Silent Hill

They forgot to include the microtransactions and DLC popups but other then that it looks legit to me.

On the topic of retarded takes about Silent Hill, wanna hear a funny one?

The movie is better than the game because it is nowhere near as complicated as the game.

I'm dead serious, there's a whole video "essay" that unironically goes over this stupid take.
That complicated shit is what has people talking to this day

Unrelated but i remember liking the first movie when it came out, not sure how it holds up

Second one i brought a date to when it came out, she had no idea what Silent Hill was. God... I was so embarrased afterwards when we left the theater..

It does a good job of capturing the atmosphere of the games and faithfully brings a lot of the creatures to life, but has virtually nothing in common with the games on a story front and the director was sort of a retard. Makin Harry a woman after 'analyzing his videogame character and realizing... it's a woman!' Is the most boneheaded explanation for a gender swap I've ever heard. Like a dad isn't infinitely more likely to wade into Hell for his daughter than a woman.
If anyone thinks the goober team SH2 remake is gonna be anything but a flaming bag of shit, then I have some swampland to sell you.
To he fair Boober are noted plagiarists so having another game they can copy 1:1 might help. Like I said, it will most likely be an okay survival horror game and nothing else. Anyone hoping for Silent Hill to recapture the glory days misunderstands, it was lightning in a bottle, we will never get another series like it ever again.

It looks infinitely better than that other one they announced at least, which is clearly just going for more therapist town punishment shit.

That was such an odd explanation that i cant even comprehend, its even more notable now when "Selfless Father Figure" is one of the most, if not the most popular character trope today

I went to the cinema to see that absolute pile of shit in 3D.
I watched it on TV once at my parents through their On Demand streaming service at the time and legitimately felt embarrassed for everyone involved in it. The first movie isn't perfect, not by a long shot, but it at least felt like someone cared. Especially with the nearly 1:1 recreation on the strange camera movements in the alley way. The special effects were mostly incredible too.

The first movie was a genuine attempt to capture the game visually and artistically but had an incredible misunderstanding of the narrative. They tapped a Frenchman to make the movie which made it a more atmospheric and cerebral horror film. They handed the sequel to a bunch of mutts and thus you got a generic slasher film.

The SH2 remake doesn't interest me that much since I never played the series expecting spectacular combat and that's the only thing SH2 is lacking, but Silent Hill f will have a new story that could be interesting. I loved the Siren games, so if it ends up just as creepy I'll be pleased.

I'm really hoping it will buck the trend of the main plot being "someone died and the main character feels guilty about it"

The Order migrating overseas and finding another mystical power to pervert in some quaint Japanese village could make for some really good material. Japanese devs finally getting the reins back will at least give us some cool psychological horror to work with again.

The movie is well made with the visuals and effects but the script is dumb, the whole Centralia thing reeks of "the writer found this on Google and thought it was cool" even though it has nothing to do with the game.

And the GWB era satire of changing The Order from Rosemary's Baby style occultists to witch burning Christians was also dumb.

And I hate the way the movie eclipses the actual games, 99% of the time cosplay is of movie nurse or movie PH, which is lame and the movie is probably what gave Konami the idea to hand over the series to western developers.

As for the second movie, I didn't see it, don't really care to, I like to pretend it doesn't exist, fun fact, the director of the second movie trooned out.

If 2 is Silent Hill but with good mechanics, some twists, and solid atmosphere then I'm on board. It's not like Silent Hill as an IP hasn't just been copying the 2nd game over and over anyway. I'd have personally been more excited for a remake of the 1st game, but eh, take what I can get these days I guess.
I'm not surprised, 2, despite being over 20 years old, is a lot more technologically advanced than the PS1 original, so it'd be easier to update.

A remake of the first game would have to be so from the ground up it's not even funny.

Personally I'm more interested in revisiting South Vale than Paleville anyway tbh, but maybe if SH2 Remake actually turns out to be a success, a remake of the first game is in order.

I just feel like a SH1 remake would be more difficult to fuck up and fit in a lot more with current year, but maybe a dad looking for his child is played out too much these days.

It would be an entirely ground up remake yeah, but that's what they're doing with 2 anyway, and that game is such an iconic piece of videogame history that trying to remake it feels almost sacrilegious. 1 doesn't have the same level of prestige.

I would play a remake of 4, actually. Ive seen a lot of people coming around on it recently but ive always maintained it as a solid SH game (my favorite one actually)

Theres just so much ambience and mood in that game, and the backstory and lore is very interesting, like reading about all of Walter's victims, his childhood, why he has that obsessions with room 302...

With the boom True Crime stuff has been getting lately, a remake of SH4 could be well received, you're basically playing through a serial killer's murder spree while finding and documenting what caused him to become what he is

In the SH2 movie they’ll genderswap James. Behold, Jamie Sunderland!

Yea, the first Silent Hill movie, while fundamentally flawed, was still a pretty decent horror movie (let alone based on a video game, making it one of the better video game movies I've ever seen), The sequel will always be a dumpster fire that felt more like an episode of Scooby-Doo than a fucking Silent Hill movie.
