Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

I've bitched about Dexit in the past here, but I'll keep it simple in regards to my argument.

The issue is that having all Pokemon made the games unique, special in a way that nothing else has ever compared. Giving that up is destroying the very identity of the franchise. It wasn't done for a good reason, anything about graphics or memory limitations is bullshit, it was cynically done to sell shit like Pokemon Home and put even less effort into making the games. I would give them the benefit of the doubt if Home was free, but $20 a year is avaricious nonsense - Google Drive give you millions of times the storage for free that it takes to hold the kilobytes of Pokemon data. It steams me to no end they changed from physical solutions to moving Pokemon to software that's future is basically numbered as seen by Pokemon Bank being axed from download-ability soon when they could have made a physical dongle to save the data to transfer from 3DS to Switch.

In the end it's true most people don't care about bringing Pokemon into new games. 90% probably don't even connect their games together in any way, just abandoning the save and moving on to the next game when it comes. That makes the effort to nickle and dime that 10% with manufactured fees for a worse version of something that always existed for free all the worse. Being okay with Dexit is being okay with lower standards and the attempt to make every game have live service elements, and I can't abide that.

Still, game is made by small indie company, so prease undertandu.
Regardless of why Dexit happened, I'm still of the belief that it was a matter of "when", not "if".

Even if Game Freak was more competent on the technical side of things, having a game where it's possible to obtain 1000+ Pokemon and counting sounds like it would be quite the undertaking. This is also taking into account that they would be working within the limits of the Nintendo Switch and the fact that they're pressuring themselves to get a game out every year.

I don't believe Dexit is a sign that Game Freak is taking a lazier approach to the series. Hell, I'm not sure I can even buy into the "GF is lazy" mentality. In Scarlet/Violet there's little attentions to detail that show that there is definitely still some love being put into these games, but it has become very apparent that this franchise needs to be handled better if S/V launch is any indication.

I can see how it would be inevitable but at the same time it was incredibly jarring how it happened with the leap to new, stronger hardware after they managed to fit all of them plus additional forms into the 3DS.
I've often seen people citing The Pokemon Company as one of the causes behind the lack in polish beyond just Game Freak and I can totally see how with the release schedule the series has.
And I agree on GF still putting some love into the games, there are plenty of neat animations in S/V for new mons and characters alike. I could see them doing better if they were given more time and ressources.
Though they have yet to regain the passion that the HG/SS director had for the development of the remakes.

Ive always firmly believed that the Pokémon company wasn't truly ready for the 3D switch. They had the Capcom struggle.
Capcom still continued to make 2D entries on PlayStation when other companies were rolling out their 3D titles. When they attempted to switch it failed and the developers struggled to make a 3D game because they lacked the knowledge and were catching up to everyone else.

Gamefreak is going through similar problems for the last few gens, compounded by the fact that Pokémon code already is bug prone and has issues. I give them some credit, there's a lot of things I like about SV. I just hope they expand their staff at some point and bring on new talent more suited for the world creation while the original team keeps up with the new content creation, storyboarding and battle mechanics. If they aren't hiring more developers for the future I question how committed they are to future games success.

Arguably the biggest problem with how Dexit happened was that Game Freak basically ripped the badaid off with announcing it. While I believe it was a matter of time before it happened, if not flat out overdue by a gen or two, it probably could’ve been rolled out better.

That said, the Pokémon fanbase is a combination of Children, Retards, and Competitive Autists. While that first group likely don’t care because they’re young enough to not have the same nostalgia for older Pokémon/the same kind of Pokémon Home/Bank reserves, the latter two are far louder.

I'm not saying they couldn't do it. I'm saying that, with how things are being run now, a task like that is easier said then done.
Highest grossing franchise, they could hire more with ease to pick up the slack on what's difficult. If it weren't so fucking profitable I'd understand more. They just want to pump it out yearly with little care on quality control.

