The few times I remember watching the Disney Channel at a friend's house (our cable system didn't have it) was during the 90s, before they went all in on the tween sitcoms and stuff and seemed to be genuinely confused about what to do with their channel. It all seemed very safe and wienery, like Nickelodeon with all the hip 90s edge ditched. I'm not against family friendly entertainment, far from it, but this seemed completely neutered- which is funny when you think that so many of Disney's animated films veer into some territory that's darker and scarier for younger children.
The only good thing I remember was DuckTales reruns, and I could get on Channel 5. Everything else seemed way too defanged. This was an era when I was staying up late to watch Beavis and Butt-head, I can't watch a fucking Little Mermaid animated series.
Disney Channel fans were losers.
Disney Channel was pretty cool in the 90s, like I said I got to see some cool older movies I probably wouldn't have otherwise and enjoyed some of the cartoons they aired, they also had the "Disney Vault" which would air old shows like Zorro, though you're right that channels like Nick were cooler.
But I bailed HARD when they introduced the teen sitcoms despite supposedly being the age group they were aimed at, they were painfully lame.
And yeah, I hate to think of any 90s kid that didn't sneak in some edgier affair late at night, like Beavis & Butthead, Celebrity Death Match or the highly obscure Cartoon Sushi (and later the earliest days of Adult Swim)
Hell, I would even watch a little of Howard Stern's E airings of his radio show sometimes as a kid.
You were a mental midget if you didn't have at least some curiosity about the adult world as a kid and it's no surprise that those that didn't grew up to be very stunted adults.
A good portion of them view it as their great cultural conquest. Them going is their victory lap. Especially the gay men who hang out at Disney.
There's a certain subset of gay men who base their personalities around Disney villains, especially Ursula.
Growing up they saw these "queer coded" villains trying to get between a heterosexual romance and sympathized a little too much and now here we are, they are villains actively trying to destroy heterosexuality.
And all the more infuriating that Disney's hated enemies are now dancing on his grave and gloating over how they've corrupted the company that bears his name.
Disney adults and Disney derangement syndrome are two sides of the same coin, and come from the same sociopolitical camp. Woke leftists, neo-marxists, and confused liberals who think that they're commies.
Yes, like I said it's obvious when these people obsess over "Disney" it's Eisner era and Iger era and they actually have a lot of contempt for Walt and his era.
What's worrying is the Magic Kingdom and Disneyland can actually be seen as odes to white people's triumph over the world, Mainstreet USA is a celebration of the "good old days" when whites had absolute racial hegemony which was already starting to slip away in the 50s and gone by 1971, Adventureland is all about "gee, aren't non-white cultures exotic, foreign and weird?" with the original Pirates of The Caribbean depicting English pirates brutalizing Spanish colonists.
Frontierland is of course a celebration of the white man's triumph over the west, New Orleans square celebrates what was the heart of the NA slave trade, Liberty Square celebrates those slave owners that founded the US, the Haunted Mansion celebrates either Victorian era New England which was a racist era or a literal plantation home (REALLY racist)
Fantasyland celebrates "Eurocentric" folklore and architecture and Tomorrowland celebrates the next great step in the white man's endless game of conquest and colonization, space!
All this literally revolving around a "Eurocentric" image of a European castle towering over everything (well in Florida at least) as if to say this small world after all revolves around what whites can achieve.
It's starting with Splash Mountain being replaced because it's "racist" but the whole fucking parks can be viewed as racist by Woke standards, so it might not stop until the whole thing is demolished and replaced with "Wakanda: The Theme Park"
And remember, if you say one word about cultural genocide of white heritage, you're racist.
The people that claim to be Disney's biggest fans would stand by and applaud and cheer if Walt's biggest achievement got bulldozed and demolished completely.
And if you think that's extreme, imagine if Wokeness, which by it's nature keeps ramping things up, is never stopped and goes on for decades, then it's a question of when and not if, it'll be a miracle if Disneyland actually makes it to 100.
A subtype I haven't seen mentioned yet are the Epcot obsessives. I don't have any links off the top of my head, but they exclusively see Walt as a futurist genius and don't care about anything else he did, like animation or even theme parks in general. Expect constantly talking about how when they were 2 years old Epcot made them understand that they had to make the future just like it and big time sperging about Horizons being demolished.
Yes, the Epcot obsessives are a special breed, to be fair, one thing that's made Walt such a legendary figure is the idea of him trying to build his own city and dying before it could be completed, it's one of the most fascinating "what if?" questions of the modern age.
But I remember thinking the Epcot we got was somewhat lame when I visited it as a kid, I didn't hate it, but people are more in love with the idea than the reality of the park, Horizons was a pretty cool ride but it's closure doesn't compare to the closure of the 20K Under The Sea ride which I think is Disney's biggest blunder in that regard, all the rides were so much exciting than Epcot's at the other parks.
Again, I didn't hate it, I do remember World Showcase being pretty interesting (but not as interesting as say ghosts or pirates), the coolest thing about Epcot is what the original plans were and not the actual park.
I've become terrified of enjoying anything anymore because of this like this. I fell in love with the Disney parks on an aesthetic level around the turn of the millennium (I'm one of those nerds who can rattle off technical and effects trivia about how different gags are done on each ride), I was in theater for decades, I collect vinyl, I was a huge comic book nerd when I was younger, played D&D in middle school -- and every one of these joys has been pounded into a fine mist by insufferable childless AWFLs and their purse-puppy besties and soyfilled husbandsons. These fat, shrieking harpies have ruined something joyous and wonderful that should have been preserved for real families and kids at heart for generations, and now it's just one more money sponge for horrible white women and whatever their current sociopolitical shiny object happens to be. I am so tired of these ghoulish, nasty people ruining everything good and magical and happy about the world and I long for a real cultural fire (in Minecraft, and not literally) to exorcise these doughy demons from our pop cultural landscape once and for all.
I used to be really big into all this stuff, it's heart breaking to see everything that was cool be corrupted piece by piece.
It's hard not to be harsh and say that women are to blame, as all this stuff became more feminized, either with actual females or feminized males, feminized in
attitude it's only gotten worse and stupider.
No woman in history achieved something like what Walt did and no one ever will, only men have a certain drive to build things of a certain scale, a feminized civilization is one that's on it's way out.
On top of all that, Disney greenlit movies and TV shows hosted by Heinz Haber, Wernher von Braun, and Alexander de Seversky. All presented as entertainment.
It's getting harder and harder not to think that those guys were in the right and we'd be living in Walt's vision of a rocket powered future if intellectualization in the western world was coming from a more sauerkraut angle and less a pastrami one, if you know what I mean.
The specimens on display in this thread are perfect examples of just how fundamentally wrong things have gone, Walt wanted people to have fun, but he also wanted his media to educate people, inspire them to be productive and work on a better future and take away good, tried and true moral lessons away from his movies.
This has been replaced by fat people complaining they're too fat for the parks, Walt would probably tell these people to get the fuck out of his park.
