WotC has determined this to be hateful conduct and that you are, indeed, subject to the re-re-revised OGL 1.3.6.9 which invalidates all previous licenses and binds to it all TTRPGs as, per the license, all TTRPGs in existence are derivative of WotC IP thereby making them WotC IP as per OGL 1.3.6.9.

My theory:
SJWing/Wokeism was never about meaningful structural reform of the social system. It was about being able to continue enjoying the benefits of the system without feeling guilt. It's a ritualistic cleansing, like catholic reconciliation.

WoTC might not understand it, but they know as long as they conduct themselves like a member of the faith, the faithful will come to their defense. In an age of unlimited information, it's useful to have a large group of people you can manipulate based on belief, not sway by facts.

The only possible hitch I notice is that the new CC version of the SRD is specifically the 5E one - while this isn't surprising considering that they haven't released a newer version yet, that doesn't mean that OneDnD or whatever they're calling it won't launch with a new OGL for it specifically.

Still, its legit, its out there already so they can't really backtrack on the CC part at least now.

They must be in absolute panic mode right now to backtrack so hard. Wonder if it was to save the beyond subs, or the movie - If its the later, they're already fucked, because it just doesn't look all that good to most normies I talk with.

Dunno how many people are gonna just take it on their word that they’re gonna leave the original OGL untouched. I don’t believe releasing the 5e SRD under an irrevocable CC license is the same thing as making the original OGL irrevocable, and until that is ensured I still don’t see people taking any chances with it.

Unlikely. Opening the 5E SRD to a CC license also means it can be used without restraint in commercial products, so there's nothing to come back from, you can easily do both and still avoid any edition of the OGL. All they have to do is leave in the CC Attribution to Wizards, which I doubt will be a problem.

Cheap in-house counsel is going to still run you $2/minute. As an individual you have many rights in court that corporations simply lack, meaning they will carry significant expense per-case to fight it. Even if they get the judgement, collecting is another whole expensive can of worms to open. It's the kind of shit that would gum up the works so much that if it was really worthwhile pursuing, it'd be more worthwhile to cut expenses and reduce headcount in the legal department.

Kind of like those jackasses that tried to trademark "react" videos. They had a good thing going, with more than adequate protection, and fundamentally may not fully have the rights to the protection they previously enjoyed. Moving to change the rules like this unilaterally is spitting in the face of everyone else that was playing nice. The Leviathan is aggro and now everyone else in the industry cannot afford playing nice in the face of that existential threat. I doubt this rises to the level of a firm-killing blunder, but it is certainly a blunder. It's hard to conceive of how they can even turn this into a neutral outcome.
