The Legend of Heroes Series - Possibly The Most Underrated JRPG Series

Playing Zero, I hope the game manages to reach the insanity you get in the previous titles sequels where your ornaments give ridiculous OP spells.
Also, I could use without the game constantly deep throating bracers for how perfect they are. I always thought they were just another adventure guild with some good and bad members.

And god damnit the hidden quests always annoy me because I need to choose to either follow a guide that spoils things or just hope I don't miss anything important and finishing the game without full Detective rank.

By the way, is Azure something to play before Cold Steel 3?
Depends on your levels of tism, I basically did a "quick pass" through everything after each event. But this is one of the few games where I enjoy interacting with the npcs for the most part.

But yes, without tons of tism or with a spoiler free guide you will miss shit and it's annoying. It's the same reason I played all of the cold steel games from NG+ save files to have no limit in bonding points.

As for orbments, yeah, you can eventually break the game in half as per usual. the aoe spell that blocks one hit is obscenely useful in these games if I'm not misremembering.

As for Azure before Cold Steel 3, yes, I very much suggest you do that. You can play it via PSP emulatiom with a translation patch if you can't wait. Also, I think there was a proper geofront patch for Azure but not sure about the state of that.

Thanks. I kind of gave up on the plot of the series before because of the untranslated games. Though I think there are also manga and light novels with important info.

That I know of there is a sort of radio show of a first trip to Rean's hometown with the class. Don't remember the name but it's on youtube fully subbed. On the manga side there are a couple I read that have Estelle, Joshua and Toval and gives some story to a town. Wouldn't say it's crucial but took me for a loop when I got there and characters referenced things.

Aside from that I think everything else is derivative (ova just crunched up sections of the games, etc)... or that's what I was typing till I found this looking for the drama radio thing https://kiseki.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_media

Seems like there is a shit ton of stuff, but these 2 I highly suggest

Zero really starts picking up at Chapter 3, it's still fucking annoying how many times the series pulls the "you didn't really win" card. It's what gave me a huge burnout to the series after Cold Steel 2 had a huge gauntlet of bosses that you don't beat and get taken over by other characters, to the point you wonder what's even the point of your party being there.

I prefer having a small party, it avoids min maxing too much and using everything the characters have. Seeing images from the later games, you don't have a party, you have a posse.

I don't really like retconning Renne's background to her parents leaving her with a friend for her protection rather than selling her off/abandoning her. It makes it so everybody is a victim, rather than a reminder that sometimes people suck and it's better to move on.

The Cold Steel games ran pretty bad on Switch so Reverie will too. That said, it's a turn based RPG, so portability might be worth the tradeoff.

Zero and Azure get to the point a lot faster than Sky and Cold Steel for sure, I'd say It's my favorite arc of the batch. And yeah, the tight party helps.

You do end up being legion in later games though a good chunk of them are to fangasm about. But definitely hope things go down in terms of character bloat for Kuro.

I'm fine with how Renne's tale panned out, but I do get your point that them being a bunch of deadbeat fucks would have been more proper grim.

The problem with the large cast is that the metagame has always been is Speed > Magic > CP heals/buffs > CP generators >>> Everything else.

Oh, I was more referring from a narrative standpoint how having such a bloated cast means it's harder for them to have their moment. Yes, mechanics wise things are certainly not equal. In Cold steel 4 I just had Rean as an evasion tank that did a shit ton of damage and 3 casters going absolutely nuts, though there is a new mechanic on cold steel 3 and onward that allows spellcasters to become machineguns of death, I'm talking having a caster cast 5 times a spell before anything gets the next turn levels of blasting. The games aren't particularly hard, so if you enjoy a character that is crap in combat but you find cool it shouldn't fuck you over too much, so there is that silver lining.

I didn't know Evasion was possible, usually the quartz for it look pretty pitiable.

Thing is I don't remember if this is a Cold steel onward thing or not. But if you reach evasion 100 between orbments and equipment, you become almost untouchable. I think it was in Cold steel 2, in that one I managed to get both Fie and Rean at pretty close to 100% and Emma blasting everything into oblivion, as long as Emma wasn't getting clipped by big aoes, the other 2 gave 0 fucks for the most part, as long as you are on top of interrupts you shouldn't even be it by spells, so that only leaves you weary of the super animation attacks.

Problem is that Ults are usually the prime reason for game overs, especially when it's an aoe one.

True, though there is the strat that I used mostly in skies and zero which is bunch up and spam with 2 characters the aoe shell spell (absorb 1 hit of anything). With Tio's ult available you should have enough layers to absorb anything unless there are multiple enemies spamming AOE.

Ults are just less lethal in in cold steel and with a solid evasion setup you really shouldn't be caught often on low health.

Half of the English VA cast has me blocked on Twitter.

>Chiplock blocked me after I called him a fag when he went on one of his anti-Drumpf rants
>Cassandra Morris blocked me when I replied to her generic tweet decrying the Rittenhouse verdict with the video of Grosskreutz on the stand admitting he pointed a gun
>Xanthe Huynh blocked me when I DM'd her a cum tribute video of her I found on xhamster
>Erika Harclacher blocked me on Twitter when I sent her a pic of my Juna daki and said it was like we were in bed together
>she also blocked me on Instagram when I commented on one of her vacation pics that she has cute feet and that she should show them off more often

They're all mentally ill.
