sad thing is i actually skimmed the original comics run from 2011 and while its pretty by the book that run could have made for an average nothing special not too bad western cartoon. I assumed you were talking about El Tigre as it is way less popular and got shitcanned way faster than Zim. Plus it was within the same period as Mighty B. My bad, Vasquez completely left my mind when writing.
Jorge Gutierrez (director of The Book of Life and creator of Maya and The Three) created it, so that's most likely why. Still better than the alternative though
