I'll be honest, I certainly didn't expect for Russia to retreat from their only foothold west of the Dnieper, and the only Oblast capital they've actually managed to capture, but there's a few things we can take from this.

For one, Ukraine is now pretty unlikely to end up landlocked at the end of this thing, I always thought talk about Odessa was a bit unrealistic and premature considering Nikolaev remained in the way, but it remained a popular talking point among Pro-Z.

Two, it will be interesting to see if once Russia withdrawls in full and Ukraine officially liberates Kherson, if they dam the Crimea water supply again or not, if they don't, expect a backroom deal happened.

Although I know who we are talking about, I had to double-check because Stremousov is not an "occupation mayor" but a deputy governor, which means that his work includes a trip around the region. Also, the evacuation from Kherson has been taking place for two weeks, as Stremousova himself said. And you need to either check your eyesight to see video footage or at least read reports on incidents. He collided with a truck, and the body of the car was torn off from the chassis.

Are you high? One of the primary objectives of this war, if not THE primary objective of the war was securing Crimeas water supply. Russia cannot do that if they don't control Kherson.

Why would that be the case? They still control the Crimea canal and have a land bridge. They're not abandoning the entire region, just the right bank.

Why would Ukraine attempt a river crossing in Kherson instead of mining the right bank and rigging the bridges to blow in the event of another attempt by Russia to cross, then redeploying all the maneuver elements currently tied up in Kherson to Zaporizhzhia to strike towards Melitopol ?

Russia is totally isolated because of this insane war of aggression and I don't understand why they're doing it.

Based on my observations from this thread and elsewhere, it's not like people have made it clear why Russia has the position that it does, but many people (you included apparently) simply won't acknowledge it or will dismiss those trying to explain it as shills; that's not to say that you have to agree with it, or even that Russia's perspective is even 100% justifiable, but their primary issue seems to be that they have a fear of NATO (American, let's call it what it is) expansion and fuckery. Is that to say that Russia's a good boy who dindu nuffin? Yes, he was on his way to church n shieeeeet. No.

At the end of the day though I do think you'll be happy in that I think Russia is really going to be fucked hard after this all. Ironically they've probably just hastened strengthening America's influence and cultural hegemony in the region. In the end, the regular citizens (including those in the military who didn't ask for this shit) should still be worthy of sympathy.
