The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

"Wasn't built this way originally."

You. Dense. Motherfucker. A remake can be used to restructure combat encounters & level design to accommodate mechanics from a sequel and better hardware. How blind do you have to be to not know that in light of the many remakes that do that sort of thing, and some for prices lower than the original versions?

God, I hope this "remake" bombs just for how arrogant Naughty Dog & Sony are to charge $70 for a glorified remaster.
The best remakes are one that add stuff that was either cut from the original (Halo CE on MCC), small additions of content that fit perfectly (REmake) or is just an obvious improvement in terms of janky mechanics being polished. Being able to crawl would barely even impact TLOU1 as far as I can see. It's only really used in TLOU2 as a way to crawl under cars and hide that way. Which isn't really any different than the lame tall grass every "stealth" game has had for the last 10 years. Just make it so you can crawl under cars, that's pretty much it. They're just being lazy as far as I can tell. I doubt they're going to add any cut content unless it's going to be "cut content" that shows that Senator Abbystrong was totally supposed to be there from the beginning and wasn't a lazy retcon at all.

Another redditor going on the defense in /r/thelastofus (A)

The mods must be asleep because the vast majority of people in the comments weren't having it.

What does TLOU Super Spechial PS5/PC edition give us? DIFFERENT CHARACTER MODELS!!!
Let me explain to Neil and Sony fanboys of why this is a ripoff. Actually, I'll SHOW IT.

Say I sell you a poster of Lauren Bacall:

$60.

Then, I take a similar photo with the same framework but slightly improve the lighting, contrast and changed her facial expression. Okay, I add some stuff in the background too and increase the resolution. Eight years after the original.

Then I charge you $70 as it's "different, but the same" or whatever Druckmann said.

You'd feel ripped off, especially if the original was fine as is.

I hate how some of the fanboys try to jusitfy the remake not adding elements from the 2nd game by saying "they would have to change the entire design" despite the damn thing being worked on for 2 years and my personal favorite "there's no dodge and prone cause joel is too old" that annoys me because they're acting like Joel is a senior citizen and not a mid 40 year old that can take down an army of guys half his junior and outrun a hoard of infected effortlessly. But abby's out of place physique? We should accept that blindly cause it's a game despite their hard on for realism.

Speaking of part 2, it's interesting there's people looking back at the 2nd game and started appreciating the combat after the leaks broke out showing ND lied about having new gameplay features.

They better not be surprised if it doesn't sell to their expectations.

It's especially a lame excuse when a lot of remakes took advantage of better hardware, added gameplay mechanics from a sequel, and redesigned levels to change things for the better (mostly). The Last of Us was built around the constraints of the PS3 (a console with much less RAM than the Xbox 360, mind you), how could there be nothing to improve beyond graphics with a console as capable as the PS5?

The remasters of the Halo & Gears of War games are pretty much the same as this "remake", but they had the decency to only be $40.

I thought it was cancelled because of "low" reviews
It sold about the same as ghost of sushi, but ghost of sushi was 10bait. Sony seems to only want exclusives that bait 10's from metacritic
It didn't sell great either. The dev went on a podcast and bitched that if you want a sequel to games you like you should buy them full price and not when they're 20 dollars.

My advice is to make a game actually worth full price. Days Gone was a 15 dollar purchase at best, that game fucking blows.
Naughty Dog and Guerilla wanted almost every other team at sony to be support teams making their games for them because their own staff kept leaving. That why all the japanese developers left too, they wanted to make their own games not just be a support studio.
Don't forget that Naughty Dog had to bring in people who did special effects for movies and animated films because all their in-house talent kept bailing partway through development. There's clearly some massive issues going on at ND and Druckmann seems to be thr source for all of it, they never had as many issues keeping staff when Hennig and that other guy were leading projects. They'll never axe him though because his tiny hat instincts knew that he could entrench himself permanently if he got rid of the other two first.
I really dont think we were meant to see what happened after it.
I distinctly remember them saying that a sequel would involve entirely new characters after the first game came out. Guess they walked that back for money or political reasons. I personally get the feeling Druck felt compelled to make the sequel when a not so small group of the player base decided Joel really didn't do anything wrong.

The combat is genuinely fun. Shame it only makes up about 3 hours of a 20 hour collection of misery porn and mopey lesbians.

Pfft, what is this list?

BioShock Infinite is like LOU2 in the sense both game "directors" wanted to make a movie with "deep themes" (surface level college tier trash) but were forced to put in gameplay because of those pesky customers.

Also both games had their puzzles set to journalist difficulty by default.

Remember when this was hailed as the Citizen Kane of gaming? Even Doge Walker made a video about it.

And now Ken Levine spends his time trying to craft the perfect game that will never be made.

'The Next Video Game From BioShock’s Creator Is in Development Hell'

Take not, Druckman.

Another leak, This time showing Henry and Sam's last scene.

The scene compared to the original:

Joel in the remake has a fucking gun on him and he doesn't use it :story:
