It might be a cope to avoid confronting that he torpedoed his career.
At one point he could (dubiously) claim to be a political commentator due to working on The Young Turks, but he left that to become a full time streamer and sit next to Ethan Klein waggling his eyebrows. He had a short appearance on the BBC World News channel recently:
but he was so Twitch-rotted that he struggled to answer very basic questions and appeared hopelessly out of his depth (I doubt he'll get invited back).
Hasan now doesn't have the trajectory Hasan in 2017 had. He's not an up and coming young "one to watch" with potential to make it as a serious political commentator, he's a bloke in his thirties who gets constantly embroiled in stupid drama and failed to achieve his potential. (I mean it's

to think he could have ever truly become a serious political journalist, but 5-6 years ago it wouldn't have been impossible to believe it could have happened).
He still earns a shittonne of money from Twitch so I'm sure his $200,000 porsche offers him some comfort, but I'm sure he compares himself to his MSNBC presenting uncle and realises that the serious political establishment at best see him as a Literally Who and the majority of his audience are terminally online children. Money can't buy you prestige or validation. Thus he clings to meaningless baubles like this "just chatting" award (even the name of the award is a bit of a slap in the face for someone who thinks I Am Very Smart And Important).
