What the hell has Labelle even done to get beaten by cops? I'm pretty sure cops don't just beat people for simply being something they don't like, chances of that are small.

There's a new law about protesting since there was the whole '' University student want to lower how it cost to go to school'' event happen. Like, you must tell the police you want to protest and no more than 50 people.
If she have done what you said, then the police officer must have gone to tell her to stop protesting or go to jail.
I don't want to "powerlevel" but let's just say that those who didn't spend time protesting didn't lose two year of their lives. One protesting and another doing the work they could have done instead of protesting.

Working in the preschool sector and I can confirm that there are people who act like this in their job. It's easy to spot by their interactions with others, not just the kids but with co-workers and parents as well. A person in the job for power will make everything about themselves, take a job requiring them to be in charge of others but then expect those below them to do all the work for them while they take the credit for the results, blame everybody else for their own shortcomings, only admit their faults if it can be used for victim points/to excuse themselves from responsibility and will often state that parents are completely wrong in how they are raising their own children because 'they know better'.

I dunno about Canada, but only recently, you didn't really need a lot of qualification to work at a daycare/preschool. I seem to remember originally, you didn't even need a degree to work there. Nowadays you need an associates in Pre-K/2, but the standards are not as gnarly as if you were wanting to teach elementary or middle school.

Regarding the police...
I believe policemen (some, not all) are on power trips just as much as the protesters. I think that the mentality (us between them) and immunity for most of their actions on the force plays a role in them abusing whenever they can. I think that a better psychological selection would help, but most people with the right profile to be policemen don't want to be policemen because they'd work with people with the wrong psychological profile.
On the other hand, protesters are anarchists, angry against society, so they try to stick it to the man and fail. When faced with policemen, they attack them as they are "the enemy" and the average policemen mentality is to strike back to prove superiority.
Then again, as much as policemen wants to be nice, it can be stressful to be in an unpredictable crowd with lots of people hating you for what you represent. I won't blame a human to react to hate and violence with hate and violence.

They were impeding on private property, and the police were PUSHING them off the premises, not using their batons or any other physical contact.

What's going to happen is that she's going to call the cops, and everything the cops do, short of just kicking down the door and murdering her assailants, is going to be evidence of their transmisogyny. They don't care about trans victims if they don't immediately produce results for her.
