The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

RE4 didn't have tank controls. It was the first over-the-shoulder RE4 game. Were you thinking of another one?
You’re talking about a camera angle, I’m talking about a control scheme. You can’t move while shooting in RE4 and you need to rotate to move in a different direction. That’s tank controls.

So for example you have camera angles. Fixed and over the shoulder. Then there’s control schemes. Tank or free movement. Both fixed and over the shoulder games can have either tank controls or free movement.

I mean… technically, tank controls would be something like Battlezone or Katamari Damacy, where two joysticks are used in tandem to control movement. That we started to use it it apply to the old fixed-camera RE games made no sense, but I accepted it. But now you've come along and gave it a whole new definition entirely. I give up.

It's €80 in europe what the fuck, who the fuck is paying this? It's the same game that's available for €5 with slightly different graphics that are arguably worse in places
The only people I can imagine actually buying this full price are:
  • idiots with enough money to not feel an €80 dent in their wallets, who also don't realize the PS4 version still works fine on their PS5
  • wannabe youtubers looking to buy it day one and churn out a video ASAP to ride the hype
  • sony simps with FOMO buying it so they can be a part of the consoomer crowd who cares more about the crowd than the game
This screams "pack-in fare" to me, which is ironic because TLOU1 was a pack-in with the PS4 seven years ago, and also a pack-in with the PS3 at one point. Also like, it seems like it's designed to eventually be a freebie on Plus or maybe bundled with another game, whatever they can do to get it to you for free so they can say "Look, we're giving you an €80 game for FREE! What a BARGAIN!!!!!".

It's just one of those terms that doesn't match up perfectly to real life, but he's right. Tank controls are when holding up makes your character move forward in the direction they're facing, down makes them walk backwards, and left & right rotate them. I guess cars IRL have video game tank controls, while Katamari Damacy literally controls like a tank?

When I think about tank controls, I always think of Grim Fandango, since they were handy to help you point Manny exactly where you needed him.

My guess is that they will release it for "free" to either the PS+ extra or premium tiers subscribers as a way to bolster subscription sales during the holiday season if those PS+ tiers are still struggling for sales by that time. If you pay attention to the gray market reseller sites you can typically get a year of xbox game pass ultimate for $45-55 depending on how much of a sale the codes are on, meanwhile sony wants $120 a year for their PS+ premium tier, and since you can't buy any prepaid premium tier codes on any reseller sites yet, you are forced to pay what sony sets if you are already a subscriber to extra/premium.

You can get a year of PS+ essentials for around $40-45 on sale typically, and I believe it costs an additional $60 if you upgrade that one year essential subscription to premium which means you end up paying a total of $100-105 instead of $120. I believe that the upgrade fee to premium caps out at $150 if you have multiple years of PS+ essential stacked, but even with that $150 cap you are still easily spending something like $70 per year even if you stack up five years at once on sale. I would assume that currently more people are subscribed to xbox's game pass than PS+ and I'm sure sony could use the boost in subscription numbers for the extra/premium tiers.

I personally don't believe in this concept as I see it nothing much than a glorified rental system at best, and a "disney vault" situation at worst in which you can only play games on the extra/premium tiers if sony or the publisher deems it alright for the game to still appear as playable. However you have people like DSP that will simply shill these services because in their mind they view these services as a great value since they will pick up the game, play through it once, and promptly forget about it to get ready for the new hype product that they must consoom, therefore just continuing the cycle in which they continue to pay these companies for services that are ultimately giving you nothing tangible at the end of the day.

TL;DR: Consoomers are to blame for this just as much as shitty management over at ND including druckmann is for this shameful excuse of a remaster. As long as they are willing to pre-order in droves, buy a brand-new copy during the release month, and pay for these game subscription services, the game studios that have lost their way over the years (Naughty Dog, Rockstar, Blizzard) will continue to pump out this kind of trash.

How does Cuckmann always inspire people to leak his shitty game? Please tell me he underpaid the QA team again.
I'm not convinced it isn't a marketing tactic. A lot of studios have started to realize that 'leaks' can be fantastic free advertising. They cost essentially nothing to produce, people are more likely to talk about them- and unlike gameplay trailers or screenshots- people are more likely to take them at face value and not assume they've been touched up or modified.
Also, most teams, if their product was leaked, would simply not talk about the leak in order to keep others from looking for it. Every time this happens to Naughty Dog however, they come out of the fucking woodwork to point at it and bawl. Either they are massively stupid (plausible) or they actually want to drum up conversation about it.

