It is a steroid, and people tend to perk up, feel better, less tired, etc. It doesn't hit like anxiety or fight or flight dump, it's more of an "power up" sort of effect. When you abruptly quit it, your adrenals take a bit to return to normal cort production, so you can feel miserable. This leads to a sort of dependence as well. The problem is that too much cort has horrific effects, like weight gain (moon face), heart damage, diabetes risk, etc, so long term Prednisone is a bad idea most of the time. Why would anyone want more cortisol? I don't read this thread a lot and my understanding of cortisol (and adrenaline) in illness is more related to (medical-) anxiety and panic disorders.
It's also prescribed for MANY things: allergies and asthma, skin issues, autoimmune, illness recovery, etc. It would be easy to con your way into with a little doctor shopping, and many of these munchies do so (look for the moon face. Bethany, Victoria, and Ash come to mind).
