"Oh that makes him more human" as if Game Joel wasnt human too. Problem is that being "human" and trying to defuse a situation like that wont lead you to survive 20 years in an post apocalypse. Gramps already tried to kill them so they is already grounds of not even trying to reason with him. And even if he did, what you going to do? Tie him up or something? Game Joel would just see a threat and end it accordingly because they would do the same to him and those he cares for.

Series Joel behaves inconsistently for a man that had the smarts and killer instinct to stay alive for over 20 years.

Joel in the game was a human Terminator that didn't trust anyone. He walled all his emotions off from everyone. It took him nearly a year to finally even open up to Ellie and not just treat her as a burden. The little I know about TLOU2, he was softened up a lot.

You know, its official, after speaking with my mother and seeing her crazy for this series, it just hit me.

This series is meant for people that cant take video games seriously as a medium and never will. She stopped at the part Joel got hurt and passed out and she kept asking me what happened next, I gave in and showed her the footage from the game and she looked bored out of her mind and desinterested all the sudden. Its clear the story almost doesnt matter much anymore because its not "live action" anymore. She legit said (tho she may have been joking) that she prefers Live action Bill over Game Bill.

Im done feeling pity on these basic bitch normies, they deserve Part 2 when that shit comes

They're just making him inconsistently written, we already knew they were shit writers but how many times are they going to go over the plot of the first game that people actually liked and make it worse?

Two people wrote for Joel in the games. One wrote him in the first game where he is a ruthless survival expert. And can kill enemies and live off of the land for decades. And another separate person wrote him in the second game where he is a pushover and incapable and instantly is killed by enemies that would not have been a threat in the previous game. And then he ultimately dies because he is not using his survival skills to keep himself alive.

The problem here is that the person writing the second game version of Joel, is now responsible for adapting the first game onto the show. So he is using his own personal version of Joel that was inept and dumb. The neutered crybaby retard and constant screwup. But his backstory of being a super hardcore survivalist now clashes with his behavior in the current timeline. So you have this weird cognitive dissonance where Joel is described as being "capable" yet literally never shows it. In basically every situation he has been ambushed or caught off guard now and had to be saved by someone else. Almost every episode now has some moment where Joel is a second or inch away from dying or letting Ellie die because of his carelessness.

I never played the games. But from what I read in the wikis, it seems that Joel is basically being retconned to match the dumb version of himself that gets golf clubbed. And that this is how the current writing team always wanted to write him in the first one but were overruled by the other writers who no longer work in the franchise.

I mean, give HBO this, at least Curb Your Enthusiasm is the only good show running today, and that's one of the network's longest running show.
