The ~Aesthetic~ thread - General thread for aesthetic trends including but not limited to fashion, art, and home design.

I'll admit it, I unironically love the southern/Midwestern gothic look.
Molding old farm houses that were once charming.
Mom and pop shops with kitschy store fronts.
Vast open expanses of nothingness.
Decaying small towns draped in an air of dread.
Random religious signs that are weird and creepy for no reason.

And I love all of it.
Thanks to you I just found some interesting playlists.

My town has neighborhood filled with large Victorian houses. There's one in particular that I've always said I'd sell my soul to live in. I would love to show it off, but it wouldn't be a good idea with the rep this site has.
They were still at it a year ago:
Gotta respect them for going all in. This is clearly something they actually care about.

Very cool. A couple I know bought a run-down antique house (maybe Victorian, I'm unsure) and spent years (and hundreds of thousands of dollars) restoring it to look exactly like it did when it was new. Even the interior looks original. They hid modern conveniences like dishwashers and washer/dryers behind false cabinets, and it obviously has electricity.

They won awards from the city and even made the newspaper. That's some autism. They had to do all kinds of research into what colors the exterior had, as well as the interior. I think they spent a good number of years just on that step.

Whenever someone says "I can't do [X] because I'm in group [Y]" it just seems like they aren't willing to fight for what they want to do, or they maybe just don't want to do it at all and are using "I can't" as an excuse.
Whenever they say that they're just lying. They want to pretend to be oppressed for attention and so that they can lash out and attack the usual targets because they are dishonest, miserable people. Black American women in 2023 are objectively the most spoiled, privledged black people that have ever existed and all of their complaints are retarded. Wypipo are wearing makeup a certain way and stole the concept of hoop earrings from you? Woah, that's wild. We shoud give 5 million dollars in reparations to all the survivors.

My personal aesthetic starts with Suburban Gothic and has lots of added stuff relevant to my interests and needs, so it's unlikely anyone else is the same.
...Of course, in the event that I meet someone with this exact same aesthetic, we are required to fight to the death.
Winner gets possession of the loser's collection of empty margarine tubs and mayo jars.
Any demographic wanna claim they did this shit first? I'll gladly let them take the blame.

Is it really? My little relatives all have a variety of stuff in their house, but I always thought the monotone stuff was to prevent overstimulation or something.
Yes, one of the first ways children learn to distinguish and categorise objects is through colour. Babies particularly can't see much at all, as vision develops slowly in the first year. They have an easier time focusing on something that is bright and high contrast. You start with primary colours and then introduce more complex hues and gradients.

The kids of these women aren't gonna be able to tell the difference between red and orange lmao.

If overstimulation is an issue, you can use soft lighting, limit screen time and only have a few toys out at once. There's no need to deny them colour.

Men, you don't get a pass in all this:
(I actually like QOVES a lot, fashion and appearance is his special interest.)

Hella neat.
Also, because of this post I just learned there's an app called Baby See that shows you what your baby sees based on their age:

I'm gonna recommend it to my friends now.

I sometimes get nostalgic over late 90s and Y2k, it feels like it went archaic almost inmediatly but consider how sterile the forced minimalism of the late 00s and the degeneracy of the 010s and its actually endearing in comparison. Glossy, transparent, colorful cyberspace, curvy shapes, actual buttons, etc

In that case, these are for you:

First clip girl could have made some actual commentary but said nothing because social media is full of vapid retards, so I'll do so for her. I can see some ability to combine the features of the first three trends, harder to do so with cabin features, but the first few are identical other than color. Then you have such contrasting themes of the latter ones and it just becomes confusing. Then you realize that houses have different rooms. How could you not just do all of these if you were a richfag? If you're not, as most people are not it's a bit of an issue but such a non problem that I don't know why you'd make a post about it.

Just so y'all know, there is an Aesthetics Wiki.
This is a wonderful timesink, thank you. I'm too old and I have no patience for Pinterest, but it's interesting to see all the different styles in an easily browsable format.

I completely forgot that I've come across one of the cringier ones on there in the wild until this jogged my memory. The "liminal spaces set to music compilation" trend is kind of like a comfy modern extension of old urbex journals to me but it's infested with the traumacore people.

From what I can tell, the aesthetic seems to be mainly zoomer proanas who missed tumblr by a few years and were diddled in Soviet apartments by Courtney Love and Hello Kitty.

Child development is endlessly fascinating. I love learning about it. Also I'm gonna have to try that app.

I too really miss the aesthetic of 90s/00s when tech companies actually gave a shit about style. Chunky, tactile and fun. I also really miss clear tech.

What do you call this sort of art inspired by Celtic design and things like illuminated texts? Is there anything else that even does it beyong Cartoon Saloon's work?
(Also, on that note, how can I find more music like Bruno Coulais'?)

This gives me an ache in my soul for inflatable chairs and a clear purple corded phone.
Atomic Purple Gameboy was peak product design.

In general I don't find anything wrong with the aesthetic thing and can kind of get the appeal of having a unified concept for your wardrobe and decor but this also definitely feels like "here's some personalities for you to pick from here at the personality store."

Anyway uh some of these are not what I expected

Clowncore fashion often includes - badges or jewelry with childlike slogans such as "I jump in puddles" or "I got dressed today"

I do not like clowncore. I find it very ugly and way too loud and bright.

If you want to see even more of ME check out catalyst. Keeps a lot of the aesthetic, loses a bit of that authentic 2000s version because it was released in the mid 2010s but it's pretty faithful and adds to it in interesting ways.