That's what I'm trying to say here. The yearly releases is the biggest issue with the games. It can't be offset by simply hiring more people. I won't act like I know how game development works, but I do know that training needs to be done for new employees and that takes time. Time that could get in the way of developing the next Pokemon game.

What I think that Game Freak needs to do is slow the fuck down and adopt a release schedule similar to series like Super Mario and Zelda.

I'm so salty that it's a yearly release that suffers in quality you don't even know. Every time I talk about this anywhere else on the internet I'm swarmed by fedoras thinking that nintendo can do no wrong. I like this thread.

You really think the highest grossing game franchise in the world couldn't make a full dex on switch of 1,000 when they could on 3DS with 802 pokemon? Bullshit.

It was even more telling, when Super Mystery Dungeon had more Pokémon available (720), than Sword and Shield post-DLCs (664), BDSP (493), and Scarlet and Violet (478 so far).

The series being as big as it is, and the game not reaching Fallout 76 or Battlefield 2042-levels of awful yet, makes people believe that.

Mystery dungeon is the best game on switch for pokemon so far. I did finally start playing brilliant diamond though and I don't hate it. I'm gonna die mad about sword and shield being shit though. And I'm not probably going to pick up scarlet and violet now that there's a save killing bug either. Which is a shame because I love all the starters and a lot of the dex for gen 9.

The bugs for S/V I have seen and read about make it pretty close to that point but not to it yet. I think gen 10 is going to be a fucking mess.

The problem with Dexit isn't just that it's lazy or that the hardware isn't powerful enough. It's that Pokemon makes a net gain more than the GDP of multiple small countries combined, and what do they give us? Static animations (tail wag is a great example), bugs out the ass, both game breaking and fun, and the same fucking game year after year, just with a feature or two tweaked.

There's an infograph I always point to that compares SW/SH to Digimon Cyber Sleuth, pointing out how despite making, IIRC, 10% of the profit, Digimon, on a weaker system (the Vita) was able to make overworld models for every single monster, at every stage of evolution, give every single monster a unique animation for their signature attack that was more than sliding them around, give every monster a unique win animation for landing the final hit, and have more detailed environments.

It's not just the lies, or the suddenness of it, it's the absolute gall of saying how hard it is to do any of these things (note: not ALL, ANY) with the amount of pokemon there are, when they make more money than this entire forum will ever see in our collective lifetimes, ANNUALLY. Add to that their absolute refusal to entertain even the simplest of fan requests, their paradoxical sucking off of competitive, while having a raging hate-on for people who just want a bit more spice (Nuzlockers), and their insistance on burning down every new, enjoyed feature every single game, and replacing it with more and more watered down shit versions, and it's no surprise people were pissed off.

Bit of a PSA for Scarlet/Violet.

There seems to be some data corruption issue with either the GO connectivity or DLC which can result in a lost save file. If you have used the Go connectivity or downloaded the pre-order DLC, I would recommend not playing your main profile until it has been patched. According to Reddit (yeah, I know), while it's only occured for a small number of people, it seems more common than it should be (around 1% of user have experienced it from their data set). Utterly embarrassing GF. Nintendo eventually gave in to save backups for Animal Crossing because of shit like this, get with the fucking times GF. Worrying about "cloning" or "exploits" is a bullshit excuse when it's already so easy to hack the Switch, it's quite rediculous for me to be actually considering jailbreaking my Switch just to have the means to backup my save file.

Oh but if it's a duplication bug, you assholes are on that shit fast. Utterly clownish.

In other news, Smogon is already having talks regarding banning Walking Wake from OU. I saw that shit coming the second I caught one and saw what it can do. It's a real mystery why I don't play Showdown, I gotta say.
Small update regarding Save Corruption.
It is still unknown what the cause is, but the creator of the original Reddit thread and some others effected by this have been contacted by Nintendo representatives to let them know it's an issue actively being looked into.

Again, not much of an update, but if Nintendo is actively doing some form of damage control in GF's place, there's a pretty good chance heads are spinning and asses are getting chewed as we speak.

