Japan shows how much better and efficient a country can be when it's mostly homogenous, everything's cleaner, better maintained, people care more about whatever it is they're doing than the US.

Meanwhile the US is turning into one great big broken down ghetto or if it's not that, it's suburban sprawl that is often lifeless, Japan takes more care into building architecture that looks pleasing to the eye, modern America meanwhile uses this weird corporate brutalist, minimalist style that seems designed to make you feel despair, gone is the "lovably tacky" styles you used to see in the 90s and 00s (look up the Planet Hollywood restaurant in Orlando Florida and what it used to be and what they turned it into for a perfect example of what I'm talking about)

Our media reflects this, anime still has a genuine feeling of wanting to entertain you, almost all of American media now is dedicated to making you swallow Woke ideology and despair, America has turned into a country that seems to on purpose want to demoralize you and make you despair, Japan, for all it's faults, doesn't suffer that same sort of mentality.

And if you're not happy with the current state of things, increasingly that's labeled "fascism" and anime offers a very stark contrast to the American cultural zeitgeist.

Also TLDR it's just aesthetics, anime is drawn to be pleasing to the eye, American culture celebrates the ugly and off putting, if you're not content with that, anime can't help but offer a pleasing alternative.

People watch anime because there is nothing better to watch in their spare time. Nearly all western media is shit, every non Japanese media is shit, Social Media is cancer and even sports have regenerated to the elite's Pokémon battles.

I think I told this story once before, but I watched the first several episodes of Attack on Titan while trying to get into this weeb chick's pants (it's probably best not to ask). I was legitimately intrigued when the obvious Special Anime Protagonist Boy looked like he'd been killed only a couple episodes in.

Maybe they're subverting all the animu cliches! Maybe the awkward effeminate loser sidekick will have to step up and become a leader! Maybe this will become an interesting study of being born a hero versus having to develop into on- oh, Special Anime Protagonist Boy came back from the dead and now he's even Special-er Anime Protagonist Boy with special powers that only he has.

Personally, I think any serious disconnect between liking anime and being a fascist largely has to do with the fact that 99.9% of fascists today aren't actually fascistic. Not to go too hard down the no true Scotsman route, but just because you hate le heckin' Jewerinos and want to shoot blacks to save the white race, you aren't a fascist. Nor are you a National Socialist. You're just a stock, run of the mill racist and there's not really much actual ideology behind racism.

Actual ideological fascists are hard to find both because fascism is a bit of a spaghetti mess of an ideology, and the bourgeois leanings of most people. Few modern fascists want a revolution to establish a proletarian and totalitarian state, to embrace the warrior nature and machismo of fascism. And how many want to embrace productivism or corporatism as economic models? The fundamental lack of genuine ideological conviction, even in the most ardent self-proclaimed fascists, is why there's no real disconnect between modern fascism ideologically and anime.

Nobody mentioned the actual reason: this new crop of neo-nazis is mostly made up of losers from the internet. They are obsessed with anime cause it shows them the life they cannot have: epic adventures, friends, a cute girl that loves you, etc. These people are also relatively easy to convince to join an extremist ideology like nazism or communism, just tell them that the reason they have nothing are the jews/bourgeoisie.

Anyone that actually knows anime knows there's anime and then there's shonen, it's basically two different things with two different fanbases.

Try a shorter series with more focused storytelling, the issue there as it with most serialized storytelling is not very often does it really stick the landing (how many US tv series have great endings?), often the idea is "read the manga if you want more", but you'll still get a more compelling story and won't have to spend the time watching hundreds of episodes.

Even shonen though has more honesty and genuineness than western media which is why people are drawn to it, but it's never quite been my cup of tea.

That's the stereotype, but I've actually heard they're the fastest growing demographic in Asia.

At any rate, we're still in worse shape, white people aren't maintaining our demographics either, but we have loads of people who would happily genocide us if the number got low enough living in our backyards.

North America and western Europe is likely to become an extension of the third world of Latin America and the middle east, Japan may have it's problems and the birth rate has shrunk, but I don't see them importing third worlders by the boatload like we do, do you?
