Silent Hill

If anyone thinks the goober team SH2 remake is gonna be anything but a flaming bag of shit, then I have some swampland to sell you.
I'm really hoping it will buck the trend of the main plot being "someone died and the main character feels guilty about it"

The Order migrating overseas and finding another mystical power to pervert in some quaint Japanese village could make for some really good material. Japanese devs finally getting the reins back will at least give us some cool psychological horror to work with again.
Silent Hill 2 Remake and If I'm really skeptical about because I'm not sure how much Konami really understands the IP. They were the ones that killed it by uprooting the original creative team behind it. I'm really skeptical, I'm pretty sure they saw the success of the Resident Evil remakes and the revival that franchise had and just thought "Man, if only we had a franchise like that-- Oh yeah!"
So long without Silent Hill content and now we're getting a slew of them. I don't feel confident about it, them not getting Takayoshi Sato or Hiroyuki Owaku back to supervise the story/direction of the game is a mistake. I don't think they'll capture what made Silent Hill stand out from Resident Evil, which I think is funny because it basically means the series went full circle. It went back to riding off Resident Evil's success.

Well there was technically one game with SH name that did that but well...
Also was that turd canon back then or now? Because oh boy the writer(s) went full retard: https://www.silenthillmemories.net/sh_book_of_memories/notes_en.htm
A lot of these notes indicates that the books in the game responsible for a lot of what happened in the series

The other American SH had issues too but this is another level

What makes it most worrying is that they announce 4 new games from a bunch of no-name studios. Biggest one being Bloober Team, but they don’t have the best reputation. With the popularity of horror games now, they’re trying to cash in on it but it’s by just giving silent hill to other studios and saying “go for it.” Does this remind anyone of 2007-2012? (But at least Climax did kinda decent with silent hill)

The only good thing about the second SH movie was the mannequin spider monster, I guess.
The movie is well made with the visuals and effects but the script is dumb, the whole Centralia thing reeks of "the writer found this on Google and thought it was cool" even though it has nothing to do with the game.
I'm pretty sure that's what it was. An old draft was going to make The Order related to a dead real life religion, that made my eyes roll.

Technically, none of the games after 4 are canon.

You could probably make a case for Homecoming and Downpour being canon, although I’d say I agree with you about only the first 4 being canon, but Origins is a complete contradiction in itself. (And god I fucking hate that game for fucking up silent hill canon)

That trailer and the impressions it gave people very much feels like an IQ test, and most people failed it. It already appears to be the most by the numbers, soulless cash grab. It hits every beat of what the game is, but does it in such a way that they clearly don't understand it at all. Like you really need a ballpein hammer but you hitting it with a sledgehammer.

Team Silent were experts on subtle, cerebral horror and western devs are completely incapable of doing that.

The visuals alone are nauseating. Over animated ugly virgin vs the chad wife killer.

The use of deep shadows and eye gleam in the original's cutscenes always came off as very threatening and unnerving to me.

Ain't sure how to feel about all this stuff personally., just irritated that Christophe Gans is adapting SH2 as a movie...He really didn't do a good job the first time around outside of capturing the look of the game. I still can't believe how bad the script for the first film was, much less the fact it was written by an Oscar winner but adapting SH2 as a movie and a game for the current year?

Marry and Laura are going to be black now in the film cause diversity, Eddies gonna be retconned to being gay, Angela will be trans or something and the soul of the story will be sacrificed.

I'm already hearing that the SH2 remakes..."horror" is going to be toned down for the current audience out there. I'm assuming that means Pyramid heads rape scenes will get neutered or the suicide angles of the characters will get toned down. Remaking Silent Hill 2 should be one of the easiest things to do:

Add a few new supplemental story scenes, leave the original story ALONE.
Expand a few of the settings so they're a little larger(hospital, SH historical society)
Put in a little extra lore about the settings.
Few new puzzles.
A new enemy or two that
Add in 1 new setting area to explore around.
Adjust the gameplay a lil bit and hope for the best.

Hit publish and let people enjoy. This is exactly what Capcom did for REmake 2002 and thats still the gold standard for remaking a video game. I guess the only thing to do is wait and see how much they massacre the game:/

That was very much a different time. That was made when RE still had much of the original dev team still employed with Capcom, and it had the same director as RE1.

I'd only trust SH2 was Team Silent, but that would never happen.

And I for one don't see the point in remaking something that is already perfect as is.

Same reason as to why American game devs and movie directors chose to cram Pyramid Head and nurses in games and movies where they don't fit lore-wise. Attracting consumers in hopes of higher income :(

Well a western dev is developing SH2R, so you can expect every single monster to be mishandled.

The trailer hits all the beats of the original, but it's hitting them with a sledgehammer. Westerners don't understand subtly.

After the years since PT, I'd honestly hoped Silent Hill was just going to quietly fade away and be forgotten. I've pretty much pretended the series died after SH4, and every Winter I light the fire, turn the lights off and play through the first three, sort of a Christmas tradition since my teenage years.

I could have had a whole tard-rant about the latest announcements, but I can't even say they made me feel that much. Everything they announced just looks boring and devoid of anything resembling soul.

Oof.

What scare factors are tehre to fix? Silent HIll was fun because it was the atmosphere it relied on and not tons of jump scares.
Yes, but it talks about “uncomfortable subjects” like suicide and sex and such, and that might offend people, so it has to be dialed back to avoid triggering anyone!

That’s how I’m reading it, anyway. They’re gonna dial back the atmosphere and everything because “current year”.

Yet all the retards in YT comments have been eating it up. I never knew wanting a remake was a thing until this trailer dropped.

Atmosphere and extreme themes are the heart of why SH2 is the best of the series... so to reel that in is just more typical modern gaming bullshit. Can't offend trannies with suicide, like they all aren't going to kick the chair out eventually anyway.
