Better Call Saul

Just caught up on the new episodes. I love how skeezy Jimmy becomes without Kim. Also obligatory, Kim is great this entire season, so far. I love her speech about how they make each other worse.
She was right about herself but not about Jimmy. With her, he was the kind of man who would put his life on the line to save her. Without her, he's pretty much a piece of shit at this point.

Such a wonderful time jump to him. He really just has nothing. The realization that the Saul we saw in Breaking Bad, that was it. There was really nothing else behind the scenes because he suppressed and pushed back all the bad memories so much and let his shallow cartoonish Saul persona take over.

An interesting part I noticed about his acting in the heartbreaking terminal scene with Kim was that he reverted back to his over-the-top acting style from Mr. Show, except (from Jimmy) it was completely sincere and desperate. We've been looking for the scene where Jimmy died for good and Saul took over and that was it.

Jimmy had no more reason to exist at that point and left behind an empty shell.

I think the time jump is at least 4 years. I believe this season starts in 2004. Breaking Bad starts in 2008 IIRC. But Saul wasn't introduced until 2nd season. So time jump maybe be later, especially if Walt and Jesse are in the next episode.
Breaking Bad starts in 2006.

"Yo, Mister White, that nigga Gus is gonna finna dust our ass if we don't get him that bread fr fr, no cap bruh"

Or it raises the interesting possibility that he's subconsciously (or not) doing it to prove her wrong.

I had the same thought. Remember what he said to Miss Esposito, the shoplifting high schooler that HHM rejected for their scholarship program? "They hate you? You hate them more!" Kim says she (and he) are worse when they're together and rejects him? "Oh yeah? I'm worse without you!" is what I see in the post-breakup scenes.

Is it me, or doesn't it feel like the last episode feel like it should have been the season finale, leading us into the last season?

Everything gets wrapped up, Kim yeets out of the show, surprise time jump to the BB timeline, come and join us next year to see the resolution of Saul's story!

Except that they realized that they didn't have enough material for a full season, even a mini 6 episode season, so they decided to just tack it on at the end of this one?

It would explain why so many earlier episodes felt like there was filler to pad the front end.

Very much enjoyed the last episode and at the same time I understand the complaints. This season feels more like a wrap-up than a true finale. They have to hit all the points and everything has to tie into a cute knot before entering BB and capping off Gene. The execution of that from an acting, directing, and dialogue writing perspective has been great and perhaps that is shielding the faults of the overall narrative.

The only thing I didn't like from the episode was the gay Gus scene. Not that I care if he's a fag, it just seems unnecessary and I like the element of mystery around him. If they're gonna go there I hope we atleast get a glimpse of his background in the old country.

I hate the half-season thing AMC does. They could've easily split it into two full season with some more court subplots and Mike stuff or just cut out filler and done one. Breaking the season in half forces them to do both at once and fucks up the pacing.

I would have hated that scene a whole lot less if there wasn't four fucking episodes left.

Really, you have so little story to tell that we can afford to spend all of that time looking at Gus deciding whether he's gonna bang a dude or not?

Yup, couldn't agree more.

I think AMC had to break up the season because Bob Odenkirk had a heart attack while filming. I heard it was the episode before the last one is when it happened.
No it was always going to be that way, like how they split the last series of Breaking Bad.

Bob Odenkirk had his heart attack during the filming of Point and Shoot if I remember rightly.

I didn't know they split the final season of Breaking Bad. I didn't watch it until the whole thing was on Netflix.

Was it only like a Month like Better Call Saul, or was it like a year like Sopranos on HBO with the split?

A good 18 months.

I remember as I binged the first four and a half seasons just as it was wrapping up. God that wait was Hell.

Bob recently corrected that. With odd symbolism, it occurred literally during the scene with Lalo, where Jimmy was trying to save Kim's life. Then Rhea Seehorn literally saved Bob's life in reality. They didn't go right back to shooting the Lalo scene.

It's actually sort of. . .heartwarming. Sorry, don't have another word.
