I always flew through EWR when in the area and there are hotels there that are surprisingly not bad, but JFK's a different story.

International flights are $200-$400 cheaper flying out of JFK than Newark. JFK has fine hotels, average is about $150-200 a night.

That's the hardest part for me to get past. It's a very big deal to cause enough of a disturbance for a plane to do a u-turn on the runway to go back and throw you off. It's a major thing for the airport too. Everything about an airport runs on a kind of JIT (just-in-time delivery) in order for the schedule to be kept and throwing one of the things out of line screws everything up. Plus the pissed off passengers and bad optics of passengers Tweeting about the bad experience. Hard to fathom they just give the same guy who caused all of that a do-over the next day. On the other hand we do live in bizarro world now and maybe people get tossed off the plane a lot more often than I think. The airlines are hurting too so maybe they didn't want to lose the revenue from a return trip?

All that said I would've bet money that he would've been banned from Delta at minimum.

The airport hotels aren't overly expensive. Taking an uber into Jersey is going to cost you $100 on its own, and depending on where you go, you are going to find more upscale hotels than shithole motels. The towns over the GW are some of the most expensive places in NJ. Going through the Lincoln brings you to Hoboken and the Meadowlands area, both aren't cheap areas but with football season being over it is definitely cheaper now. Going through the Holland Tunnel takes you into Jersey City, and the waterfront where the bulk of the hotels are, is crazy expensive. There are definitely some nasty motels sprinkled into the mix especially as you leave Jersey City though.
