That's my understanding with the situation as well. Like, they've looked into it multiple times, even when it's been closed for renovations, and have determined that fixing the yeti would require extensive repairs to the concrete base which is deep in the mountain structure. It's not a "they're too cheap to fix it" issue, they would have to justify dismantling the entire ride and it's structure in order to fix it. Think about how often they've completely dismantled, say, the Matterhorn, in such a way. That's why it hasn't been done.
You'd think their engineers would have forseen the need for eventual maintenance and not made the thing impossible to repair without taking the entire ride apart.

They didn't know the concrete foundation was damaged. That's the thing; they did plan for maintenance and breakdowns, that's why it even has a B-mode (disco mode) for operative purposes. If it was just about anything else, there would be no broken yeti; people would instead applaud it as one of their most complex animatronics. It's not like it's broken just below the surface or whatever; the problem that caused it to break is is deep below the actual animatronic. It's the fucking concrete; they'd have to take it out and repour it all over again. Again, it's not cost or basic maintenance, or another lesser issue. It's the concrete foundation, 40+ feet below the actual animatronic.

From what I heard from someone who was working at corporate when Disco Yeti was switched on, the original mode was causing the soil underneath the attraction to shift which is why the concrete started cracking.

I can believe it because building things on drained swampland in central FL is kind of a crapshoot. Surprised Disney World hasn't just been swallowed by a sinkhole yet.

DisneyWorld isn't ground level, it's around one story up and has the secret tunnels for cast members on the ground floor. If anything, the tunnels would be fucked if that happened.

So...provided Disney World doesn't close due to financial ruin, one of these days we're going to get a breaking news story about dozens to hundreds of employees being crushed to death or buried alive under Disney World?

Well, that's just peachy keen.

I may be wrong, but I believe the Yeti is actually built over solid ground, and in an area where there are no tunnels (or at least on an area that was always backfilled in way over water level). The rumor a few years back was that some dumb fuck under Bob Cheapass in Orlando cut the budget by ordering cheaper bolts and concrete, none of which were properly rated for an animatronic of that size and force, and that's why the whole thing buckled under the weight. It's crazy to think that one of the best themed rides ever built was only fully operational for its first year, and hasn't been working properly since (the fog effects were miscalibrated and haven't run at the top of the coaster in years, the bird gag at the top of the peak breaks constantly, etc).

Disney plus finally launching in Israel and the commercials are just fucking terrible. Why the fuck would you advertise it with all the shitty new content that lost Disney hundreds of millions rather than the stockpile of IP they are sitting on?
Though I wonder if this will force Netflix here to actually step up their game and license shit since it has quite literally 1/100 of the content here than in the USA.

Disney has lost the streaming rights to Indian Premier League cricket. This may seem like it doesn't matter at all but Disney has been using India to pump up subscriber numbers on Disney+. Cricket is a big thing in India. Probably explains why the stock took a dump today.

article from the nyt about it.
Cricket?

Nobody understands cricket. You've got to know what a crumpet is to understand cricket.

it's so sad lilo and stitch was a gem in a really terminal period, same with Hercules. The art style in that film is such a joy and it's actually funny. Lilo and Stitch was a feels trip and now they want to rape even that for revenue.

Walt would be spinning all the way to hell, if he knew the state of the company. Not even about the pride shit but just the artistic bankruptcy and no respect for the work or artists. For Walt, it was a labor of love (and maybe getting one over on the Jews.)

True, I feel that way looking at Frank & Ollie's book or other pre-1980 books on the studio. You can see how slow the erosion happened.

'Lightyear' star Chris Evans calls critics of Disney Pixar's gay kissing scene ‘idiots’

"Lightyear" actor Chris Evans, who plays the titular role in Walt Disney’s new Pixar movie, has responded to critics who say the film’s kissing scene between two female characters pushes a pro-gay agenda. "The real truth is those people are idiots," Evans said during an interview with Reuters Television. "There's always going to be people who are afraid and unaware and trying to hold on to what was before. But those people die off like dinosaurs. I think the goal is to pay them no mind, march forward and embrace the growth that makes us human."

In the film, Evans voices the character Buzz Lightyear, whose story inspires an action figure by the same name in the "Toy Story" franchise. "Every time there’s been social advancement as we wake up, the American story, the human story is one of constant social awakening and growth and that’s what makes us good," Evans added.

The comment comes as some critics of the film have argued the decision to include LGBTQ representation and a scene with a gay married couple kissing in a film marketed to children was intentional. The on-screen kiss takes place between Hawthorne, a female lead voiced by Uzo Aduba, and another female character. It was reportedly removed from the film earlier this year, amid controversy over Disney’s quietness over Florida’s "Don’t Say Gay" bill that barred conversations about LGBTQ identity in K-12 classrooms, Variety reported in March of this year, citing "a source close to the production." The scene, however, was ultimately restored to the film.

It will not be shown in the United Arab Emirates or Malaysia, due to the on-screen gay kiss. The film "is not licensed for public screening in all cinemas in the UAE, due to its violation of the country’s media content standards," the UAE Ministry of Youth and Culture Media Regulatory Office said in a tweet.

"The office confirms that all films screened in cinemas across the country are subject to follow-up and evaluation before the date of screening to the public, to ensure the safety of the circulated content according to the appropriate age classification," the tweet added.

What gay kissing scene? Also it's probably going to be a two second background scene so they can edited out for foreign theaters.

Also if anyone wonders. Chris Evans has a gay brother, so in his deluded head he belives he has to constantly defend gay people when ever someone types faggot.

Honestly I'm pretty sure Disney has a sweaty hydrogeologist making sure they don't accidentally drain the water level beneath them too low. They've somehow figured out how to do it.

Central FL is mostly limestone tunnels beneath the soil and the water creates enough upward hydrostatic pressure to withstand what's built on them. You drain it and then whoops. Sinkhole.

You got to remember, they don’t want to offend any SJWs with such awful rhetoric about a marginalized community, so of course he spouts shit about white people being offended.
