"Post your Art" Thread

I was really tired and wanted to draw The World and couldn't do it so

Does anyone here try to do things like quick sketches? I used to do them a lot in figure drawing, but I've been getting rusty as of late. Should do it more :x

about 10-15 minutes per page

I definitely can see why an initial sketch would be useful. It helps build the foundation of the piece and can be done quickly. The lack of detail always lets you quickly edit and add things as you build the final version.

I usually only do the 30-60 second sketches as I have the attention span of a gnat... And haven't been to life drawing in two years and it shows. (:_(

Sometimes I have done those to try to experiment with the pose I want in the drawing or when I'm trying to use something as a reference.

I remember when I took a figure drawing class at an art musuem in town, we'd always have these warmup sessions at the start where we do these type of sketches (one minute each I think).

This is my portrait of the Egyptian goddess Het-heru, or Hathor. She's commonly described as Egypt's resident love and fertility goddess, which would make her their equivalent to the likes of Aphrodite, Oshun, or Freyja. But she's also recognized for her cow motif, and since cows aren't an animal I consider "sexy", I didn't want to make her particularly bovine in appearance. Instead I opted for a "cowgirl" look with a Stetson hat.

As an aside, some historians estimate that as many as one in four cowboys in Texas were African-American back in the Wild West days.

Tyrannosaurus rex takes shelter under an overhanging log during a tropical rainstorm. This scene came to mind during a miserable rainy week when I had come down with a bad case of the flu. It wasn't my most productive week artistically, but at least it provided one inspiration for paleo art.

While binge watching my seasons of Ink Master, I can't help thinking about how the contestants amusingly hiss, scratch and fight like little cats. So I was inspired to draw this set of Ink Kitties and whip out some basic colored pencils. Yes, I was inspired by Surzan's kitty work. And it was something cute and silly to do.

From top left to right...
-Judges: Chris Nunez, Dave Navarro, Oliver Peck
-Al Fliction: (S1) I included the cross that he did that got him off the competition.
-Scott Marshall (S4): He's now in the great canvas in the sky. RIP
-Sebastian Murphy (S2): Being one of the more level-headed ones in that season, I'm sure he felt that way at least once.
-Sarah Miller (S2): No one is as angry-passionate as her. I'm sure she's be pretty much the same in the upcoming season.
-Katie and Matt (S6): I like how this master and apprentice one turned out the most.
-Sausage (S4): Obvious jokes is obvious.
-Josh Hibbard and Jason Clay Dunn (S3 and 5): Arguably, the greatest rivalry in the show.
-Kay Kutta (S2): He's making his puppet dance like he tried to.
-Emily Elegato (S5): I have a feeling that when she was a child, she liked to pull footballs away from round-headed kids.
-Gentle Jay (S4): With his failed attempt at accusations of plagiarism.
-Kyle Dunbar (S3 and 4): I regret not spiking up the fur, but I think the hothead turned out well.
-Mystical Mike (S): Since making his tail look like a musical note failed, I decided to make him blue like the lion he tried to do.
-Tatu Baby (S2 and 3): I think she came out really cute.

Been working on an art project with the theme "opposites". Went with drawing my two characters Wake and Sleep, the mind twins.
image.jpg

Wake is the girl smiling, she represents nightmares. Sleep is the boy, representing sweet dreams. Wake has complete control over the core subconscious in their story and tortures the mind through nightmares for seemingly no reason, and it's Sleep's job to find and stop her before the host kills himself.

....I am a horror artist/writer.

Update: It's been completed! (Or rather, as complete as it'll get before its unpresentable. Messed up Sleep's antler to not make him a mirror image of Wake... /sighs) It'll be presented to my class for critique either tomorrow or Monday.
