So I decided to watch this show on a whim to pass time while grinding in a game, and I enjoyed it greatly until season 4. I'm kinda confused on a lot of it and don't really understand where the plot is going. I looked at the spoilers in this thread and just decided to stop watching it lmao. Like, did the author just lose interest or what?
  • The mystery behind the Titans is kinda ruined with this weird ass plot twist that they're just normal people turned into monsters by another human city. The whole thing about humanity being nearly extinct and the world is in ruins is a farce. It's literally just Paradis that's being persecuted because reasons.
  • The Marleyans are so hilariously twisted and evil yet the show tries to paint them as better than the Eldians near the end for some reason...? They literally made a self-fulfilling prophecy by trying to wipe out the Eldians and the Eldians responded back by trying to wipe them out...
  • Eren acts like a completely different character in the last season and then there's this retarded ass plot twist that he can see the future and can alter the past. What???????????????????? That completely breaks the plot in every conceivable way.
  • It falls into the typical anime bullshit where hated enemies learn to forgive each other even though that's not how real people work. I was stupefied when Sasha's family just FORGAVE Gabby for murdering her. What kind of fucking father does that????
  • Gabby is so obviously meant to be the Marley version of Eren, she even looks and acts like him. But she's worse in every way and I kept praying for her to die, but her plot armor was too thick.
  • Zeke's plan is retarded yet somehow he gets treated like the lesser evil to Eren. Apparently killing those who want to kill you is bad and you should accept your own extinction because your race supposedly did bad things thousands of years ago. Sounds VERY familiar to the real world right now...
  • Eren is in the wrong because he wants to stomp out the enemy human nations that want to genocide and wipe out his home and family. I get that genocide is "le bad" (except when it happens to Eldians, of course) but what fucking option did they have? This is the part that really makes me hate season 4. The entire Rumbling concept should haven ever even happened. If the world wants all Eldians dead, and the Eldians have no way of fighting back except for the Rumbling, then why is Eren wrong for wanting to kill them before they kill him? We are shown that technology is already at a point where Titans are nearly useless in modern wars. Can you imagine in 50 years or so when nations have fucking tanks, attack helicopters, fighter jets, or NUKES? The Rumbling wouldn't amount to shit. So the idea of just displaying the Rumbling to keep Marley or whoever at bay wouldn't even last two generations. So what is the actual solution here? What happens when/if Eren gets stopped? The other nations aren't just going to stop wanting to mass murder Eldians because some of them stopped the Rumbling. This entire situation just sets up Eren as being COMPLETELY JUSTIFIED yet the story has him as the main villain.
  • I legit don't understand the message this story is trying to convey now. Is it saying that you should survive no matter what? Clearly not because Eren is "le bad" for wanting to keep his SPECIES alive. Is it that war is hell? Can't be because the entire plot wouldn't even have happened if Marley didn't force a war for no reason and are objectively the evil side. It's like the message is saying that you should feel bad for what your ancestors did and if you're race is deemed evil then you deserve to die and you should forgive those whole kill your loved ones. It's fucking weird.
  • In short: Eren is character assassinated, the last arc makes no sense, the theme and tone are fucked, and the ending is going to suck.
It should have just stuck with the idea of Paradis being the last bastion of human civilization. Literally the theory of Titans being aliens would have been better than this.

Eren acts like a completely different character in the last season and then there's this retarded ass plot twist that he can see the future and can alter the past. What???????????????????? That completely breaks the plot in every conceivable way.
Eren's acting this way because Isayama failed to realize the character he actually wrote (intentionally, or otherwise), and decided to completely ignore all the set up for really dumb time-travel shenanigans. Which is really weird because it would explain all the problems that come with his character during this final arc, and especially the ending.
It falls into the typical anime bullshit where hated enemies learn to forgive each other even though that's not how real people work. I was stupefied when Sasha's family just FORGAVE Gabby for murdering her. What kind of fucking father does that????
It's never been proven, but the speculated reason for this is because Isayama really didn't like Sasha.
Eren is in the wrong because he wants to stomp out the enemy human nations that want to genocide and wipe out his home and family.
The main issue is given how the Rumbling is conducted, it would destroy Paradis too with all the ecological damage it would cause. Eren's not just killing people. He's effectively upending the entire world's ecological system, and wiping out most plant, and animal life. All the smoke and ash would block out the sun, and cause another ice age. The oceans would turn to toxic sludge. Acid rain would fall, and that along with the said new ice age would render farming all, but impossible.

