It's still painful that arguably the best written and directed horror game ever made is getting raped with a lazy normie friendly cash grab.
 
What is there to even "mOdErNiZe"? As far as i know, the only potentially triggering subject is that of sexual assault,
My guess is things like cell phones, flatscreens, newer car makes, and the internet will be shoved in for some reason. How could I possibly relate to James if he doesn't have a cell phone? I'm still waiting for the updated-for-modern-audiences Cabinet Des Doktor Calligaris, myself.

I guess there isn't just the topic of sexual assault, but also of incest - well, and suicide, but they sure as shit seem to have played a whole lot harder into the suicide angle than the original game from the trailer. I would agree that they'll probably aimlessly race-wash the cast, they'll probably make Eddie not fat, and Maria will get more autonomy despite that quite really being the antithesis of that character and its role. Maybe characters will sport some new threads - Pyramid Head in some yeezys?
But I bet this remake is gonna be lauded, no matter how much it misses the mark.
This is in part because everything about the game went from being niche to being mainstream. Horror had its classic heyday, of course, but it's one of the bigger genres out there today - it just happens to be complete shit. Video games were obviously way more niche in the 90s and early 00s, and yet now it's the highest-grossing entertainment industry. Twin Peaks goes from being a niche-but-popular series to this thing everyone jerks off and praises despite having never actually watched, because that's just what you do. Silent Hill joins the ranks, as this thing that's necessarily good but most of its "hardcore" fans can't explain why - because in reality they just liked PT and its SPOOKY JUMPSCARES as played by their favorite groomer streamer.

It will be lauded because you laud SH 1-3; that's just what you have to do. People will try to argue that it improves on the original, because they themselves were too stupid to figure out how to get an emulator running to play the original / too frustrated by its slow and tedious pace to finish it, and they'll be insecure about that fact. Sell modern horror and gaming tropes packaged up in the skin of an old classic, and you have a cure to that insecurity - that's going to sell like hot cakes.

I mean, you should just assume that no grave will be too important to rob. There's an important adage here.

But really, other creative industries should've warned that this would happen - books, movies, comics, et-al all have dark ages, whereby we forget everything we learned during our golden ages and just pointlessly churn out complete, total dreck to a mindless consumer base that can't help but to keep buying product. We just happen to be experiencing some simultaneous dark ages across different mediums at the moment. Of course, unlike other dark ages that saw course-corrections because of waning interest, this period of creative dearth has led to revenue record after revenue record, so it might be a long ride.

I typically do but even this surprised me. When I first started seeing the rumors I really thought it was impossible that any company would stoop that low and think they'll do anything that'll hold a candle to the original. I was too naive to think that something as beloved as this would get that treatment. There are no new ideas and they want you to live in a constant state of the present and erase the originals.

Some remakes I believe are warranted. I cannot think of a person saying they needed a SH2 remake. This one I think is the most offensive one that's been put forth.

Coming from a big studio like Konami, this is unsurprising. They fucked up MGS and Contra that it's so sad.

Konami is shitty pachinko company, but don't pretend Kojima wasn't a much bigger problem with MGS.

The only good thing I guess I can say about Konami is their Yu-Gi-Oh games, but even then most of them are mediocre and bland.

As for MGS, yes hiring Kojima will always be a mistake, making it a bigger problem for the Metal Gear series.

Well I think Kojima was fine, until he started huffing his own farts and had too much control of the script. He's just an insufferable hack now and has been for about a decade. I always saw that series as the brainchild of many people, until it wasn't and you have one guy given way too much authority. He was a great director, until he discovered lens flare.

That series got so bad I would welcome it returning knowing he wouldn't be apart of it.

Silent Hill has gone through many hands over the years. I'd like it to continue but everything now sucks. So there's that.

Would like another silent hill game like that fanmade source mod that came out about a decade ago. Silent hill: Alchemila.
There were no enemies in it but it kept the atmosphere and feeling of being followed by lovecraftian
monsters very well. Though the ending was rather abrupt. Don't recall there being any voice acting for it either.

Really believe that glowniggers have co-opted these kinds of inactive community accounts because the original developers were not russians/slavs. These fucking glowniggers wont stop spamming russian characters everywhere because they found the "change locale and language" feature in system settings. This is relevant because supposedly the same team went on to start another project. "Twin souls" that never went anywhere and suddenly now they are speaking fluent eastern european languages.

I never saw the game before. I might need to look into it. Skimming it I heard them use some type of mix of the Labyrinth theme from SH2. Makes me wonder how they butcher that place in the remake. I really, really doubt the piston room with Abstract Daddy will look even remotely like it did.

MSG 5 and even in rare lesser extent, 4 are the ones to blame for Kojima's holier than thou ego and his Hollywood-style summer blockbuster writing. Yes, he's great as a director, but not as a writer. He's the video game equivalent to someone like Roland Emmerich where he's good at directing, but at writing on his own.

Neither mgs 4 or mgs 5 have summer bluckbuster writing the fuck are you talking about?
Not to mention that he wasnt the sole writer on neither game, 4 had another scenario writer, and 5 had three.
And you know who is one of those writers? Shoju Murata, who has been a writer for the main scenarios of the games since 3.
I know that the writing in both isnt as good, but you are acting like kojima wasnt the one responsable for the games prior to 4.

Tomokazu Fukushima was the co writer in those. And as soon as he left, the whole tone and level of writing plummeted.
You do know that he only wrote optional codec calls did some edits in mgs2 right? Not sure about 1 and 3

I know he's responsible for codec calls, he also wrote Ghost Babel. His role never was fully explained, but he's one thing you can point to in post MGS3 that isn't there in MGS4 and there's clearly a downshift in the series. If Kojima was the genius he cosplays as, the writing wouldn't get that measurable worse when you lose a co writer that allegedly didn't contribute as much as they say.

Which is it tho? Was Fukushima the one holding the writing together or was the writing so bad even in mgs1 and 2 that the translators had to fix it? Would the story be terrible if I watch it in japanese? No because mgs1 got a more feithful translation in twin snakes and no one said shit about that, most people didnt even notice, and Mgs2 translator wasnt allowed to change anything by kojimas demands and some of the changes were even asked to be added by him and his team, like the "BeLIEve me" text at the end.
I am not claiming that Fukushima didnt have any part in making the games better, but I think you are blaming a problem that happens to most long running series that is just seasonal rot on one person leaving.

It doesn't even matter. Kojima is unequivically a bad writer right now. It's not a stretch that nothing has changed from back then. If Kojima was the true machine behind the series, him just being there wouldn't change the quality of it from game to game. One guy that was with the first three games leaves and then there's a dramatic change. It's an observation, that's all. No reason to sperg about it.

I think the bigger issue here is that Konami attempted to make Kojima a celebrity since Metal Gear on the MSX. Even back then they made him the face of the franchise and that's why people attribute everything about the series to him. Which, sounds absurd to anyone with common sense. I can somewhat agree with this, but I think the biggest problem is that his newer game just have a big lack of focus, and have way too many elements to the story and a lot end up having a lot less care put into them, mgs4, 5 and ds all have at least one aspect of the story that in my opinion was pretty good, mgs4 has the stuff about snakes age and struggle, 5 has huey and a lot of the first chapter, ds has most of the stuff with bb and cliff, if the stories had been solely focus on those aspects I am sure they would have been much better.
