Speaking of chainsawman I have to ask to anyone who's read the manga, has the anime been as bad of an adaptation as some people claim?
I purposely avoided reading the manga to go in blind, but if you've been following it on /a/ (not sure about reddit or twitter) its been 11 weeks of nonstop back and forth whether its a good anime to an overshilled flop that killed interest in the actual manga as well as MAPPA becoming the most polarized anime studio on the board,
It's not really BAD, they got enough manpower that things actually move with enough frames and characters stay on model. Some action scenes look great thanks to that, it goes a long way.
However it's really uninspired and a lot of highlights had much lesser impact. Some great shots were neutered too, whether it was to cut corners or for some other... nefarious reasons, that's up to you. Because yeah, the director is trying to put a "mature"/"cinematography" spin on this. He asked voice actors to not sound like they're dubbing an anime, and is trying his best to ape movies in his directing. It results in some basic shots looking very try hard (for instance: main character eats like a pig, other character sees the mess he left behind, funny - the anime puts emphasis on food porn and trying to make it look good and impressive and add fancy reflections on everything, not so funny actually kinda cringe), not fitting, various issues. It's Oscar bait.
Also the pacing is a lot slower than the manga, so the story feels a bit different.
Basically it's not bad and there's something to be enjoyed but it doesn't fit Chainsaw Man's chaotic identity. It's not a monkey paw, but it's not great either. You should only watch it after the manga if you like it (it's pretty good).
I find it funny that it runs alongside Mob and Bocchi, shows that actually embraced their "anime-ness" and got praised to high heavens for it. They're almost like two opposite work philosophies, and I think the latter is far better for the medium.
If you want a REALLY bad adaptation from the season, there's Hoshi no Samidare. Feels bad, man.
