The film is trying to sell the meta idea that it would capture the hearts of young boys in the 90's since it was Andy's fave movie.

Imagine if this thing fucking flops :story:

Isn't Tim getting a new Santa Clause series for D+ with complete creative control? I wouldn't trust Disney as far as I can throw them, but this really does seem like "a different voice for a different tone" more than anything.
Yes, yes he is.

Besides, you know Patrick Warburton was the best Buzz.

This film contains things that would have never been in a 90s film, when Andy was young enough to enjoy it. Andy should clearly be middle-aged and complaining about how this newest reboot has turned Buzz Lightyear woke.
I dunno, Andy always kinda gave off that beta vibe to me. I think if anything Sid would be the one complaining about how a bunch of Hollywood cucks have ruined what used to be a cool character.

In Toy Story 3, I think, we found that Sid grew up and got a job, so I dunno. Maybe he's also bitter and complaining about that on the Internet.

Meta humour has just become a writing device for the untalented to lean onto to give the illusion they have anything to offer the medium.

Not all meta humor is bad, but if all you have to offer is meta humor, you're bad at writing.

A writer’s job in most cases is to create a living world that ceases to be fake in the mind of the reader/viewer/player. I mean think about it. Even if the piece of media constantly breaks the fourth wall like in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy or Monkey Island, the world is still believable. Your suspension of belief kicks in and your mind allows you to meld with the fictional environment as if you were actually there. When a movie like Lightyear makes self-referential humor, it just seems foolish. See @MysticMisty's comments about how the premise makes no sense

The only thing that would have been a big no no was that "queer kiss" (they wouldn't even call it that because back then queer either was slang for gay or an old person's word for weird) and they're be less attention drawn to the fact that buzz's Co is a black woman. It would have been a minor detail that nobody would care about. Well that plus the female characters would look like actual women.
It wasn't just slang for gay, it was a slur. People called things gay as a replacement for stupid and people who acted gay a queer/queers back in the 90s.

Is Pixar going to be okay?

IIRC I think Buzz's black partner has a wife? It's probably just a quick peck on the lips or something. Easy to edit out.
They’re always making the black woman the lesbian. I’ve seen this in Peacemaker and other recent shows and it must be nerve-racking for black Americans. My family just stopped watching Peacemaker after the first episode. They were even commentating on how this scene was there and it got banned in 14 countries, and they were like “Disney needs to stop doing this”. They’re trying too hard. They reacted the same way with Bridgerton.

It seems like the Middle East and other places have already given up showing anything Disney-related to just edit the undesirable scenes out. It used to be just censoring out the unacceptable parts like in Rise of Skywalker, but now with Doctor Strange 2 and Lightyear, they just are not showing the movie.

They grew up into a couple of guys who didn't become total betas. High teir Normies at best.

Let's just say that happened to them and live with it. After all Sid was gainfully employed in toy story 3 and Andy went off to college in 2010...just before they became the ground zero of woke culture.

Now Sid's the supervisor of the tri county waste management company and Andy's a successful architect living upstate with a wife and kid of his own now. The spitting image of dear old dad.

Saw Lightyear today, It had to be the most mediocre Pixar movie ever made. I would have rather seen Toy Story or Wall-E again. It's pretty much a long meh episode of Love, Death and Robots that's about all I can say about it.
