I sometimes wonder about your point on the single cult leader from the traditional model is if it's not partially because they're not being organized in person but across stuff like social media and also if because many of the members seem to believe themselves to be one of the leaders no matter how actually irrelevant they are. No one who adheres to the cults is going to be told they aren't essential if they're having doubts. How much of their propaganda is devoted to things like "being trans and just existing" being "strong" for the movement or things like that crazy woman I posted cutting off her family and telling others to also do so being "doing the work" for anti-racism.

I think there might be also some cultural aspects to this, in our modern secular society it'd very hard to convince these people (especially the left-atheist type) to sacrifice their lives for another person purporting to be the god or the only one who can speak to the gods rather than the cause. Even someone who hits mass popularity like Obama or Hillary (or Trump) has to suggest they're just another cog in a movement greater than themselves and their own goals. This also empowers each member of the movement to hold any other "accountable" to the cause or ideology even if in practice you're not actually allowed to do this to the elite on equal terms.

Though I do think that methods and behavior are usually better indications of a cult than the actual beliefs or ideology which makes the "single cult leader" aspect less important.

I long ago came to terms with the fact that most films, novels, etc. that I like were more often than not made by genuinely awful people.

Damn straight! Life would be really dull if we limited ourselves to content we agree with. It also reminds me why I resent the notion that everything needs to be political. Like hell it does!

I used to like the guitar riffs in RATM songs but then Tom Morello sold out by supporting the "centrist" and "fascist-adjacent" Democratic Party rather than continuing to advocate for immediate international revolution and it just makes me vomit at how ignorant I was at how insidious fascism is. I can't believe I pirated and enjoyed some of that music, capitalism is literally Hell on Earth. (:_(

Another fucked up thing from leftoids is how they are willing (sometimes even look forward to it) to have a stranged or even be completely alien from their family over some weirdo political disagreement on something that doesn't matter. I know they operate on a cult mentality basis but something should kick in that tells them that maybe cutting off your family over something so small like that is stupid. And even more on behalf of strangers that probably hate your guts.

That bothers me too. To be fair to leftists, they're not the only ones who do that. However, currently they are the most prominent ones doing it in modern America. I haven't had family disown me over politics, but I have had friends do it.