In my opinion, it's pretty damn anti-consumer to delete all these leaks that show people they'll be wasting their hard-earned $70. Don't let these shitty game publishers get away with this kind of thing. Spread it everywhere and for god's sake please don't buy it anyways because you're bored or something.

Nah, absolutely not in the case of ND. In some cases where there is little hype like some Ubisoft title they probably do leak information to generate hype, and the leak is trying to make the game look good. In the case of ND the situation has been the opposite for TLOU2 and now the demake. There was immense amounts of hype for part 2, in large part driven by the intentionally misleading trailer. So when the truth came out, when the dogshit story leaked Sony and ND tried anything they could to ban all footage from as many places as possible. Not what you'd do in the case of trying to "generate hype for marketing." Paid any attention to the title of this thread? No Sony was not trying to use pretty much Kiwifarms exclusively to hype up part 2 by revealing how shit the story actually was pre-release and how deceptive their marketing was. And damn near everyone who saw the leaks hated what they saw. It made a non-trivial effect of dampening the only good sales part 2 ever had, launch day hype from lying trailers and part 1.

Similarly, and amusingly as ND fanboys are incapable of learning, ND shocking lied twice in a row, promising TLOU2 gameplay mechanics and huge changes to remaster part 1 from the ground up. Instead in truth its a retexture and the already existing remake offers a similar and better experience due to including Multiplayer and not having uncanny valley faces. Once again when this lie was revealed the hype lowered and people who damn well should have known better by now but alas try to cancel their pre-orders or choose not to buy the game.

In no way did either leak increase the hype, quite the opposite. Someone, or likely damn near everyone remaining at ND hate Cuckmann and try to reveal his lies pre releasing games.

It looks like parts of TLOU1 have been leaked, including the scene with Sarah:

And here's a few photos of TLOU1, and a comparison below:

The TLOU1 Tommy scene looks like it's meme potential, but in a forced and unfunny way. And everything as a whole looks like either a sidegrade, or a downgrade.
Just as expected, these "people" do not create nor improve anything ever

leaks are like game demos, they can generate hype and boost sales - if the game is actually good (or gets meme'd enough).
but it doesn't work at all and has the opposite effect if the game is crap or just reinforces what people already think about it.

sure, you might get some contrarian sales (which most likely would've bought it anyway), but the big mass of normies who only buy the game based on NAME and REPUTATION will stay away if that name is suddenly associated with being shit. they don't even have to see it themselves, they just need to hear their peeps or the internet at large talk about it.

Not what you'd do in the case of trying to "generate hype for marketing."
to be fair that's what a lot of companies do these days tho, especially hollywood. just look at the shitshow with kenobi, just to get the word about it out, good or bad.

This is why I don't think ND leaks are viral marketing. Most of their leaks since TLoU2 have been explosively bad PR.

I think you're overestimating the rationality of the average consumer- particaurly those in the gaming industry. Anyone actually going out of their way to discuss games and leaks like we're doing here is probably less than 15% of the consumer base. People who are dumb enough to pre-order anything ever are never smart enough to cancel their pre-orders, and likely aren't even going out of their way to see anything that would motivate them to.

Getting people to talk about your product is often times more important than maintaining a broadly-positive image of it because people will buy in simply because they want to be part of the conversation. I don't necessarily think the leaks increased the hype so much as they kept people talking about the game in the lead-up to release- and sometimes even after, as people will want to confirm if what they heard from the leaks is still true. People were talking about Joel getting club'd for ages before and after the release of 2 because of the leaks, and precisely because of how angry it made people.

Take-downs and other action against leaks is important to keep people talking about them as well. It gives them a 'value' they wouldn't otherwise have and making people actively have to look for them versus seeing them clog up their twitter feed makes it stick in their heads.
It's entirely possibly ND are just consistently incompetent but it happens so often that I can't help but feel otherwise.

The ps4 remaster is still perfectly serviceable. Though as mentioned above, I totally could see ND pulling it from the storefront with how assblasted they get.

Honestly, it's probably the best way to experience the original at this point. Play it as a stand alone. Pretend Part 2 didn't happen and this ps5 "remake" is just trying to retcon "this was always here" bullshit from part 2.

Ignore it.

Sony should just close naughty dog. What a bunch of self important retards
No way man. At this point Naughty Dog is basically the lolcow of the gaming industry. Their true value is not in playing their games, rather in making fun of their games. Plus without ND containing him Drunkman is just going to weasel his way into another company and ruin that one as well.
