Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - pip pip cheerio cor blimey

The tutorials in this game are fucking terrible. It's not just that they force you to do actions to make sure you get it, they make you do it PER CHARACTER rather than once. And for some reason the equipment tutorial is done twice.

I'm having fun so far (reached chapter 3) although there are a few issues I have with the game:
-The tutorial parts are forcing my hand a bit too much
-I have to pick a side for brawls in the wild areas, even when it's between monsters, instead of charging in and take advantage of the chaos to eliminate them all
-Gemcrafting seems to be dumbed down compared to Xeno 1. Back then, there were a lot of mechanics to take account between the random qualities of ether crystals, the heat process and using two character from the party designated in specific crafting roles (which led to various effects). Now in Xeno 3, it's just collecting materials and crafting a gem with a pre-fixed effect among twenty of those gems. I can select a level for a gem, up to 10, before crafting but that only gives the same effect with a better bonus. Each character can only equip one gem at the start of the game, up to three once they're leveled up enough.

I'm playing on Normal but it seems the bonus experience makes me a bit overpowered than I should be, and I dunno if Hard is gonna be a bulletsponge-fest.

I've been playing on Hard. The combat pacing reminds of 2 before you learn the combat + cancelling arts. I've had to mess with skills and pray for Eunie's healing field to get through some fights.

My main issue with brawls is that there is never a reason not to pick the side that won't give you Noppon coins.
And in gem crafting I'd probably need a guide for some of the materials.

I blame XB2's reception, Monolith feels like they're overcorrecting for why people quit 2 which is why the start is so fucking slow and dragged out (it almost feels slower then 2's start somehow). Because holy fuck being stuck as Noah was awful, especially when I took off his back attack art for safety while fighting elites in HM in chapter 1 without being stupidly overleveled. The game actually felt pretty good when I got to play Mio's class.

This feels like the slow combat will be a problem until you get at least 2 master art slots on the keves classes, their arts are strong but they take a year to come back while Agnus arts are quite quick to come back as I had an almost perfect loop with Mio's class. So with 3 Keves + 3 Agnus arts I can see a lot of potential here.

Tbh the tutorials are annoying but you can turn them off.

I'm actually paying attention to them because there's a lot more on the screen now. I kinda blasted thru X2's and the gameplay was more complicated in that.

Playing on Hard, have found it to be really engaging and have not had to grind really. It has forced me to engage with the game on its terms and play around with arts, gems and accessories. About the same place as you.

Have to say I have been enjoying it a lot.

I've gotten to chapter 3 playing on hard on the boss fights and any elites/NMs I come across for the most part, it is a little rough at the start because you have so few options to really tweak anything and the AI is just rock stupid (especially healers) but at least you can actually switch to them to correct things. But I just did the chapter 2 boss gauntlet and that was a lot of fun on hard as I was sweating a little bit trying to actually use all the game's mechanics to win as I was at level with most things and these bosses can blast your tanks into oblivion.

Pro tip for switching if people are lost on how it works, it always goes Noah > Mio > Eunie > Taion > Lanz > Sena in a 1-6 kind of order, so if you can memorize the order you can easily figure out where everyone is. So in the Ch2 boss gauntlet Noah and Sena were my tanks at 1 and 6 so they're next to each other, Eunie and Taion are also right next to each other as my healers which made changing to them easy. You don't really need to manage dps unless you really want to min max as the dps usually are in a fine enough position.

Also chain attacks are fucking wild in this game, not only for how strong they can be but with how much is going on in them. It is like they took 1's chain attacks and decided that they were too boring so they added about three different mechanics to them.

This intro scene in Chapter 4 was a real pleasure to watch for the mecha fan I am

Vortex is OP as shit on Chains holy shit. Especially on the second or third round after you hit a Lanz Chain, holy balls.

Yeah I had Vortex as on my fusion art button during the Ch2 boss gauntlet at the end and it felt pretty good, I just hate how small the ranges of healing skills are in this stage of the game because it is so easy to miss your tank unless you're on top of them.

Does the Lanz chain buff the heal? I thought it used your healing power stat and not your attack stat, or do attack buffs increase healing potency too?

I believe Vortex uses your attack stat too because it is classified as an attack instead of something like Group Heal

Any tips for the Mobieus in the sword and shield guy’s sidequest? I’m having issues.

So the general consensus is that this is an enjoyable addition? I've yet to pick it up, but XB2 has been one of my most played games in the last 10 years.

I'm trying to hide myself from reading too much because I'm afraid of seeing spoilers.

Very much so. It runs miles better than 2. The cast is likable, although it took me a bit to get used to Sena. IMO the game does a good job at getting you to work through all of it systems.

Story wise I like it so far, midway through chapter 3. It's interesting and most plot threads are interesting so far. I'd say it is def a must play.

It has an even slower start then 2 gameplay wise imo (blade combos really held my attention early) because the Keves/XB1 style classes are slow as fucking balls without the master art system to gain Agnus/XB2 style arts to help liven them up but depending on how fast you play through the story that is only about 3 or so hours (took me about 4 because I ran around a lot). The Nia like class is super fun though imo, it flows so well even early on with its three initial arts and gaining master arts just makes it better by far my most favorite class to play so far out of the 8 I have right now.

Plot wise, it is a better hook at the start although the characters are a little, I don't want to say dull, but they aren't as colorful out of the gate and can feel a little muted and potentially boring by themselves at times. They really do feel like indoctrinared child soldiers, besides maybe Sena who's a little too peppy, that's for sure but they are ramping up to something interesting I'd say. I actually like Lanz though because's he's like Reyn with his "I know I'm the muscle so I'll be the best muscle for the group.", but with what feels like a notable character motivation because of an early event in the plot. Noah is okay so far, he's not as dumb as Rex felt, he's a little like Shulk where he feels a little plain in a good way albeit more somber sounding due to his circumstances.

I like the plot well enough so far, faster start then 2 in that department where it only takes maybe 10 hours for things to start ramping up notably after the initial hook instead of about 15-20 that 2 felt like it did. Nothing in 3 really feels like filler like 2's start did with most of chapter 4 and a good part of chapters 2 and 3.

I'd say combat wise past the initial start this is more like 2 (without blade combos obv), but with way more interesting chain attacks (by far the most intricate chain attacks in the series, and no gacha autism. Class grinding doesn't feel painful if you want to do it once you get chain attacks to get EXP boosts against NMs, especially if you just use normal mode to make fights go faster. The only 'problem' is it really feels like you need certain classes early on because your options for Break/Topple/etc is super limited.

You and I share a roughly similar opinion of 2 it seems and I'm enjoying 3 quite well so far, so take that how you want.

Haven't gotten to him yet, I just got the healer robot guy with the gun.