He's basically bulldozing the entire world, so all the technological, medical, artistic, etc. progress the places outside the Walls made would be lost, too. It would also render the goal of the series moot too because there's nothing to see outside the Walls once he destroyed it all. Yeah, they killed all the titans, and outside threats, and shit, but what's the point if all that's left is a smoldering, barren wasteland that's eventually gonna kill you too anyways?

Lastly, a full-scale Rumbling was not needed as small ones used to take out other countries military capabilities could've worked just as well. At least long enough for negotiations to be possible. True, it might not have worked given how dumb this world is, but it still should've been tried first.
Zeke's plan is retarded yet somehow he gets treated like the lesser evil to Eren. Apparently killing those who want to kill you is bad and you should accept your own extinction because your race supposedly did bad things thousands of years ago. Sounds VERY familiar to the real world right now...
It is less retarded given what I mentioned above. It's definitely not a good plan, but it's better than the Rumbling just because the way the Rumbling is conducted is just so dumb.
I legit don't understand the message this story is trying to convey now. Is it saying that you should survive no matter what? Clearly not because Eren is "le bad" for wanting to keep his SPECIES alive. Is it that war is hell? It's fucking weird.
It legitimately does not have one anymore. Hilariously, Levi's line of "Give up on your dreams, and die." is the closest thing there is to an actual message at the end.

That, along with some very, very dumb ones, but those are spoilers.
In short: Eren is character assassinated, the last arc makes no sense, the theme and tone are fucked, and the ending is going to suck.
Dude, you ain't seen nothing yet. There's a reason they keep delaying the ending. It's something that for better, or worse, people are gonna be talking about for ten years at least.

Eren's acting this way because Isayama failed to realize the character he actually wrote (intentionally, or otherwise), and decided to completely ignore all the set up for really dumb time-travel shenanigans.
Just like Family Guy writers, Attack on Titan writers could not keep a consistency with these characters

Except Family Guy is a comedy where things don’t really matter much in the grand scheme. What’s Isayama’s excuse?
Well yea, it's completely obvious that Attack on Titan is different from shows such as Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama, American Dad, King of the Hill, Beavis & Butthead, South Park, Aqua Teen, Robot Chicken, Rick & Morty, etc. as these shows are more episodically made American animated sitcoms (similar to most other live-action sitcoms like Seinfeld, Fresh Prince, Fraiser, Malcolm in the Middle, Curb Your Enthusiasm, It's Always Sunny, etc.) while shows like Attack on Titan is a continuity based Japanese anime. And you'd think a show like Attack on Titan would properly follow continuity, but considering the writers are a bunch of retards, they just cannot keep up with it.

Eren is in the wrong because he wants to stomp out the enemy human nations that want to genocide and wipe out his home and family. I get that genocide is "le bad" (except when it happens to Eldians, of course) but what fucking option did they have? This is the part that really makes me hate season 4. The issue with Eren’s goals is that he and his self hating brother are the actual reason that the other nations want to genocide his country. He cockblocked his country from doing anything else that isn’t just doing what he and his brother want, and both of them pretty much planned the entire world attacking Paradis since the only reason the declaration of war happened was that Zeke kept pushing for it. Eren just goes along with it because the future told him too, that and he sticks on “muh prophecy” because Mikasa family zoned him.

This is especially evident because when the token good Eldian talked about the truth, everyone suddenly was like “oh shit maybe the devil island isn’t bad after all” which indicated that there could’ve been other ways but Eren was a genocidal retard whose motives keep changing around. He only wants to protect the Eldians on his island, would kill everyone else outside of it.

tl;dr Thinking more about it, it’s really hard to say the rumbling is justified at all even if we think about the environmental consequences given Eren basically helped try to guarantee all outside circumstances for it to happen and forced everyone else to follow his command.

