of pandemic lockdowns you'd think a lot of folks would want a job just to have something to do.
businesses don't want to pay, roughly since covid i tracked job offers on indeed in my area, but only for jobs offering 25% than minimum wage, which shouldn't be an extreme outlier especially when COL has been double digits for awhile now.

guess what, almost no one is offering shit. there was one month where all the seasonal shit appeared, but that was april/may and outside of that most of what i've seen this year is the rare executive job requiring 10+ years or an extremely in demand job like trucker or nurse or local high skill specialization but overall apparently most jobs in a major metro area won't even offer 25% more than minimum wage, which is how businesses can have a labor shortage.
See, here's the thing. In order to import an H1B serf, you have to "try and fail to fill the position," or somesuch.

and with the way inflation is going every indian will be stocking shelves at walmart and flipping burgers at mcdowells in a few years, like coming to america! so its either $59k for someone that knows us businesses are greedy or $60k for some immigrant that praises you to your face but is rude behind your back and doesn't speak english. i wonder what businesses will chose.

That's easy. The Indian. You see, tech companies have an agreement not to hire other company's H1Bs. So when I call them a serf, I mean it. They are stuck at that company until the immigration shit finishes, which can take 10+ years. Meanwhile the company can treat them like garbage, never give them a raise, no benefits, work them like a dog, etc. If they object, they're fired, and need to find another job to continue the H1B process or they're sent back home. And there's an unspoken agreement not to hire them.

And they won't pay $59k for an American and $60k for an Indian. They'll pay $35k for the Indian.

"We can't find workers" is basically a manufactured narrative to justify the continued migration of cheap labor to the developed western world.
yes and no. the immigration is mainly necessary to keep the social security pyramid scheme going - western governments need a large support base that funnels money into the coffers so there's more going in than gets taken out. it's the MUH GROWTH meme on a national, if not global scale.
it's the same reason they're wailing about "demographic change" (as in population aging out, turning the pyramid on it's head; not voters). change like that is inevitable and common since there are a lot of factors playing into it, however most western systems rely on that never changing - or at least only in one direction, and never prepared for a possible change in the first place (saving money preparing for bad times, what?!). once it does being a politician becomes a lot more precarious.

another reason it doesn't make sense to take immigrants to fill the employee pool is because they're shit workers. either they're economical immigrants on welfare, or even if they work (in the capacity they can, considering most of them are untrained, if they even speak the language, or the rare case their degrees are not accepted) that money gets funneled to relatives abroad. and that's not even considering the amount of illegals who will never work at walmart or anything to begin with. they also don't get hired as H1Bs (that's mainly a tech sector thing, no poojet is coming to america to wageslave retail).

retarded company requirements aren't anything new really, but you need to take a look who's actually complaining about the lack of workers and "specialists": trades are complaining about that for years, or it's jobs no one wants to do (how many people are willing to work as a trash collector for example?). that's a natural side effect if the average wealth goes up, however it's also a self-inflicted issue: for decades people got told if you want to make money you gotta go to college, and that only ramped up over time. it's even worse in the US since there's a whole debt-industry eager to push retards into colleges, but you can see the same effect in countries where education is free or heavily subsidized. being a plumber just isn't very prestigious, gotta get bitches and benjamins! meanwhile they make bank because everybody has a toilet and pays premium to get it fixed ASAP.
even worse it starts way earlier, a lot of the diversity and "no kid left behind" shit exacerbates that even more: all those people who would probably do fine and would become productive tax-payers in trades or other blue collar jobs are instead sitting on useless gender studies degrees, having to work minimum wage to pay their debts (essentially taking the jobs from the untrained parts of the workfore) or take welfare liker the rest of the untrained.

TLDR: everything's fucked since the shit of decades is finally clogging, and will either take years to fix or get to a point everything explodes and sprays everyone in feces.

The Irony of it all is so much of this was driven by Boomer retirement, only to ensure its destruction - Capital markets flooded with life savings in the form of investments, old people demanding massive pensions and social security after having all of one child and raising them to be an incompetent gender studies major, mass immigration in an effort to fix the demographic issues they caused only to drive down the native population even harder.

