Predator 5 announced - Why can't they leave this fucking franchise just rest in peace?

So the movie was the same shit we've come to expect from Predator for 30 years now?

Meh, guess that was to be expected from Predator at this point, but also straight to Hulu garbage

I liked it overall. A straight to the point, simple, standalone (I know, it's the 5th part of a series, but at this point I'll take everything that's not trying to setup a multivese) monster horror story, everything had a good setup and payoff, nothing was pulled out of their ass. Although the last confrontation, where the Predator just had to stand in the right place to get hit by its own homing darts, and he's just standing there dumbfounded for a few seconds was a bit too much. Obviously it'll not going to shake the world, but I wasn't expecting it to.

The onl cool moment was the dude on the horse trying to 1v1 the predator and getting some good hits in. The woman was annoying and the fight at the end was fucking retarded. Liked the predator costume although at some points you could see he looked too much like a man in a suit. The punishment the predator took was a bit stupid too, like he was invincible (spears though his body, gunshot to the head etc...) until the plot needed him to die. The predator in pred 1 needed to retreat to patch himself up after a lucky shot.

As someone with a passing knowledge of French, the trappers' accents were fucking all over the place, which.... is not a surprise. I thought the movie was interesting in that the main character was building up a skillset to be able to defeat predator, which made for a good hero's quest through-line. There was absolutely some elements of luck involved but if you're coming to these movies for some kinda fuckin realism when it comes to fight sequences then that's on you

When I saw the trailers I thought it would be a disaster, when I saw the reviews coming in I thought it would be great, it ended up somewhere in the middle. I liked how the Predator was more savage and primal, some good kills, compact run time, the soundtrack and effective use of silence when needed. The plot armour on the protagonist was a bit ridiculous though, and the fur trappers seemed to be there solely to be evil and add to the body count. I also couldn't help but notice that, aside from her brother, every male character is either an idiot or and arsehole
like why do the other warriors beat and tie her up? You could have achieved the same thing by them leaving together but just not giving her a weapon
.

Also, one other note to all film makers. If you're making a serious action scene, don't use the Wilhelm scream because it instantly breaks the immersion.

the last Predator movie involved a Predator trying to steal an autistic child in order to inject himself with the autistic kid's spinal fluid in order to "upgrade" himself, and ended with a Predator Iron Man suit, which was the least bad option (since Arnold wanted too much money for a cameo) considering they also built some kind of Weyland-Yutani time travel pod with an oxygen mask designed to look like a facehugger, and it was supposed to be Ripley or Newt inside. not sure if they actually filmed it or just did test shots with a stuntwoman, but either way, this has to be an improvement.

oh no, there's a dog!

So my favorite character was the dog. I honestly thought the movie was kinda boring. I didn't like how different the Predators face was. His whole design was just kind of meh in this movie, nothing really stood out.

I watched it and it was better than I thought it'd be. Not great but good, the direction was better than the last two films, the atmosphere and sound design were great and I kinda wish I got to see it in theaters. Characters were fine, the lead didn't really change much and was always a bad ass which I didn't really like but I guess if she was too inexperienced then she probably wouldn't be able to take out the Predator. I suppose it doesn't matter because it's not like the original emphasized the character development of Dutch or anything. I just think it's a decently made film, the politics will most likely annoy anyone going in who dont agree with them but I didnt find it that egregious. And I also felt it ended anti-climactically but for the most part it's a decent action horror film. Not good as the original but the best of the sequels so far.

It is the third or even fourth Predator film to end this way. With the main character killing a Predator (or Alien). Then getting visited by other Predators who take that Predator away but leave the lead character alive. Setting up for a sequel where the lead character will meet the Predators again.

Predator 2 had the Predators reveal themselves to the main character and give him a gun. Setting up for the Predator CIA team to recruit him (but no sequel was made). AvP had the Predators give her a gift of Predator technology after she survived the whole Alien Queen fight (and AvP actually did get a direct sequel with Requiem). Predators had the leads alive and waiting for the next round of Predator hunters and their game (no sequel ever came). Even The Predator sets up for a sequel with the Predator Iron Man suit (no sequel either).

Based on this track record likely Prey gets no sequel. They have flirted with the idea of someone hunting with Predators or living on the game planet for years now. There were ideas for a prequel story with Noland from Predators as well. None of it ever happens.

It was better than I expected, I even liked the idea of using the environment and traps to weaken/kill it, I can even buy the predator shooting himself to dead since he had just taken a bullet to the back of the head he probably wasn't thinking clearly at that point, but I hate the numerous conveniences in the final fight, like the conveniently placed rocks so she doesn't get decapitated, the convenient tree that forces the predator to chop of his arm, the convenient dog distracting the predator so she can escape, etc. And don't get me started on the fact that the predator chose to simply throw her away instead of slamming her on the ground and punching her to dead, I hate when movie monsters just throw the protagonist away instead of killing them like they do with every other character

Because this one was a hardened primitive predator, the one from Predator 1 was a zoomer predator who gets anxiety from a gunshot and needs his space meds instead of taking it like a man :P

Is that what happened? I thought she tricked him into doing that accidentally, like she did that on purpose and had planned it. That's how I read it anyway.
convenient in the sense that the blade got stuck instead of slicing trough it like it sliced trough everything else in the film, but its still better than the convenient rocks and the convenient dog, and convenient throw instead of getting killed on the spot

Basically Naru had all the plot armor in the world, was stronger and faster than everyone else, apparently a technical ground expert. There was no point in the movie whatsoever where she was actually in any danger. If that's not Mary Sue, I don't know what is.

Actually, I feel that the movie tries to combine both worlds. Naru has some pretty obvious plot armor and luck, and the movie makes the male characters dumb to artificially boost Naru's stock. But she also has to do quite a bit of work to earn her victory, so she's not 100% Sue. Still very much a present day Strong Action Womyn trope though, although a less annoying example of one.

The movie is alright, but also kind of uneventful. It tries to capture the feel and tone of Arnie's Predator, but I'd still recommend people that haven't seen Arnie's Predator to watch that one instead.

Somewhat irrationally, I get distracted by how she always keeps her long hair straight down but somehow it never gets in the way no matter how much running and tumbling she is doing. Tie the hair back, sis, it's much more practical when you want to be an action heroine.

That's basically the comic then.
The comic is set in the aliens setting, a predator hunting planet was colonized by humans in the predators absence, so when the predators returns to the planet to hunt and seed it with xenomorph eggs the colony gets unwittingly involved. Some other stuff happens and the Japanese director of the colony teams up with one of the predators to hunt the xenomorphs and rogue predators. At the end the director gets inducted into the predator tribe and goes hunting with them getting a nifty spear too if I recall made from a xenomorph tail.

Great movie, Subverting your expectations done right.
Not much of a spoiler now but imagine how the original audience experienced it, an Arnie movie with a big over the top action scene at the start full of macho muscular men saying one liners and being. Then the predator shows up and it becomes a slasher movie with the big soldier men being a helpless summer camp councillors.

For me, it was how much of an ass she had. Don't know if you've seen a lot, but Native women are known for having less ass than white women. This girl was packing.