It falls into the typical anime bullshit where hated enemies learn to forgive each other even though that's not how real people work. I was stupefied when Sasha's family just FORGAVE Gabby for murdering her. What kind of fucking father does that????
This was for a “wars bad” message first and to get kids out of war thing than actual reasoning. Like it’s really stupid since you can still have the same message like I don’t think they need to forgive Gabi as justification for why they won’t kill kids. Could’ve been handled better and I’m saying this as someone who kinda likes Gabi..

In short: Eren is character assassinated, the last arc makes no sense, the theme and tone are fucked, and the ending is going to suck.
The ending makes it even worse. Like just read the remaining manga chapters that haven’t been adapted yet to see why unless you want to wait even more months for an hour long anime special in Fall.

I get what you guys are saying but remember that Marley declared war unprovoked after 100 years. And yeah in the real world the Rumbling would likely have a drastic effect on the environment, though in the show it doesn't somehow even though the titans produce steam so hot it can melt the flesh off humans instantly (bad writing). The other countries wanted them dead regardless of Eren's actions. Tybur literally had this whole ass speech on why the Eldians need to be wiped out and it resulted in forging an alliance with many nations. It's brought up more than once that with the advancement of technology making Titans less and less useful that it would be inevitable before Marley just decided to dispose of their Eldian slaves. Also, yeah I looked up the ending spoilers on the first page and it just ended up proving Eren right again with the survivors of the Rumbling literally nuking Paradis. It was also funny how the author didn't explain anything about Ymir or what the fuck turned her into a Titan. It was also also funny how Eren, Mikasa, and Jean all got cucked. I hope the anime does an original ending because holy shit I don't want to see that abortion of a finale get animated.

It was also funny how the author didn't explain anything about Ymir or what the fuck turned her into a Titan.
It was the giant centipede monster that is critically central to basically the entire main plot yet is never explored beyond its basic magical existence. It is the centerpiece of the entire premise, Titans, yet has no explanation to it whatsoever in universe. It just is 'there' at one point, has 'Titan' powers, and can transfer those powers to any living organism like people or even trees. And we get no other information on it. Where is it from? What is it? Why Titan powers? You do not deserve these answers.

It is like the author had some grand idea about the Titans, but then abandoned it because he could never reconcile nor properly provide satisfactory answers to the great mysteries. The same writing style as Lost or Game of Thrones where you throw out mystery boxes at the beginning, then like a pyramid scheme only reveal more mystery boxes, to distract the viewers from there never being a payoff for anything.

If you had asked probably 100% of the AOT fandom what the original source of the Titans was before this thing was revealed. Not a single person would have guessed the "magic mystery centipede". People had all of these elaborate and well imagined theories about the science of the Titans. Them being a biological weapon or a curse from some 'God' or 'elder power'. If Titans were made outside of the walls. If someone in the interior of the walls was making Titans in secret. It all amounted to nothing. It was the centipede.

There are several fan sites and forums where people praise the reveal of the shining centipede as being one of the best plot points in the entire story though. And they argue that it enhances the story in every single way. But I do not see it. I found it to be the worst aspect of the entire story.

The centipede spine thing would have been fine if this hack author just EXPLAINED it. Since the story has a clear reliance on things from the Bible, he could have just made the magic spine be related to Biblical giants and that the devil corrupted the spine at some point which is what causes mindless titans to eat humans. Literally anything would have been fine. As it is now it's literally just "Ymir was turned into a Titan because plot lol".

This fucking shit is still going? Holy God. I haven't returned since I know nothing is going to change and I've got better things to do with my time than watch a story get ruined. Though at this point its totally fucked anyway.
I hope the anime does an original ending because holy shit I don't want to see that abortion of a finale get animated.
I'd laugh if its taking this long for them to figure out how to fix the garbage fire that the cringe-avengers ending was.

Just endless arguing, fist-fights in conference room, story-writers and artists holding their heads in their hands at 2 am in the office. Producers crying in the bathroom. Just fucking apocalyptic.