Its all blowing out, and the very events that were put in motion to try and guarantee a comfortable and rich old age above all other concerns will instead drive them into a hellscape where their investments are worthless, their few children are incapable of competing economically, their society has no interest in the elderly and only cares about foreigners, and everyone is too busy getting their own piece of the dying pie to actually do anything about the myraid problems.

Well, hell. I actually came to post about the Sriracha shortage but apparently got beaten to it. So uh...

Smithfield Foods to Close California Facility, Reduce Hog Production in West -- Commodity Comment

Smithfield Foods Inc. is scaling back its hog operations in the U.S. with plans to close a facility in California and shrink its sow herd in the western region in an effort to tackle what it said are escalating business costs.

On its hog plans:

Smithfield, which is owned by Chinese pork company WH Group Ltd., said it would cease all harvest and processing operations in Vernon, Calif., in early 2023 and align its hog production system by reducing its sow herd in its western region.

The company would decrease its sow herd in Utah and is exploring options to exit its farms in Arizona and California, it said.

Smithfield harvests only company-owned hogs in Vernon, and it said it would serve customers in California with its Farmer John brand and other brands and products from existing facilities in the Midwest.

The steps are being taken due to the rising cost of doing business in California, Smithfield said.

Yadda yadda Chinese don't want to raise hogs here anymore because California passed legislation that the hogs need more space or it's cruel to keep them and so the cost of hog farming now includes completely overhauling your facility.

Some people lost jobs. California's economy declines slightly more. All pretty standard stuff.

I'm gonna be honest watching the world slowly implode in on itself has been pretty depressing and I've lost a lot of my will to post about it.

That article about the tampon shortage was top notch tho. Kudos to the Kiwi that nosed that one out.

I'll say this for the record. I am NOT a prepper. The prepper are people that are mostly fucked up in the head living in the boonies.

I've seen them. I've dealt with them and most of them are fucking nuts and some of them maybe deserve to be put into the ground. Yea I had a very bad time with some of these people and their mentality, so it's a knee jerk feeling when some yahoo proudly states that "He's a Prepper".
Well Fuck them and their fucking mentality. They are a symptom of the problem that is rearing its ugly head.

I am a person following the information given to me by the people and family on how to get ahead.
and in my case... it fucking worked. Which is why I can say the things that I can say and posted the proof of my results.

I have commented a few weeks about you people have 60 days or so before the real shit is going to happen.

Well so far I am correct and on that note... IT'S OKAY TO PREPARE FOR THE FUTURE and not be stigmatize for being called a nut case or a prepper or a defeatist by the fucking woke crowd.

You have to do what you have to do. I'm just stating what I went through 6 decades of life. And right now it is starting to feel like the Hyper Inflation years to me.... when I was homeless.

I've got 3 months of food for 2 right now and have been slowly turning my stock as you are supposed to do. This is my buffer.

I do not think that the world is going to go tits up. But I do believe that it is going to be a lot more expensive to live during and ending of Harvesting Season in the US.

Those are just the facts. You can not deny the facts unless you love CNN and live in a fucking bubble like 81 million people who voted for Biden.

To those assholes... you fucking get everything you deserve. As stated before I give no forgiveness to the ignorant as I deal with so many of them in Silicon Valley Land and other parts of the states I do business with. You are a forgone conclusion of the pain of suffering that YOU CAUSED BY YOUR ACTIONS. So fuck you if you lose everything. And many of those people will. You made war with me during the "Peaceful Protests". You put myself and my wife in harms way. THAT I can never forgive. You will GET what you justly deserve.

The kiwi's here got your head on straight so my comments do not apply on my feelings of the woke.

But again I suggest if you have not already start to start bulking up your pantry. Because as we head to the fall I see inflation continue to be high and has a good chance to go higher.

This man tells it like it is and covers pretty much what I have been saying.

What the man said.

THIS IS BIDENOMICS. This is deliberate. Completely deliberate in all levels of government.
Or why do you think that California has a 100 BILLION DOLLAR SURPLUS RIGHT NOW... IMHO I believe this is going to be use as a buffer for bad things to happen soon.

For the record I have never seen California with such a high amount of surplus... ever... I fully believe they are up to something as I screen a great deal of information from various global sites and make an assessment.

And my most recent assessment is....

I'm going to buy another chest freezer.
