So I decided to watch this show on a whim to pass time while grinding in a game, and I enjoyed it greatly until season 4. I'm kinda confused on a lot of it and don't really understand where the plot is going. I looked at the spoilers in this thread and just decided to stop watching it lmao. Like, did the author just lose interest or what?
It should have just stuck with the idea of Paradis being the last bastion of human civilization. Literally the theory of Titans being aliens would have been better than this.
- The mystery behind the Titans is kinda ruined with this weird ass plot twist that they're just normal people turned into monsters by another human city. The whole thing about humanity being nearly extinct and the world is in ruins is a farce. It's literally just Paradis that's being persecuted because reasons.
- The Marleyans are so hilariously twisted and evil yet the show tries to paint them as better than the Eldians near the end for some reason...? They literally made a self-fulfilling prophecy by trying to wipe out the Eldians and the Eldians responded back by trying to wipe them out...
- Eren acts like a completely different character in the last season and then there's this retarded ass plot twist that he can see the future and can alter the past. What???????????????????? That completely breaks the plot in every conceivable way.
- It falls into the typical anime bullshit where hated enemies learn to forgive each other even though that's not how real people work. I was stupefied when Sasha's family just FORGAVE Gabby for murdering her. What kind of fucking father does that????
- Gabby is so obviously meant to be the Marley version of Eren, she even looks and acts like him. But she's worse in every way and I kept praying for her to die, but her plot armor was too thick.
- Zeke's plan is retarded yet somehow he gets treated like the lesser evil to Eren. Apparently killing those who want to kill you is bad and you should accept your own extinction because your race supposedly did bad things thousands of years ago. Sounds VERY familiar to the real world right now...
- Eren is in the wrong because he wants to stomp out the enemy human nations that want to genocide and wipe out his home and family. I get that genocide is "le bad" (except when it happens to Eldians, of course) but what fucking option did they have? This is the part that really makes me hate season 4. The entire Rumbling concept should haven ever even happened. If the world wants all Eldians dead, and the Eldians have no way of fighting back except for the Rumbling, then why is Eren wrong for wanting to kill them before they kill him? We are shown that technology is already at a point where Titans are nearly useless in modern wars. Can you imagine in 50 years or so when nations have fucking tanks, attack helicopters, fighter jets, or NUKES? The Rumbling wouldn't amount to shit. So the idea of just displaying the Rumbling to keep Marley or whoever at bay wouldn't even last two generations. So what is the actual solution here? What happens when/if Eren gets stopped? The other nations aren't just going to stop wanting to mass murder Eldians because some of them stopped the Rumbling. This entire situation just sets up Eren as being COMPLETELY JUSTIFIED yet the story has him as the main villain.
- I legit don't understand the message this story is trying to convey now. Is it saying that you should survive no matter what? Clearly not because Eren is "le bad" for wanting to keep his SPECIES alive. Is it that war is hell? Can't be because the entire plot wouldn't even have happened if Marley didn't force a war for no reason and are objectively the evil side. It's like the message is saying that you should feel bad for what your ancestors did and if you're race is deemed evil then you deserve to die and you should forgive those whole kill your loved ones. It's fucking weird.
- In short: Eren is character assassinated, the last arc makes no sense, the theme and tone are fucked, and the ending is going to suck.