I know that's not it, but its fun to picture.

It is very clear Isayama did not know where he was going. The most fun I've had with a thread was this one, following the monthly chapter releases at just how fucking hysterical and bad each one was. It was so beautiful. I think the best moment was when Eren's head gets fucking blown off by a 12 year old, firing an anti-material rifle from the fucking crouched position and getting a perfect neck shot, blowing off Eren's head, only for Zeke to catch it. I just fucking lost my shit it was so funny.

The plot gets even funnier because someone 100% said that Eren couldn't kill the world and the editors would not let Isayama let Hitler win. Which basically was the intent and the foreshadowing the entire time (except the beginning, which clearly foreshadowed a time loop. Time was sort of added later on in the story, though far shittier than anyone predicted). There's honestly no way the ending to the manga wasn't hit by an editor, because it does such a quick 180 that your neck snaps.

The shit that goes on in the ending...my God.
  • Reiner wrestling a worm naked going "NOT ON MY WATCH"
  • Hange biting it for no fucking reason.
  • Zeke popping out of Eren to go "I'M OVER HERE, KILL ME" while Levi just looks surprised for a second and beheads him
  • Ymir being in love with her pedophiliac rapist
  • Mikasa rejecting Eren even though she was wet for him 90% of the series and then just making out with his severed head for necrophiliac incest
  • Eren sitting in a puddle of piss crying about how he wants no one to fuck Mikasa
  • Armen convincing Eren to just die, and he does, peacing out like the black kid in that meme
  • Eren turning into a bird to steal Mikasa's scarf
  • The farmer actually being the father of Histora's child, rendering an entire character meaningless
  • Annie to come back for no reason other than she had to, does nothing except eat a lot of pie
  • Turns out Eren was right all along and Paradis gets ass-fucked in a modern war and destroyed
  • Eren is a giant tree some kid finds in the forest
Everything is so non-sensical and retarded. The cope and trying to make it the "BEST ANIME EVER" after is going to be beautiful. Attack on Titan is my favorite terrible story because of how good it started and how awful it ended, with every fan theory being superior, even the fucktarded ones.

Eren is a giant tree some kid finds in the forest
And that tree looked like the one Ymir licked to get her powers so eventually some retard will decide to lick it and we go through ALL OF THIS FUCKING SHIT again and again, which effectively means the entire series was a complete waste of time, because nobody learned anything and nothing was actually accomplished.

I was never much of an anime person, I did watch Dragon Ball, Pokémon and even the first Digimon as a kid, but mostly moved on as I grew up, once in college I had a friend that kept insisting I watch this series, I kept refusing, eventually he got so insistent that I decided to give it a watch just to shut him up and I actually enjoyed I pretty much binged the first 25 episodes, and then it ended up like this what a fucking waste, too bad I'm not in touch with that guy anymore I'd never let him live it down

I get what they were trying to go for. Sasha's dad, Mr. Braus, is wise enough to realize that Gabi is just a little kid fighting in a war she doesn't really understand, as the behest of adults like him that don't really give a shit if she lives or dies. She and Sasha were soldiers and shit happens. He's willing to let it go because he knows nothing he does now would bring Sasha back, and its pointless to hold a grudge. Maybe the scene could have been done better, but I got what Isayama was going. And, hey, weirder things have happened in real life. There are stories of soldiers meeting former enemy soldiers who literally tried to kill them years later and having pleasant conversations with them. Sasha's dad has nothing on shit that's happened in real life: There was a white South African dad whose daughter was raped and butchered by a bunch of black guys. He not only forgave the rapists, but asked for clemency on their behalf and tried to excuse their behavior.

Oh yeah I definitely get the intention behind the scene, but it feels like there should've been more about how he felt about Sasha's death in front of gabi. It's a good scene yet it feels like he doesn't seem to care about it. It just came across as a bit off, even if there was a good message behind it.

