That said, yes, presumably she can read (as can Ralph, if not well), so the obvious total absence of reading/implementing even Dr. Spock (updated) or any of the billions of "your baby's first year" books* out there is shameful. And no, decent parenting doesn't require books either, but in the absence of any natural instincts, it's better than nothing.
