Tanking was never really that interesting in dungeons, at least from an aggro perspective. It was mostly the same as it is now, just with mandatory single-target fillers due to AoE not being free and having to stance dance every so often to retake aggro. And even that's overselling it - there used to be a role action that was essentially an AoE provoke that was up for nearly every pull.Honestly I find tanking in FF14 boring outside of Extreme content. Especially for regular dungeons. Just turn on tank stance and spin around. From what a friend told me, Tanking use to be more interesting before they reworked how aggro worked. But in his words "Shitters complained that they couldn't keep aggro due to their incompetence".
The change to aggro was, broadly speaking, a good thing. But they didn't really give tanks additional stuff to do to make up for taking aggro management away. Stuns and interrupts could have been introduced as mandatory tank mechs in dungeons but they're scared of making normal mode content require any of that.