But honestly this is a really minor problem compared and I wish Attack on Titan ended in such a way where these conversations would be brought up more instead of some retarded incel bullshit that is Eren's entire character

The problem with the whole Sasha thing is that her parents just completely threw her under the bus. She joined the military to make them proud, and they just use her death to speechify about nonsense while completely blaming her for her death.

You don't see them being proud of her accomplishments, or saying how much they loved her, or anything like that. It's literally just "Rip her fault she's dead. Now lemme talk about kids, and forests for the next ten minutes. Also, you're our new daughter, little girl who just murdered our previous one.".

I get the message Isayama was going for too, but holy shit, did he fuck it up.

>Here's an example of a mentally deranged man forgiving savages for violently murdering his daughter!

Another failure of a parent alongside Sasha's dad.

You should still read the manga to get a clearer picture of the autism of AoT.

The whole thing about humanity being nearly extinct and the world is in ruins is a farce. It's literally just Paradis that's being persecuted because reasons.
Well, the reason is kind of understandable since there's a pretty good reason to hate the Eldians, but the twist itself just wasn't good to begin with, and poorly done to boot.

The Marleyans are so hilariously twisted and evil yet the show tries to paint them as better than the Eldians near the end for some reason...? They literally made a self-fulfilling prophecy by trying to wipe out the Eldians and the Eldians responded back by trying to wipe them out...
Yeah, I'll never get the fans who think Paradis should just roll over. The fact the show wants us to root for traitors is mindblowing enough, fighting against Paradis' best interests, but fans somehow get behind that too.

Eren acts like a completely different character in the last season and then there's this retarded ass plot twist that he can see the future and can alter the past. What???????????????????? That completely breaks the plot in every conceivable way.
I don't wanna spoil it but there's a reason for that. A very retarded reason.

Edit: You spoiled yourself on pretty much everything apparently anyway, so basically he seems to be possessed by Ymir, or otherwise inexplicably obsessed with satisfying the will of Ymir or something. Gay and dumb.

It falls into the typical anime bullshit where hated enemies learn to forgive each other even though that's not how real people work. I was stupefied when Sasha's family just FORGAVE Gabby for murdering her. What kind of fucking father does that????
Yeah, that's dumb as hell, Gabby should have had her throat slit and kicked off the blimp after shooting Sasha but everyone was just cool with it.

Gabby is so obviously meant to be the Marley version of Eren, she even looks and acts like him. But she's worse in every way and I kept praying for her to die, but her plot armor was too thick.
There wasn't a single frame of animation with her that I wasn't hoping she'd die lmao

Zeke's plan is retarded yet somehow he gets treated like the lesser evil to Eren. Apparently killing those who want to kill you is bad and you should accept your own extinction because your race supposedly did bad things thousands of years ago. Sounds VERY familiar to the real world right now...
It may be a lesser evil I think, objectively, but naturally it's still unacceptable from Paradis' perspective.

Eren is in the wrong because he wants to stomp out the enemy human nations that want to genocide and wipe out his home and family. I get that genocide is "le bad" (except when it happens to Eldians, of course) but what fucking option did they have? This is the part that really makes me hate season 4. Yes, the current story's situation justifies Eren's actions, but it gets so stupid, worse than you can imagine. Just read the manga real quick and laugh at it.

I legit don't understand the message this story is trying to convey now. Is it saying that you should survive no matter what? Clearly not because Eren is "le bad" for wanting to keep his SPECIES alive. Is it that war is hell? If there's a message I guess it's that history repeats itself, which the manga ending hints at.

In short: Eren is character assassinated, the last arc makes no sense, the theme and tone are fucked, and the ending is going to suck.
Spectacularly so, unless there's a miracle and they change it.

It should have just stuck with the idea of Paradis being the last bastion of human civilization. Literally the theory of Titans being aliens would have been better than this.
Idk, aliens are supposed to be smart, right? I guess it'd still be better than what we got either way.

I looked up the ending spoilers on the first page and it just ended up proving Eren right again with the survivors of the Rumbling literally nuking Paradis.
Yeah, except that's Eren's fault. He purposefully failed the Rumbling. If they change anything it needs to be that he doesn't have some retarded suicide mission destined for failure.
