I don't know how it is with a gastric sleeve, such as Wings has
So I can speak on this one, as I’m almost 3 years post-op the sleeve procedure.
The fact that he was able to consume such large portions so soon after surgery is far more insane than I think non-WLS patients realize. He’s lucky he didn’t cause serious harm or straight up die.
The nerves don’t fully heal for several months, so it’s possible to stretch your sleeve and not realize it, especially when shoveling in “soft foods” such as Wendy’s chili. This is why surgeons will urge you to progress to solids as safely, yet quickly, as tolerable. Had Wings followed post-op diet instructions correctly, he would almost certainly have felt some restriction kick in as he got full. He also drank while eating, which is a no-no as it helps food pass through the sleeve quicker. Wendy’s chili for every meal, for months on end was one of the worst decisions he could have made. By the time the sleeve was truly healed, it was probably at least 25% already fucked.
To this day, I too can’t finish a burger in one sitting. I can maybe do a McD’s cheeseburger in 30 minutes, but it wouldn’t be very comfortable. Plus, that’s just a fucking stupid waste of caloric intake for the lack of nutrition.
Something I want to ask, would a large amount of smaller foods such as potato chips or small candies be similarly hard for a post surgery stomach to process as it would larger foods like pizza or big macs
Yes and no. Funny you say chips, as there were a few times I had to stop myself from demolishing chips while high because you can chew them down to mush and pack more in. So it’s not as hard to process in that sense than say, a slice of pizza or something as solid. But yes, eating a very large volume of them would be more difficult on the system than a slice of a medium pizza, if that makes any sense. Food density really comes into play when navigating the post-op diet.
Wings should have had a bypass IMO. And not to shit on Mexico and their surgical programs but, a more competent bariatric surgeon in the US with more experience with certain types of patients and their personal history with weight loss and dieting would have NOT suggested the sleeve for someone like Wings due to his lack of willpower and the ease with which it is to undo that particular procedure.
Sorry for the novel. Hospitalized on some lovely IV opioids so I’ve got the time to sperg a bit.
Big ups to Sean Ranklin.
