He got the barest taste of interacting with real humans and even if they were shitting on him it was probably wonderful. And now they want nothing to do with him.

The social isolation is only going to set in worse.

I actually buy that Phil doesn't know shit about his finances and he's panicking because he's being called out on not being an adult. We know he just hires a tax guy from the bank leaks. Tax guy probably asks for everything, Phil hands it over and just makes minimum payments on whatever downpayment plan he's on. It also shows that, he really does live paycheck to paycheck and is completely incapable of planning for anything. Even the bills Phil pays daily I bet he gets surprised by because he just doesn't retain information. And we've seen him get caught off guard by reoccurring payments before with Origin and I think some other gaming service. He probably just automates as much as possible and only worry about the other payments when they're right around the corner, then fail to retain anything about how much he typically owes.

Phil admitted to always paying the minimum on his credit cards and everything and didn't understand why he should pay more. He's really just the definition of a braindead consumer, and he probably adopted that mentality from his mother.

It seems to me that Phil plays dumb about not knowing anything about his taxes or business expenses, and uses his tax guy as a shield. He says he doesn't know anything about his business expenses after 15 years of doing this, but also says that he's working on his taxes and has every expense listed in an excel spreadsheet.

I don't know anything about this stuff, and this is completely speculative, but to me it seems likely that Phil claimed his mortgage as a business expense, knows that this is illegal and that he should not have done this, and feigns ignorance of his business expenses and puts it all on his tax guy as a way to weasel out of it.

I don't think he committed this awful of perjury on his bankruptcy forms or taxes. The tax guy would have caught on, and this interview does confirm that DSP is a retard when it comes to finances and saving money. DSP literally doesn't know how to pay taxes and needs a guy to do it for him. This tax guy would not risk his own career unless he was as inept as Phil, and while Phil is probably going to be bankrupt again, that will never be the fault of the guy who just puts together the information on what Phil owes and needs to pay.

DSP was just throwing random shit out there for what his business expenses could be. You can see the gears turning in his head in that moment and that was just one of a few things he tossed out as a speculative answer. Once he got mad at the SS guys, he started lashing out and acting like the 5k is a hoax number, because he doesn't actually know what could be considered. Realistically speaking it's possible he is claiming the gacha spending, but it is far more likely he basically just threw a number in or one of his lawyers made it up for him based on what information they were given. Putting your mortgage as an expense would never have passed even the Coof Court he got, the no pet ownership but pet supplies could because it was so insignificant no one at that time bothered to look twice.

He got the barest taste of interacting with real humans and even if they were shitting on him it was probably wonderful. And now they want nothing to do with him.

I look forward to this new arc of Phil's increasing insanity. Dude already gets spooked at cars driving by his home and yells at delivery drivers on text messages.

I figured I'd wade into this discussion to bring up that back when the bankruptcy proceedings were ongoing, once it came out what Phil was claiming his income was on his bankruptcy forms, there was sudden, similar speculation at the time as to whether Phil has been lying to the IRS about his income as well. IIRC, @actually -- who was, similarly to PieceOfPeace now, keeping track of Phil's income to the best of his ability -- brought up that the few times Phil dropped a total amount (not to be confused with individual beg-a-thon goals) he was paying for his taxes, it lined up pretty closely with what we he and others had determined was his actual income. Adding on the fact that Phil had indicated he had a "tax guy" do this stuff for him, and the tentative conclusion he reached (and that I personally think is still the most likely scenario) was that Phil was lying to the bankruptcy judge but probably not to the IRS.

I mostly agree with this reasoning, but there's one thing that I can't fit into this framework:

Rochelle probably can't and won't knowingly lie for Phil and she would've wanted to see some documents. I can't imagine that she would've asked someone financially illiterate like Phil to just fill in random numbers for 6 months back of business expenses.

Also, during the interview and the decompression streams afterwards Phil seemed very confused and referred to the $5k expenses figure as "from my tax returns or something like that!?" (can't be arsed to find a clip right now). I guess it is possible that he's just playing 4D chess, but it makes a lot of sense to me that he just handed over all his documents to Rochelle and has no clue about the figures.

I think in DSPs mind he isn't lying to the IRS if his CPA, knowing DSPs profession, just assumed reasonably, that all the gaming related transactions were business expenses. Or is it implausible for a CPA to make such an assumption in case of a sole proprietorship? In any case, Phil "didn't do anything wrong" Burnell just doesn't object to this determination. If he's ever audited I assume he would also imagine that he could claim ignorance & stupidity: "I relied on my CPA droooob."

Any discrepancy with amounts during beg events could just be typical DSP exaggeration to squeeze additional money out of dents.

I said this before in the main DSP thread, but I don’t believe he has a Tax guy anymore. I believe after the bankruptcy, since he took those mandated finance classes, he just started doing his own taxes with Turbo Tax for small businesses.

Remember when he would take 3 or 4 days off in March and April every year to meet with his “Tax attorney”? He hasn’t done that in a while. Just a stream or 2 to gather his tax dox. I think he’s just doing his taxes during that time and plugging it all into Turbo Tax.

He hasn’t even begged for $1000 to pay his tax guy in years.

If I’m mistaken, sorry I just watch snort burnell, and I just can’t recall a recent time he begged for tax attorny fee money. But when he did it was a month long event.

IIRC, his bank leaks had payments to his tax guy. I do think you're right about him not begging for it specifically anymore, but I think that's just because he's gotten lazier with his begging and doesn't bother trying to justify it anymore. At most, he'll wave around a piece of paper with some vague writing on it, or just ramble about some vague expenses.

Maybe I'm just touch starved but if I complain all the time about not having enough time to spend with muh waif I would be spending the time we do have together talking, going on a short hike, literally anything but watching someone play games on YouTube. It's probably a total lie but it's just pathetic that he thinks that is a efficient use of his time.
