In one of his countless streams Scott says his stepson "chose death" because every time he was dropped off for rehab, he told them "I'm just gonna go right back to drugs and drinking the minute I get out. I'd rather die than live In a world where I can't drink and get high with my friends" so he did.
This likely explains Scott's nihilism regarding young men and recovery. You can't really help someone who doesn't even want to help himself, no matter if you do everything YOU can.
Scott seems to have extrapolated from his own experience that helping ANY young man recover is a lost cause, and any personal testimony of "My Dad got me off drugs" or "I helped my son quit and he's been clean 15 years" is anecdotal hearsay to be met with "Well whoopdy fuckin' doo for you that you think you can teach squirrels basketball!"
