Honestly, I think Connor's home life is only messed up in his head. There was a letter that came out a while back written by Connor's mother, and the implication was that she truly tried her best to help Connor with his autism and that his parents do love him. His older brother turned out to be a perfectly normal person with a great career and social life. Connor just developed learned helplessness because of his disability and from that saw no point in effort even in areas where it would have made a different, so his life stays stagnant which makes him depressed and bitter. He has to attribute it to someone other than himself so he paints this imaginary picture of an abusive and neglectful childhood. If anything, his parents probably hurt for him and his lost potential and probably blame themselves for at least some of it.