I'm looking for something to play and I'm curious as to what this thread enjoys. So,

What's your favourite fangame or romhack? You can list runner-ups too.

But this pig is different this time, because it's name is a le heckin' epic maymay
We've been over this. lechonk is most likely is play on the word "lechon", a spanish term for a suckling pig, than it being some meme reference.

Also,
Maybe GF should keep bloat/duplication in mind next time before making yet another fucking pig/boar line. And yes, I've brought this up before.
Why are you still going on about this? We have way more rodent Pokemon (if we're only counting the mice pokemon, there's like 11-13) in the Pokedex than we do pigs/boars (5 pig pokemon to be exact). Are you sure you don't just hate pigs and boars?

Fangames are shit, ROM Hacks are GOAT

Here's a few you should absolutely give the time of day:

>Fool's Gold
Complete reimagining of the first 251 and more that's best played blind. Reawakened my love for the series and reminded me of why I found the mainline games fun in the first place. Shitload of content that, while some of it is a little cringeworthy, is mostly very very fun and worth it. Retains replay value through secret codes you can find throughout the game and input on repeated playthroughs for a different experience including a Hard mode that unlocks once you beat the league. Download it and play without looking anything up, you won't regret it.

>Fire Red: Rocket Edition
Hilarious story with fun gameplay and a good take on a fan-favorite concept. Due for a 2.0-style reimagining that'll do a lot of stuff as far as I'm aware but all I know personally is that it'll let you play as a girl. Author got blasted over an optional, very slightly edgy joke near the endgame and had to rework that so I think the hack can't be downloaded from Pokecommunity anymore, but otherwise it's well worth your time to seek out and very fun. Surprisingly replayable.

>Bushido
The only fangame on this list and the only one you should bother with. It's a Game Jam entry so it's pretty small, but I found it very tight and well-made for what it is. Kind of wish it got a full version but I don't think that's happening any time soon. Regardless, still worth the 5-10 hours you'll probably get out of the main story, and that's without touching some of the side stuff.

>Unbound
The default "best ROM hack ever" for a reason. Kind of bloated- has every gimmick ever and a vast majority of the entire national dex in its regional dex- but it has a lot of very welcome features, a surprisingly decent selection for your team despite the aforementioned regional dex bloat, character customization, different difficulties, a new region, a fuck ton of content (including, supposedly, a whole Battle Frontier) that I haven't gotten to yet, raids, etc etc. If you can deal with a questionable story and some typical ROM Hack traits like more edge than usual and some competitive BS here and there, it's well worth your time.

>Emerald R.O.G.U.E, especially CLASSIC.
The most questionable entry on this list because it's essentially Pokémon Emerald as a roguelike and whether that appeals to you is up in the air. Dev's also a tranny so if you don't want to support that then ignore. Otherwise, there're two versions to choose from: Classic and Deluxe. I far prefer Classic due to retaining the gen 3 sprites, having WAY less bloat in terms of both mechanics and items, and generally being a lot more cohesive, but I know many people prefer Deluxe for being so expansive (it's got every gimmick, every mon, every item, etc as far as I know). Either one is good (though I found Classic far more fun for replays), and you have a home base in both that expands with each playthrough. Not as consistently quality as everything else on this list, but worth a shot if you're bored and like Roguelikes.

Rodents are a group of animals, which include rats, squirrels, chipmunks, lemmings, beavers, etc. While pigs only include pigs. The former having way more variety than the latter

Sure, but how do you explain all of the mouse Pokemon? The pika-clones especially:
  • Pichu line
  • Rattata line
  • Sandshrew line
  • Cyndaquil
  • Tandemaus
  • Marill line
  • Pawmi line
  • Dedenne
  • Plusle and Minin
Granted everything past Pawmi is more vague about what type of rodent they are, but my point still stands. There are way more of those than there are pigs and boars.
