Predator 5 announced - Why can't they leave this fucking franchise just rest in peace?

In the wake of the film not being as woke as feared, people are having a go at Critical Drinker and others (like myself, for being a part of those who were skeptical about the trailers).

I'm really not a fan of drinker but didn't he just put out a video praising Everything Everywhere All at Once? Assuming the movie isn't actually "woke" or whatever, the marketing was absolutely terrible then, and it's kind of easy to say "lol fragile manbaby" when you wait until after a movie releases and it turns out good. If it was shit like 99% of other movies with this type of marketing are (cough cough Dark Fate) these retards would instead be cooming over the next Marvel trailer or whatever it is they do.

Main character is bordering on Mary Sue with inexplicable motivations and just a generally unlikable personality.
But the action scenes were fun like the Predator MMA fighting a bear and John Wicking a bunch of dirty, greedy Frenchmen. I can see how some people would like it, you just need to ignore the characters and the plot.

Final battle was pretty dumb though. They try to make it seem like she outsmarts and outfights the predator but she uses knowledge she can't possible have regarding the Predator's movement, technology and behaviour and did I mention the Predator punches a bear to death? That tiny skinny bitch should have been dead the moment she jumped on the predators back and he grabbed her.

People get their arms and legs cut off, so that's good. The original had a lot of people dying, but no real gore was shown.

If Predator 1 is a 10. The Predator is a 0. And Predators is a 6 or 7. Then Prey is probably a 5 or 6. Enjoyable but not the direction I want for this franchise. I want less "slay queen" in both Alien and Predator.
"Slay queen" is always gonna be at the core of Alien, so it doesn't bother me, at least as long as it's dealt with like it was in 1 and 2 (and to a degree, 3), meaning, she can't really do shit about it except scream and flee, and the only time there's ever a chance to fight back it's because a shitton of technology to back her up.

As far as Predator, I think that could be an interesting twist once for the franchise. Instead of being huge muscled men with large weapons, to have a tiny woman who can only use the elements to try and kill the predator can be a novelty, as it wouldn't be something that predators would be expecting, so using the element of surprise, and for once it's not historically so inaccurate because unlike millenial women, comanches including women were actually warriors and trackers who used their small frame to their advantage so as long as they don't go the atomic blond way it could be satisfying to see.

I'm not against yass queen slay per se, only when it doesn't make any fucking sense.

That shit has only come up in modern times. Similar to how to horror is "queer," the hate towards Lovecraft despite using his ideas and idiotic documentaries about how certain horror franchises are feminist. Thankfully, you can simply ignore that nonsense for what it is and enjoy the film. Have you seen the film? What do you think about it? I hated the last one and the blatant Arnold fake out with the stupid mech suit or whatever it was.

That's not true, especially in horror. Huge, bulky killer versus tiny woman has been a staple in horror since.... forever. Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Alien, etc... The only difference with the modern take on it is that in the modern version a 5'1" can roundhouse kick a 6'2" russian who has 150 pounds on her halfway through the room, while it used to be realistic, and those women were women and had to use their environment or their wits in order to survive.

A good modern example of that is You're Next. A must watch, too.

As far as horror being queer or killers being feminists and whatever, it's just post-modern 'Death of the Author' bullshit that no one in horror buys, it's the only subgenre that hasn't been ruined by woke politics yet and is still resisting them as hard as it can for the most part. Same with basically metal.

As far as the movie, I'm gonna watch it tonight as I pregame for later, so I'm sure a few drinks will help make it more tolerable if it's shit.

I enjoyed Prey. Decent acting, good sound(track), great kills, really good effects for a "direct to stream service" movie,
pretty good cinematography and a good finale which would've been a great one if it wasn't for the FUCKING DOG.

Downgrading the Predator and altering his design a bit was a good choice imo.

I don't know how accurate the depiction of the Comanche tribe is but nobody else here does
or cares I presume.
The theme of the main protagonist wanting to be a hunter and to be taken seriously,
took away way more screen time than needed and, given the day and age we live in,
may leave a bad taste in some mouths. And there is some misplaced bad humor in a few kills.

If they would've pumped a bit more money into their cgi effects, this could've been something like
a "summer blockbuster".

