Heroin withdrawal is a bit worse than the flu. It's got flu like symptoms yes, but there are some nasty side effects from opioid abuse, like severe, chronic depression long term.

One of the theories as to by Anthony Bourdain hung himself is that he was in the midst of a severe bout of depression due to his prior addiction to heroin.

But in terms of Ralph, his level of Xanax and alcohol abuse, I don't think he could safely taper either without being in an inpatient facility.

it's been in the back of my mind every time that evan is mentioned, but i think that this is the first bit of confirmation that we've had about his cognitive ability versus his physical disabilities.



i'll take it one step further and assert that the young ragepiglet is the primary reason that evan was placed in a care facility. their mother doesn't seem to have been incapable of raising her children. she could have received proper home healthcare training and additional financial support from the state for keeping evan at home.

i imagine that years of coping with all three was exhausting. it would explain some of why ronnie continued to drink, why he left, and why sandra felt so guilty that she catered to the ragepig's every whim until her death.

Benzo withdrawals may be objectively worse because of how dangerous they are physically, but I think they're equally horrible in terms of the effects they have mentally/psychologically. Heroin withdrawal will "only" make you wish you were dead, as they say. Both of them also come with Post-Acute Withdrawal Syndrome for months after the acute physical withdrawals. Before being introduced to Kiwi Farms I'd say I wouldn't wish either experience on my worst enemy, but...well.

I knew a guy (friends’ dad) who was quitting clonazepam (also a benzo), and it made him talk like he’d had a stroke.

Since we are sharing, I have a close family member who was prescribed Valium, a fucking ridiculous amount actually, for about 6 months. It was hell trying to get her in the hospital to get off it, she stayed 3 weeks and came out looking and sounding like she had a stroke as well. She was never the same, and I believe it contributed to her early onset dementia. So yeah, I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.
