Long-time lurker, rare poster here. First off, I wish the best for Josh and his family, I hope everything goes OK for you and your folks. Family comes first.

Thank you so much for keeping this site afloat for as long as you have, it's brought me years of entertainment and information and for that I can't thank Josh and my fellow Kiwibros and Kiwisisters enough for providing.

What I love most about this site is how much of a big middle finger it is to current internet. The current internet where censorship is king, disgusting degenerates are placed upon an untouchable pedestal where they may not be criticized or held accountable for their words and actions. If you do not blindly follow this mantra you're deflatformed, censored, demonetized, and shunned, because how dare YOU say something someone doesn't like.

But here on the farms, no matter where you stand in regards to politics, race, sex, religion, etc, you're allowed to say your piece, no matter how retarded your take is, as long as you're not breaking any laws or site rules, you're allowed the freedom to express yourself. I can't understate how important that is, and it saddens me that this has become so scarce on the internet.

Another amazing aspect of this site is how we hold people featured on here accountable for the things they've said and done and we keep verifiable proof of it archived for those curious and inquisitive so that those who choose to DFE can't hide from the truth.

That's why I hope this site doesn't die, even if we're secluded here on the darknet for the foreseeable future, I'm perfectly OK with that fact for the reasons listed above. Whatever decision Josh makes in regards to the fate of this site, I'll respect whatever choice he makes, regardless of my feelings on the matter. I'm still optimistic despite everything that's happened, I believe we'll push through.

But if things go further south, oh well, life goes on. Unlike Keffals and those trannies, most of us don't live on the internet 24/7. We have family, friends, jobs, hobbies, and various other things to keep us occupied. Even if we don't have a site to speak our minds, they'll never take our thoughts away, and that will eat at them until they 41%.

Stay strong my fellow Kiwis, its not over until it's over.

I hope there are backups of the servers. At the very least, a few trusted kiwis should get backups, even if Null wishes to keep account data to himself, at least archives should be up and running.

Archives would make it harder for Null himself to be pressured, and decentralising seems like the only good option. Could Null make it so that people can run a program on their pcs, but without letting them access the user data? Kind of set up multiple tor nodes, and have multiple backup servers, even if they are slow as hell?

As for the register, what about some other trusted oldfag making another company for IP registry and circumventing it to host "Mango Ranch" ?

I am just worried about Null getting taken out, pressured too much or simply falling ill. We are getting older, and we may get more ill.

I see people posting in other places how this site is for organizing gangstalking, threatening and harassing people. so personally i have been aware of this place for years and i always heard about how kiwifarms is a bad place and all they do is harass people and all that stuff so i kinda stayed away just to be safe but as time went on and i kept hearing about this place eventually i decided to lurk and i was pretty surprised to be honest. from everything i was told i was expecting something worse than 4chan was back in the day but it was just like most other forums the only real difference is everyone just said whatever they wanted and arguments seemed to go better. like you could disagree with each other and it was fine there was none of that MOOODDSSS THIS PERSON MADE ME UPSET BAN THEMM REEE type shit so many other forums and websites in general have.

that was when i started to think maybe kiwifarms isnt as bad as they say it is. so i would lurk occasionally then eventually due to the recent CWC arc i made an account finally and at first i was scared to post anything but much to my surprise everyone has been super chill even if they might not agree with something i say or whatever else its honestly very refreshing especially when you look at places like twitter or facebook where you say one thing wrong and this army of people you have never even heard of shows up as if you personally shot someones puppy in front of them.

kiwifarms is a good place and i fully believe if more people would just think for themselves then they would see this place is harmless all we do is laugh at people and shitpost.

lemme also add the people we laugh at some are legit insane some have unfortunate lives in general. some might just be awful people. but they all have one thing in common. they are that way because people let them be that way so instead of saying we are the bad people for laughing at them maybe think about how there is a pretty large chance those people would not be there for us to laugh at if someone in their life or the world in general actually gave a fuck about them and got them to help they needed or stopped encouraging their awful behavior.

Could someone explain to a boomer like me what the up and downsides of hosting a site on the Tor network are, besides it being less accessible?

Is it still susceptible to being taken down by middlemen companies terminating your accounts? Is it easier or harder to DDoS? Does it require more resources / better servers to host than a regular website with the same amount of users? Can the .onion address be taken from you like an IP address or domain name could?

- Being behind Tor allows you to hide from your hoster. That means, they can know you're hosting something on Tor, but they don't know what service it is. Often, darknet websites are hosted somewhere but don't connect to the network directly from there, but from one or several servers connected to the main server by a middlebox. That hides further the identity of the service. That's how darknet marketplaces are run, for example.
- No, you don't need more resources, but if you really want to hide your service you need to make a good setup, and that can be difficult.
- If you don't hide from your hoster you still can be taken down by them
- No, without a security breach into your server no one can take your onion address from you or impersonate you

I've been here long enough to remember and miss the feeling of a smaller community, wouldn't mind having that back, but know it's unreasonable to expect nool to maintain this website indefinitely without opportunity for growth. Tor is pretty accessible these days though. With the censorship and crumbling of free expression on clearnet I think there might be more migration than there would have been before.
