Are videogames for children?

Don't wanna sad up the chat but I figured I'd share something ya kiwis can probably appreciate.

The first game I ever played ONLINE (plenty before that) was Burnout Paradise on the PS3. We finally got solid internet at the house. My dad let me pick one DLC car for $2 and I picked the Carson Bootlegger.

When I fired it up online the first time, I went to the Airfield portion of the map. There I met 4 friends, Joey, Smac, Monster and Duck. They invited me to join them in goofing off at the airfield, and so a core memory was formed for me, jumping and smashing around the airfield in my Bootlegger for hours. I gamed with those guys for years. We were all 12-14yo

Burnout Paradise was remastered in 2018 or so. I bought it some time ago and occasionally play it. And today I decided to go back. Same car. Same location. ~15 years later.

Smac, and his little brother who often gamed with us, never returned from running an errand with their mom one day. We were gaming, their mom asked them to run to walmart....and they never logged on again. Monster was sickly to begin with, and after hearing him deteriorate over time he also simply never logged on again. Joey left us for the growing COD craze. Me and duck gamed for a few more years before slowly moving to different games.

It's dumb to think about a game leaving a mark on someone like that. But I'm pretty sure that memory of that first time online will stick with me until I die. Not only are these friends gone now. But these games are gone too. I tend not to put alot of stock in games because realistically speaking, they mean nothing. But at the same time it did have a big influence on me.

Even tho its not real, it has a real effect. And it's a shame we can't go back to that time of better games, fun memories like that. Those games are gone. Dumbfun multiplayer is dead, essentially.

Just putting things in perspective. Have a good night kiwis.

The Broken Arrow demo got put back on Steam for anyone who missed it the first time. Broken Arrow is an RTS game based on a modern-day conflict between the US and Russia. There is only a demo mission so far. It's pretty fun.

First demo was fun, second seems more of the same. Game seems promising; a bit more intense than a standard RTS, a bit less so than more "hardcore" wargames. Still doesn't run well for me even on low though :(
Arsenal also doesn't make much sense but whatever

Been struggling through Armored Brigade when I have the time. The Winter Desolation mission is kicking my ass.

I didn't get a chance to play it much because I found out about it too late. The few times I did play it I lost a few times. The demo is the same as the first one. It seems like the Russians are a little more aggressive this time. I did watch people play it on YouTube though. What little I did play was fun. I am looking forward to its release. I bought WARNO during a steam sale. But it's pretty bare bones still except for the skirmish mode. Regiments is pretty good though. Though there is a time limit. You have to move a little quicker in Regiments.

I checked out Armored Brigade, but it doesn't look like the strategy game I would be into. It looks technical and clunky. But I will add it to my wishlist. I might get it during a sale.

Tonight, I finally hit a Mile Stone

I got the Chaos Emeralds that I was never able to get as a little kid in Sonic 2 and 3

i didnt even know where they were back then, I just discovered these tonight

i wasnt any good at these games as a little kid (i still don't)

But the Emeralds have made me happy cattt.png

Did anyone see the new Robocop game? It's being developed by the same people that made Terminator Resistance. It was a pretty good Terminator game so hopefully the Robocop game will be the same if not better. They even got Peter Weller to do the voice for Robocop in the game so it will literally be Robocop. I'm kind of hoping it will be open world but if it isn't that's fine. I just hope it's a good game. A Robocop game would be great.

ED-209 will be in the game.

That sounds about right. There's no real tutorial and missions are basically just preset battles rather than a progression to help you learn. I think it's an interesting game but you need a bit of military autism to enjoy it.

Forests in video games are so bad.
Most of the time when you see a video game forest it seems to resemble Rocky Mountains forests, which have trees that stand quite a ways apart from each other, such that you can basically go driving/riding/running through it and have no obstacles, it's a glorified meadows with trees dotted around. And there are probably other places in the world that are like that too. Kingdom Come: Deliverance had nice forests that were much more thickly wooded but still open.

But in Eastern North America, which is what I'm complaining about, trees are much thicker together and often accompanied by horrific amounts of brush to the point where while most forest is walkable, it's not drivable and large sections may as well be jungle. But you never see a game use impenetrable walls of trees like that (outside of old GameBoy RPG type shit), just the former.

I have Burnout Paradise remastered and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit remastered on Steam. I have it Hot Pursuit on the Switch as well. They are both pretty fun. It's odd that the one guy never logged back in. Hopefully he was ok and just forgot his password or something.

Heard about that. I hope it's good because we won't be getting any other decent Terminator movies or anything like. Arnold is too old and shits too woke now.

Try STALKER and go through the Red Forest.
Here come the Shredder's Revenge clones.

I have Shredder's Revenge. It's pretty fun.

I don't know if this video game related, since it's E-Sports related. Yesterday Faze clan died, stocks nosedived to pennies.

Faze holding were a billion dollar and it died overnight.

E-Sports are more about shilling for corporate trash than video games.

Neopets in shambles
The only thing I remember from Neopets is those little handheld virtual pet things from the 90's. I don't think anyone under the age 30 could possibly give a shit about them. The Neopets "community" must be full of a bunch of cringy ass adults. Considering the fact that they sell a T-shirt for adults I suspect I am right. It's a bunch of cringey millennial faggots.
seems games can't even have remote association with russia anymore: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1601970/Tunguska_The_Visitation/

check the very first line (This game is developed in the United States.)
I put that on my wishlist. Top down STALKER? Why not.

They probably don't want people refusing to buy it because it might be a game made in Russia. People were shitting on Atomic Heart because of that.

Robocop game will be the same if not better
Terminator Resistance has 88% very positive rating on Steam, which is a indication of quality from the the devs.

I never cared for E-sports and always found it to be cringey and gay.

You can tell the developers had respect for the Terminator series and lore. They were obviously fans and if they weren't they at least did it with respect. Can't say the same for some of the last movies.

I liked Baron. she was hot

I would love to see a modern day (good) game based off of a 1980s Sci Fi intellectual property that directly uses the style, set piece design, 1980s era ideals of future sci fi aesthetic, and general atmosphere of the actual film. All the modern games based on these films never seem to really capture what they felt like to experience. Most of the buildings and structures look like our current ideas of future design, most of the set pieces and dialogue and basically each and every little detail scream at you directly, "This is a game made in the modern era, based off of a 1980s franchise".

I want one that feels like it came from that era, but created with modern tech. The original Total Recall would be a really, really good example of this. That movie oozes the design I am talking about...futuristic cars that you can tell had some possible cardboard elements to them, very Stage-Like set and environment design. I often use these pictures to get across that feeling when I have discussed this before:

(sorry, I just had to include the last one..)

Just by looking at this you can tell it was made in the late 1980s/early 1990s, based off of the future. Ion Maiden *Fury was one of the few games to nail this feeling. But then you jump to the 2012 Total Recall steaming shit pile and that general atmosphere is what most modern interpretations of these older franchises look like. I'm sorry but they are just hideous. I mostly blame The Matrix for installing this unnecessarily dark and metallic (but not in a good way) what I call "Corporate Look" into our Sci Fi idea pool.

*fuck you Bruce Dickinson, and your faggot ass lawyers