Way better than what I expected. Yesterday I thought it would be shit and I wouldn't even bother checking out it, this morning I was lukewarm after seeing a few reviews from people I trusted and was hoping it wouldn't stuck. It's actually really fucking good. 9/10 as far as horror goes. Not at all a strong womyn overcomes all movie. With a few tweaks, a bit more gore, cutting one line and slightly less hammy acting from a few characters, and it would be a genuine 10/10.

The Predator deadlifts a bear above his head and walks around with it. The bear at least weights 500lbs and maybe even over 1,200lbs. Same Predator loses in CQC battles to a 5'1" maybe 100lbs girl. The Predator punches a hole in the bear like a supe from The Boys. It is manhandled by a little girl and is unable to even strangle her despite its otherworldly strength. She only survives because of plot armor afforded to her because she is red female.

You sound like the "consume more product" mindless crowd. This movie was terrible. Imagine if in Predator 1 the woman Anna started beating the shit out of the Predator in CQC all of a sudden and tricked him into shooting himself with his helmet like a retard.

The movie literally screams at you 'The Predator doesn't seen her as a threat because she's so weak' multiple times, to the point where she even says it out loud, twice. The only reason she survives is because the Predator allows her to take him by surprise. It also shows that by the time she manages to do that, he's been hurt by like the 20 or so people beforehand who fought against it and manages to get serious hits in. It's not a Predator fresh off the boat, it's a Predator that has been fighting and killing over a hundred people & creatures over the last 24 hours and has been injured many many times by that point by much stronger and bigger men. He's injured, tired, and lets his guard down in front of something he doesn't see as a threat which allows her to hit him in a way she wouldn't have been able to before.

She also doesn't go hand to hand combat with it, it happens literally once (when she jumps off the branch) and as soon as that happens she gets the shit kicked out of her and would have died if it hadn't been for conveniently placed rocks that prevented her from being decapitated. The rest of the time it's because she's using her environment and gets him to injuring himself on traps she set out. She kills him despite the fact that she can't hurt him herself or with her own weapon. She gets him to hurt himself like 95% of that fight.

Enjoyed the movie a lot, good cinematography and fight choreography, it doesn't do the stupid Liam Neeson shit where its 50 takes for him to move 5 feet. Most of the action scenes are single take (real or fake) and the camera doesn't shake like Michael J Fox is the cameraman.

The message of the movie is great and relevant, immigrants are only here to steal your shit and kill you and you must kill all foreigners immediately with no hesitation. Good message for America and Europe, hope audiences embrace it.

I too am pleasantly surprised by Prey. Critical Drinker's trailer reaction video made it out to be another one those ra ra girl power feminism type movies but that wasn't really much the case. Adolescent girl has a penchant for hunting in a presumably structured tribal society, overcomes that and decides to hunt the Predator. As previously mentioned by @Internet War Criminal the fight against the op Predator becomes one of wits and ingenuity vs raw strength, which the movie shows pretty well especially in the penultimate scene where the girl devises a trap that kills the Predator with its own weapons.

Also, the way the French trappers are portrayed is hilarious.

All the budget went into Arnold's salary and the costume probably.
They did redesign the predator

And yes that is Jean Claude van Damme who would have originally played the predator.

It felt a bit too convenient like if everything didn't go exactly like it did she'd have been dead.
In the first predator movie Arnie had a plan, as the final fight unfolds his plan goes wrong and he must adapt but there was a a clear set of events he had planed for and we as the audience could follow it. In this case it seemed more a matter of she came up with some really iffy plans and just hope things work out.
She setup the spear trap, the spear fight, and then the mask trap.
The spear fight was literally just her planning on fighting the predator with raw strength though, there's no way she'd known the predator would be dumb enough to leap attack her (especially after doing so last time landed him in the spear trap) and that the predator would be dumb enough to get stuck in the tree, or that she'd be able to overpower the predator and make him cut off his own arm. So it seem her plan was to soften the predator up, then 1v1 him with the spear and if that doesn't work... somehow get him into the bog and hope he'd stand at that exact spot and that he'd used his spear gun and none of his other weapons.

She gets him to hurt himself like 95% of that fight.

I'm amazed that kiwis think this makes it good. That the predator had to take stupid pills for the girl to win. What the hell is it, are you guys so starved of non-retarded sci fi after Star Wars and Star Trek that you'll praise anything that has 'only' 50% dogshit laced through it?

it's because she's using her environment and gets him to injuring himself on traps she set out

A primitive human that is no threat to the predator tries to kill it with a trap he set out:
