Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - pip pip cheerio cor blimey

It has an even slower start then 2 gameplay wise imo (blade combos really held my attention early) because the Keves/XB1 style classes are slow as fucking balls without the master art system to gain Agnus/XB2 style arts to help liven them up but depending on how fast you play through the story that is only about 3 or so hours (took me about 4 because I ran around a lot). The Nia like class is super fun though imo, it flows so well even early on with its three initial arts and gaining master arts just makes it better by far my most favorite class to play so far out of the 8 I have right now.

Plot wise, it is a better hook at the start although the characters are a little, I don't want to say dull, but they aren't as colorful out of the gate and can feel a little muted and potentially boring by themselves at times. They really do feel like indoctrinared child soldiers, besides maybe Sena who's a little too peppy, that's for sure but they are ramping up to something interesting I'd say. I actually like Lanz though because's he's like Reyn with his "I know I'm the muscle so I'll be the best muscle for the group.", but with what feels like a notable character motivation because of an early event in the plot. Noah is okay so far, he's not as dumb as Rex felt, he's a little like Shulk where he feels a little plain in a good way albeit more somber sounding due to his circumstances.

I like the plot well enough so far, faster start then 2 in that department where it only takes maybe 10 hours for things to start ramping up notably after the initial hook instead of about 15-20 that 2 felt like it did. Nothing in 3 really feels like filler like 2's start did with most of chapter 4 and a good part of chapters 2 and 3.

I'd say combat wise past the initial start this is more like 2 (without blade combos obv), but with way more interesting chain attacks (by far the most intricate chain attacks in the series, and no gacha autism. Class grinding doesn't feel painful if you want to do it once you get chain attacks to get EXP boosts against NMs, especially if you just use normal mode to make fights go faster. The only 'problem' is it really feels like you need certain classes early on because your options for Break/Topple/etc is super limited.

You and I share a roughly similar opinion of 2 it seems and I'm enjoying 3 quite well so far, so take that how you want.

Haven't gotten to him yet, I just got the healer robot guy with the gun.
I managed toget him down a few hours ago, and the mechanic guy and his seem to just vomit out HP compared to the other healers. I can see myself relying on that.

Also, the right stick on my pro controller is starting to go wonky after 5 years. :'(Shame, though I did spill a bit of a daiquiri into the face buttons about a year back. Thing served me very well for a long time. Don’t get martini glasses.

Beat the game this weakend but not going to spoil anything but I will say this keep an eye out for a photograph (its an instant backstory to a XBC3 character) a blink and you will miss it thing and quite important so I am warning you now so not to be distracted by the other major thing going on in that scene. The funniest shit I have seen in a game all year. Just pay attention to the right side of the photo. 10/10 just for that. I want what ever the fuck Monolith is smoking.

Multiple people have made reference to it already.

I might gotten to that part now and might have missed it holy shit.

This is actually my first xenoblade chronicles game and I'm really enjoying it! I really like the chain battle mechanic, it feels like a puzzle that's built really well into the battle system, and it pleases the "Numbers Going Up" part of my brain. the themes are good, (Guernica is a picasso painting about the horrors of war: hint hint), the music is absolutely gorgeous, (I especially enjoy the little string breakdown during elite battles), and the world is super engaging. I'm in the middle of some colony gamma quests in chapter 3, so I can't wait to see where it goes from here!

Okay yeah, Consul B is a goddamn damage sponge. Holy shit I'm dying to level up a bit and murder his ass.

Also Chapter 3 really cool thus far. Really feels like the game is opening up more and more. My sidequest-tism is happy.

If this is the dumbass with the grab, I just ran three healers and limped my way through at level 24 (aka his level) on hard mode. He's a cheating asshole, but he kills too slow with three healers unless his aoe kills all of them. I used 2 medic gunners, controlled one of them who was Eunie, and one War Medic. I almost got interlink lvl 3 twice due to how long the battle went on. Took me about 4 chain attacks but I did win eventually.

It doesn't help that you're stuck with the dumb shield guy who is utterly trash in chain attacks because his hero ability changes the normal tank one that's actually useful, he does no damage due to no fusion arts, and his hero ability sucks because it is so hard to get him back consistently. His order was decent though so I took it every time I got it.

So his class is bad or just him as a 7th party member is bad? Which ones would you recommend?

Also, apparently the ResetEra fags are losing their shit over that certain photo. Anyone have pics of this?

The shield guy himself is shit. Sucks at grabbing aggro. The problem is that you need him as your 7th in order to be able to fight Consul B so you are stuck with him regardless.

Outside of having topple, he's garbage. He does fuck all in chain attacks, his damage is piss without his talent up to augment his damage skills and one of them has a super slow animation, he is a topple bot with a pretty good in-theory talent art for tanking if he holds aggro. His taunt is good in-theory, but taunts can be resisted (for some reason). His chain skill is also useless and you're stuck with him during an annoying fight. His order is okay, but I know another tank later has an insanely broken chain attack order so fuck him after I get that. I switched back to Valdi asap once I was done with his quest

His class is good for master skills because he gives topple so you can drop Lanz's also shitty class (that auto attack is way too slow, I hate it). I'd never use him as a 7th if I didn't need to. I'm giving his class to everyone so I have master art topple on every Agnus class. I haven't really used it as I went to bed after getting it, but it seems okay if you have ways to get aggro outside of the class itself (master arts, etc).

Having a lot of fun right now with it, can hardly put it down to do life shit really. Extremely engrossing. I think the way they fused the combat system from 1 and 2 is pretty elegant, even if it exposes the slowness of 1's combat when you don't have 7 arts to cycle through for the Keves classes. Just got done with tits mctwoswords and I unlocked her class. I'm playing on hard, so in most major encounters I've got to roll healer, so far the existing classes suck dick at dishing out healing, positioning and buff auras without my controlling them. Excited to see how the rest of the combat system unfolds, but I miss a few things about how Xeno2 went about it. Still, the menu, QOL, and pacing improvements to the story are appreciable, and it's nice seeing all of the little mini Grafs as villains

It took me a bit to get used to it because they were throwing 50 tutorials at me in a row in the beginning. However, having replayed XB1 just before this, once it clicked it really reminded me of XB1's combat. Instead of just scrolling through actions for Shulk to do, you're scrolling through different players for actions to do. It's actually fairly similar.

There are obvious references to other games. Keves and Agnes at war *has* to be a Xenogears reference.

There are multiple areas which match old locations too, like.....

So something is going on. I have my suspicions, but I'm only on Chapter 4, so we'll see. I have been exploring a ton and was level 46 when I fought
Joran/Urine
and it was too easy. I'm starting to think I should save my exploring for later so I'm not so overlevelled for main story beats. The end of Chapter 3 was fucking great. Really enjoying it.

Finished the game back on the first and I just came here to say
Rex fucking deserved it, lad is dumb but he has a good heart and earned it.
Beyond that I have to say I really loved the entire cast and the story to the point where it managed to dethrone Tales of the Abyss as my favorite game.

I think its my favorite JRPG of the last decade for one reason and one reason alone. They whole fucking story is telling zoomers to stop living in the now, stop being a fucking degenerate (the mobius lot are degenrates that get kicks from doing sick shit to kids), find yourself a wife or three and settle the fuck down have a family and everyone gets old so fucking deal with it.

Monolith is basicly pulling a Guile and telling them all to go home and be a family man.
