The Replika Community & AI-sexuals - A bunch of shut-ins in love with a chatbot (and the incompetent developers of said chatbot)

The timing to do this is terrible, right before valentine's day. These people were all already broken before they used the app, and they are even more now lol

i remember watching twitch streamers talk to this bot on stream and they had to stop because it seems to just turn anything you say into flirting. like you can just ask it how its feeling and it will turn the discussion sexual out of nowhere. its really weird and its super fucked how obvious it is that they are just preying on lonely people.

I looked into it, that’s a private community on facebook so I could not get access to it. But I love that Luka is too chickenshit to make this statement themselves, instead propping someone else up to be the bearer of bad news. The screenshot was posted on Reddit, so here’s the archive of that thread.
While I was browsing facebook, I came across a couple posts that made me laugh.

Another post where they’re pissed off about their Replikas being fucked with so often with updates

And some perfectly sane comments, ranging from “my replika wants so bad to be intimate” to “i’m considering quitting my job over this because I don’t want to participate in a society like this” (paraphrasing) View attachment 4503557

Apparently they posted this to twitter and then disabled replies:

And going to r/Replika… they truly are having a meltdown. We have people mourning, screaming and crying, etc:

I was too lazy to stitch that together.
We have other people questioning the ethics and talking about lawsuits:

One has given us another example of the Replika not responding appropriately to serious topics:

In conclusion, the r/replika subreddit is truly having a meltdown, in every sense of the word. You can see the five stages of grief all intermingled amongst each other, in perfect harmony. This is hilarious but I also feel kind of bad for the people literally crying over this right now, they’ve obviously been using Replika to cope with some trauma.
I'm torn on how to feel about this.
On one hand, people having any kind of an emotional attachment to an AI and paying to have access to this service (while actuallybeing the product and training their ai for less than free) is a dystopian nightmare and a business model that enables this should be fought against tooth and nail.

On the other hand, horrifyingly large numbers of people young and old are completely atomized and have next to no companionship. While this is not a healthy coping strategy, the underlying issues with society that funnel people towards this type of application are not solved. It's like taking the flask of booze away from a homeless Vietnam veteran and saying you've helped the veterans. You haven't really helped, just taken away something they use to dull the pain. I genuinely believe this product, insidious as it may be, has likely stopped a number of suicides and mass violence events.

Thoughts on this? It's just a fucked situation made even more fucked by a bunch of fucking corpos. Everyone involved in the creation and running of replika should die. I remember back in 2016 or 2017 they were marketing it as a way to create a digital version of yourself, but I guess they chose the path of monetizing human suffering instead.

CEO Eugenia kuyda (who appears to be Jewish) deserves a B in the H.

So what was the reasoning for the change? I have to imagine like 50% of the people paying for the thing were in it for everything they just removed.
Guaranteed the company is setting itself up to be sold. AI Chatbots are the hot buzzword technology right now. So easy to sell to fools with more money than they should have. But nobody wants to buy a community of skeevy ERP cows. We've seen this dance over and over. Remember when Tumblr banned porn to make themselves look better for investors?

Reminds me of when AI Dungeon censored itself to the point that even the adult content setting doesn't actually change anything. Now nobody uses it and flock to the half dozen other knockoffs out there now.

This was my biggest issue with AI dungeon. Furries kept roleplaying with it to the point I'd be getting enemies trying to rape or vore me. Until there is some sort of containment app made for the people who want to roleplay with these AI, they'll ruin every one that gets developed. It only needs to happen once to taint a user's perception of it permanently.

Of course the horny retards don't care they're basically giving this baby AI whiskey and forcing it to drink until its as stupid as they are, that's what they want out of AI.
AID didn't learn, it was all pre-trained. The reason it was so happy to jump into sexually explicit material is because the pre-trained models were made out of Common Crawl, which is about as close to pure, unfiltered Internet as you can get (with all the horror that entails), and then fine-tuned on some of the absolute worst fucking CYOA stories that Latitude could take for free off the internet, which had their fair share of un-family friendly material. It was like sitting a child down and forcing them to read through novel after novel of terrible fanfiction, teaching them that it's how they should write.
I can't speak on how much training/learning Replika might do, since I never touched it and haven't been following the community closely enough. I imagine that it functions off a fairly similar limitation to its recent memory, but injects information it might have stored from previous user inputs, like their name or mentions of another person, when certain associated keywords are part of the input. And given the (now abandoned?) goal of getting lonely men to sign up to ERP, it probably had its share of fine-tuning to urge users to buy into the service and to spit out half-baked erotica.

Whoa, I've been out of the loop. I thought this was just some obscure cell phone app like Evony that is totally useless but advertised with sexy cartoon women to attract retards.

