Anybody remember that MTV show Pimp My Ride from the 2000s?

My thought process is how were these car even STREET LEGAL? Also, whose bright idea was it to put all those electronics in the BACK?

A lot of them weren't legal at all. A good few also were owned by people still paying n them and ended up being seen by the lender who ended up demanding the person restore the car to stock or just return it to the lender after a single missed payment because there was no longer any real value in it for them to float the owner any longer. Some where just straight up manufactuired stories with the cheapest junk cars MTV could find.

I was looking up 2wd trucks on YouTube and this gem came up lmao.
The guy in the video looks and sounds like another car youtuber that goes by WatchJRGo

Typical case of subpar trash GM quality. Some models are good and have a following like the LS1 powered G8, Trans Am, and Fiero. The Vibe is basically a rebadged Toyota Corolla hatch.
The vibe is pretty rad. Costs less than a Toyota Matrix but you can still get it 6 speed AWD with a 158hp 4 cylinder. The odometer not having the ability to go over 259999 miles is a known issue. It's that good of a car

Yeah but the Vibe isn't really a GM car. It's a Toyota in a dress. Same story with the Dodge Stealth, Eagle Talon, and other badge sharing cars.

Exactly. I love a crypto-japanese car. 60% of the price with 100% of the quality. Except the interior. 90s-00s GM had awful interiors. Whoever thought it was a good idea to put reflective chrome in the gauge cluster has never driven through the Midwest through sunrise or sunset in an un-tinted vehicle.

There's a guy in the local offroad scene that turned a Vibe in to rough-rally and camping car. He had it for a few years until he bought a newer Forester with his first real job and he sold it to a younger cousin of his who still takes it out to trail rides and shit. I'm pretty sure my 17 year old nephew is completely enthralled with that girl, too because everytime he comes with me to camp outs and rides, he spends a lot of time talking about her car and helping anyone with issues change tires, run fuel cans and other manly stuff where she can see or hear on the PTT

Damn I can't wait for next spring. 2023 will be the year of dual carbs for me. Can we organize a K*wi F*rms off-road weekend?

The guys a bit of a twat but Tavarish bought an old PMR van and restored it to its former hideousness.

I enjoyed the show but it was very retarded

I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet that the crowd of Toyota shills on youtube continues to grow. Taking inspiration from Scotty Killmer, a relatively new Toyota focused channel has sprung up by the name of Car Care Nut. A lot of his earlier videos have been pretty good on basic car maintenance for normie Bob and Sally with their super sporty Camry V6, but he gets a lot of things wrong as well and acts like an authority on the matter. One such example is the LC500 video where he frequently mentions tracking despite the car not having appropriate transmission heat exchangers from the factory for that.

Toyota is historically horrible at making performance cars, and they haven't become any better at it. If it weren't for partnering with BMW and Subaru they wouldn't even offer anything that could be considered fun. The LC500 is a big pig of a GT car and not fast, definitely not suited for track work. Car and driver recently had brake and transmission issues with the IS500F for lightning lap 2022. It's a $60,000 V8 sport sedan and look at what beat it around the track... golf R, civic type R, an ugly bmw 2 series...

Toyota has very little in the way of iconic performance cars. The 2000GT is probably the most beautiful japanese car but yielded nothing long term, the Corolla AE86's following is a total accident, the MR2 was very cool but never very successful, the celica and supra were basically the biggest hits and that's it. The celica lived too long and became a joke and the last gen of the Toyota supra (before the bmw nupra) became a phenomena but at the time was a lukewarm success; too expensive , and was killed off to suit. The 2JZ is probably the most overhyped boat anchor of an engine to exist.

The LFA doesn't even count since it was a flash in the pan halo car never to be repeated, much like the 2000GT...

With the way the auto press was singing their praises, I expected the new 86 and BRZ to turn quicker laps than 3:11-3:12.

I don’t think lap times are the primary focus for the toyobaru, it’s a fixed roof Miata competitor with a stupid engine configuration.

Okay. Dumb question for you lads with diesels.

I know that it is possible to convert to a biodiesel. On an older IDI engine, do I need to convert it back to standard configuration if I just leave it running regular diesel? There are no ECUs on this old ass engine so everything is controlled mechanically, and I'm wondering if the timing was modified since VWO has a higher viscosity?

Yeah the 86/brz are back to basics sports cars that aren't chasing numbers. The 2nd gens are faster than the last gen, which is nice. They're still a bit too expensive for my tastes as a connoisseur of old, neglected, and cheap cars.

What kind of diesel? VW? IHI? Mercedes? You generally have to be able to switch back and forth at will, I haven't seen a situation where you can't. It's common to have dual fuel lines and be able to switch fuels from the cab, with the waste oil being run through a heat exchanger or heated filter but the diesel not heated. Most start on diesel and then switch over to waste oil once it's running, and switch back to diesel before shutdown, this is desirable for obvious reasons. Being able to switch to an adjusted injection timing with the fuel is probably doable on some IDIs, but whether it's possible with your car, I don't know.

IDI 6.5L GM V-8 and an Isuzu IDI (You'll see me asking about the C-223t). Owner ran both with biodiesel on a SVO system. Vehicle body of the car the C223t is in seems to be in much better shape and has about 25% (ostensibly)t he milage of the V-8, but needs to have fuel lines redone since they're sucking air. I have a post earlier in this thread asking about the 223.
