He's only so pissy now because he has no options. He's stuck in a depressing place, surrounded by strangers, eating modest amounts of mediocre semi-healthy food. Jack spends most of his time in comfort, and for the first time in ages he's having to deal with some discomfort. And this how he handles it, he lashes out and makes it everyone elses problem, because he's that kind of asshole.

Jack is at this SNF for post-stroke rehab. (That's how he transferred there from the hospital.) This isn't something he just has to wait out, like being snowed in at a mediocre hotel. For the next couple of weeks, month at most, the physical therapists are constantly assessing whether he's making progress or will end up being discharged to home and family care--or being transferred to the long-term care wing of the same SNF.

Jack should be spending his time working with PT, working on the hand exercisers they leave him to do on his own. Even that would be an opportunity for some inspiration porn, some God-is-good over an image of a lady in scrubs helping him with a resistance band.

Jack isn't focusing on that at all. He's complaining about amenities. Either he's finally decided to become private about his health journey, or this is indicative of his participation.

A (relatively) young person in a rehab knows that the food isn't amazing, but they're there to get range of motion back, and to have adequate staff to help them toilet and bathe in the meantime. If he's here to judge the food and get joy out of complaining all day, Jack will fit in great when he moves to the long-term care side.

I might get a TMI for this, but I want to point out how much of an asshole this lying fat shitbag is.

As mentioned, I spent the better part of a year in a facility a few years ago recovering from a leg injury where I needed PT to basically learn to walk again. The place Jack is in is at least as nice if not nicer than the place I was in it was ok and ok at best where I was.

Dietitian and Kitchen will work with people who have special needs especially diabetic even Muslims got special trays with not shellfish or pork. After gaining some weight I had gotten into a healthier lifestyle some years ago. but had gain a little back at the time due to the lack of mobility and wanted to eat as healthy as possible my daily meals were as such.

Breakfast Hard Boil Egg, Whatever Protein was being served for Breakfast, small cup cottage cheese, yogurt, V8, and Coffee. If they had no protein for Breakfast like it was waffles, pancakes, or Danish I'd get a piece of toast preferably wheat no butter due to the cook being heavy handed with the butter.

Lunch which is more like dinner because this is when nursing homes have the most staff. Salad with Oil and Vinegar dressing, whatever veg was being served with lunch, an orange (it was my dessert), and a diet pop and diet iced tea.

Dinner which was usually a lunch type meal if they had soup, I'd get the soup, but this wasn't a daily thing, another salad with oil and vinegar, an apple and a plain cheese sandwich, another diet pop, and iced tea.

snack they'd have a cart of chips and candy, but I usually requested cheese and crackers from the kitchen or just take a bag or pretzels.

Yes, I ate salads twice daily for months to stay healthy it wouldn't have been my first choice, but it was my best at the time and helped me achieve my goals.

Also, these places have vending machines for pop and snacks, family is allowed to bring you food, and you can order takeout.

Jack doesn't like the food he's getting and is just being a bitch trying to use his being diabetic as an excuse as if he hasn't done video after video of him shoving carbs down his gullet.

My aunt did too. For about a week, although she was supposed to be there for a few months, after a really gnarly hip replacement. She checked herself out, saying something like I've already spent too much time around bitchy old dying people. Unlike Jack, she is a retired Army colonel who then spent another couple decades as an RN, and can tank damage like a vidya character. I think something like half her skeleton has been replaced at this point.

Also, I kept in contact with a few people I became friends with on the staff and in nursing homes a lot of the aides and nurses aren't employees of the home but work for agencies. This means they not only work there but other facilities and hospitals as well and thus come in contact with Covid and it's an ongoing issue that these places get small covid outbreak every now and then. Meaning Mr. Anti-Vaxx might come face to face to with Wuhan Flu.