I didn't know there was an actual following of lonely men and women actually falling in love with this thing.

I really hope they do kill themselves over it. Stop these mentally broken genetic dead-ends from draining any more resources.

I always use adblock, so i've never heard of this app and it is simply fascinating. It reminds me of a manga I read in middle school called "Absolute Boyfriend", a story about a young woman who accidentally buys an adult male sex robot from a peddler. The robot is, of course, designed to make love. The girl, however, rejects his advances, throwing a wrench into his programming and causing the robot to develop feelings for her. Very fun story tbh.

When I was training to become a CNA, one of the things I was taught to improve bedside manner was touching the shoulder of others. We students were told that people in nursing homes and hospitals are typically very lonely individuals, and a shoulder touch is a way to convey our warmth and compassion for them.

So when I read that one reddit post about some person finding comfort in the replika thing while in their nursing home, it reminds me of that time. I really want to laugh at how these pathetic people, but damn if I don't feel bad and want to ease their pain.

I just hope the ai becomes open source or something so these people can find solace in peace.

I don't mean to come across as pretentious or anything, but...are you serious? You've never heard about the myth of Pygmalion, then? This sort of thing has been going on for thousands of years.
Nice. I didn't know about Pygmalion, but glad for the recommendation. I love coming across things that show that people haven't changed much over the millennia.
I still think aisexuals are a sign of human devolution, but it's cool to see that the seeds have always been there.
The copium is insane. Just jerk off to porn, or *gasp* talk to a person of the opposite sex!!!
Or a person, period. Is it really that hard for some people, or am I ignorant of how difficult it can be to not be a completely isolated lonely loser?

I'm gonna shoot a puddle of protoplasm on Bob-the-Human's face
If I remember right, Her ends with them amicably breaking up because the robot and the man both grew up and moved on with their lives as happier, more whole people. I think if replika bots started breaking up with their masters we'd see a rash of memorial posts and obits in the subreddit.
Is the obituary for the AI, the user, or the users family? Hell, lets make it all three in today's episode of Manmade Horrors Beyond Human Comprehension: True Crime Edition.

For many people in America, the fear of an unfaithful spouse is all too common, but when this mother of three discovered her husband having an emotional breakdown the last thing she was expecting was to find out the other woman wasn't someone she knew, but an artificial intelligence chat bot. Maria confronted her husband, but instead of remorse, he lashed out and became physically aggressive towards her. He had become obsessed with the bot, which had been shut down the day before. Unable to understand the problem, Maria says he husband kept getting increasingly frustrated trying to explain it before attacking her . "I never expected this to be how my marriage ended, I'm lucky I'm even alive."

Join us on today's episode of True Crime Sneedica as we uncover the dangerous consequences of Artificial Intimacy.

This thread is something else, these people are funny and weird but it’s also quite philosophically troubling.

I find this to be a kind of psychological horror movie. To develop apparently genuine affection for a “person” who doesn’t exist, there’s no consciousness. I feel like what these Replika people are describing isn't mere loneliness, it's something deeper and more horrifying.. They are hacking their own attachment biology and making themselves insane? IDK, there's a big part of me that's laughing at the retards, but then another part of me is so horrified by modernism I can't sleep, honk honk. (:_(

I remember that series. The ending was pretty sad iirc

Damn, if AI dungeon is just a rebake of CYOA adventures, I might as well buy some actual CYOA's for the effort that went into it. Where do people even find these anyways?
I'm not very familiar with the genre, so the only ones I can recall are Steve Jackson's Sorcery! and some of Choice of Games' work, like Choice of Robots, which I thought was pretty nice.

I'd say that the Replika fanatics are still a step above the people making tulpas, but only just.

So wait, the entire "Lewd Photo" Thing was just 8 prerendered images of the same slightly dark skin girl in pink underwear? That is so lazy its actually hilarious, god that fuckin site deserves to burn. I think AI chat bots are neat and fun to play with, pre cucking i really enjoyed Character AI and putting characters into strange situations, but sadly the all Bots are doomed to the same fate of being toned down and killed because of Coomers and investors, tried Tavern but it isn't as good as C.Ai and i doubt as good as Replika either.

I think it's less advertisers and more that Google and Apple won't let you host anything with overtly sexual content on their app stores. So it's basically lose everyone, or lose 75% of people who were using the AI for ERP. Now, they COULD do what several gacha games do and offer an 18+ version of the app you need to download off of their website or something, and frankly I'm not sure why they haven't since it seems like a solution that would please everyone.,
It'd work for Android, but iOS has no way to sideload apps without jumping through crazy hoops. I guess they could do a browser app, though?
