I would guess that as most people seek instant gratification from visual media on the Internet ( preferring media like animation and images over say, a forum thread) online artists have come to think of themselves as special, content creators, that kind of thing. Especially since they can make money through YouTube channels, commissions, etc.The thing I never get with this response - and I'm seeing it everywhere, from both sides - is that does nobody actually enjoy drawing?
The actual process of drawing, or painting - whatever - is enjoyable. It's meditative. It's enjoyable in terms of the finished product, it's enjoyable in terms of observing your own skill level improve and increase over time. Everyone discussing the AI art stuff - people with artistic skill and those without - talk about it as if it's some terrible hardship being inflicted on them. AI has also started writing music, but I don't see musicians freaking out about it, or allowing it to take away what it is they love about playing.
I get why people without the ability to draw anything might think this, but it's bizarre that people with some skill think the same way.
Thus, there is no consideration about the enjoyment of drawing, because their upset isn't about that. It's about not being able to declare that you're special by calling yourself an artist anymore, since a program can presumably do your job now.
Idk about musicians as a comparison, but I can say that I don't see them getting on their high horses in comment sections nearly as much as I do artists.
