Predator 5 announced - Why can't they leave this fucking franchise just rest in peace?

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I didn't even watch it, that's how little I give a shit about YouTubers. Sorry not sorry if that gets people's panties in a bunch. You people know on an intellectual level this movie is going to be nothing but woke girlboss garbage yet you still lie to yourselves. "Oh my god, YouTube man said it might not be all bad! Better rush to the theater post haste!".

You are your own worst enemies.
Yes, a lot of YouTubers are trash and most modern movies are trash, especially this one. But again, no, you're still the point here.

A lot? Pretty much any YouTube channel that is part of the (((algorithm))) is nothing but dogshit or 'influencing' and corporate paid advertising. Even RedLetterMedia is now at the point where they just give attention to endless trash films and pop culture mediocrity with barely any insight or criticism. "Hey everyone we saw the latest capeshit film.....it was okay but not great....you should see it as well".

I saw Prey over a week ago. I left feeling like the franchise was going in a worse direction than Alien after Covenant. Yet every single "fan" site and mainstream media site praised 'Prey' as being one of the best films in the franchise and a classic horror film. I knew that they should shill the film no matter what. But the overwhelming praise was shocking. And now these sites are going back to Prometheus and Covenant and revising their initial reviews to be more sympathetic and accepting of those artistic and intellectual disasters.

At this point both the Alien and Predator franchises are no longer making films for the fans of the original films. The fans have been replaced by faggots who collection funkopops and comic books. We are in Star Wars territory just with about 1% of the popularity. Where the new weirdo fans outnumber the normal adults twenty to one. And so now the films will appeal to morons who need to yell "YES SLAY QUEEN!!" at the screen. And with characters who remove their helmets on alien planets.

Nigga their last three videos aside from BOTW were a review of Brain Candy, Black Phone, and a discussion of the fucking Muensters trailer.

I’m cautiously optimistic about Prey. It’ll be on a service I already subscribe to so no real loss if it’s trash. After seeing predators wanting to inject themselves with literal autism and Olivia Munn playing a scientist, this can’t be any worse.

Imagine being emotionally invested in a movie you know will suck just for internet points.
He's been around on Something Awful, Something Sensitive etc...for years using the same handle. When he's not LARPing as some military expperienced guy and melting down when called out about it, every now and again he chimps out like this over something trivial and it's quite amusing, just sit back and watch the show :)

So is the movie good or not?
If it was the first Predator movie in the entire series, it might be an all time classic because, so much of it would be original including the monster. But it is basically a remake of various scenes from previous Predator (and Alien, AvP, and other horror) films in a slightly different setting. With nothing being original (especially if you have read some of the comics) or risk taking. Just like how Predators was a soft reboot of the first Predator film, this film retreads old ground over and over and you will recognize the same scene from some other movie at every turn. But unlike Predators, were they introduced Super Predators, the game preserve planet, and had the River Ghost monster, this one does not have anything really that stands out in terms of them really expanding the scale of the franchise. They try to be safe with the Predators and not stomp on the lore. Nor do things like visit the Predator homeworld and have like cleanup crew Predator like AvP:R did or visit some Engineer planet so they can take their helmets off again on a foreign world.

This movie was just.....underwhelming. Maybe I am just fatigued at bad Alien and Predator movies. Or I am still shell-shocked by the stupidity of Covenant and The Predator and am just burned out on anything with Aliens or Predators in them.

But other than a full reboot of both franchises I just cannot see either of these series being anything but vehicles for quick one-off stories and cheap and easy narratives. Like Predators battle samurai or redkins or Roman soldiers. Or Aliens battle space marines or space delta force for a movie or television show. With no explorations of lore or concepts and large scale conflicts and hard sci-fi looks into the Aliens, Predators, or even Engineers as species or beings. Just an establishment of the humans, the monsters, then they fight like a monster or horror movie. This seems like the direction that Disney wants for the franchise.

Also this Predator is yet another Predator that fights like a complete dolt. Which is another problem for this franchise in that in horror franchises usually the victims are the ones running around stupidly getting hacked up by Jason and Freddy. But in Predator and Aliens the monsters are way too often the dumb ones.

In the wake of the film not being as woke as feared, people are having a go at Critical Drinker and others (like myself, for being a part of those who were skeptical about the trailers).

The concept is great but the execution is poor. Same with Predators. The idea of Predators going to earth during various times and fighting various groups like Roman soldiers, samurai, Navy SEALs, cartel gangs, and what not is fine. The idea of Predators kidnapping the deadliest killers and alien species and putting them in a game preserve to hunt is fine. But when half of their dialog is lifted directly from the first Predator film it becomes jarring and breaks immersion.

And how many times do I need to see the lone survivor human use a giant bonfire to kill another Predator? They are just using the same plot points and stories over and over again. Yeah AvP:R is pitch black, low budget, and drags on. But the idea of a Predator who is not hunting for game but cleaning up a mess was at least new. And they even threw in Yutani Corp. getting some Predator gear in the end and expanded the lore of the movies.

its not emotional investment not to want retards who haven't seen a movie not to shit all over threads about how it sucks and they won't see it over and over.

change your name to white noise already

... considering the state of both franchises, that sounds pretty good.

Shit if the next Alien was basically just a decent remake of the original Alien I'd be pretty fucking stoked at this point compared to the shit they've been putting out.

But other than a full reboot of both franchises I just cannot see either of these series being anything but vehicles for quick one-off stories and cheap and easy narratives. Again, honestly if they just went 'Let's make Alien: Isolation into a movie' it would be better than anything produced in that series since Aliens. It's a trash franchise, and a shame that the third best movie in it is the campy as fuck AvP (the first one anyway, I think there's a sequel, never saw it, or was too trashed to remember anything).

As far as Predator goes, yeah it's even worse. 1 is an all time classic, 2 is... something I haven't watched in like 15 years and have no desire to rewatch... Everything else is fucking garbage.

So yeah if you're telling me that there's a Predator movie that sticks to its roots and doesn't suck and isn't retarded, that's about as much as I could expect from anything coming out of either franchises at this point.

Cautiously optimistic, hopefully it won't suck.

You are clearly butt blasted. Maybe you should take a break from the internet. The next step is probably trooning out and nobody wants that.

I can watch Alien 1-3 no problem (mostly the longer versions). Sometimes Alien 4. I can watch Predator, Predators, and AvP1 as well pretty much anytime. Predator 2 and The Predator are just embarrassing. AvP:R needs a remaster with new lighting for me to watch it regularly. And Prometheus and Covenant are impossible to watch and not cringe at the dialog, the awful old Weyland makeup, and the brain-dead scientists. Prey will probably fall into the category of something I would watch more often than not when binge watching the franchise.

If Predator 1 is a 10. The Predator is a 0. And Predators is a 6 or 7. Then Prey is probably a 5 or 6. Enjoyable but not the direction I want for this franchise. I want less "slay queen" in both Alien and Predator.
