I believe Mike said on one stream that he apparently tried to get James set up for streaming but James just didn't want to do it.

Case and point this video of James playing Metroid solo.
This might be one of the first instances where I realized how integral Mike was in helping James make entertaining videos.

Wow, he is pretty bad at Metroid. I don't remember ever having that much trouble beating Kraid. But then again, I didn't fight Kraid with the Wave Beam like a dumbass.

He was just as bad at Metroid II IIRC. The pre-map Metroids aren't exactly intuitive, but the second game is way easier than the first IMO.

Shouldn't Screenwave get their own thread, don't they work with content creators besides James?
They do, but their faggotry has been seen the most on James channel. As far as I'm aware they have not been as invasive on other channels and try to force their way into the shows.

If anything she probably increased the dose
He was

He was definitely on something when he wrote that autobiography for sure
I'm shitposting but when you watch the vlogs or anything with him not being in character he does seem "off." Like he's a little slower to react to things and more awkward. Could it be a reaction to stress at home/Screenwave? Or maybe his mind is going like Bruce Willis in his final acting years? Who knows? But a change did happen.

I'm sure he's way over AVGN and any kind of film making at this point. He's over 40 now, has two kids to deal with, and wasn't able to break into the film industry. But that sweet internet money will keep coming in as long as he stays involved to some degree. I don't blame him, I'd be doing the same damn thing.
One thing I do wonder about is if he's gotten screwed over, if only slightly, with all of the AdSense nonsense. He used to do just fine with ad revenue, merch sales, and I'm assuming he has a Patreon (don't care enough to bother looking right now, ha).

Then at some point, he started shilling sponsorships just like almost every full-time YouTuber. So either he really likes making money or he might "need" those sponsorships in order to stay afloat. I know sponsorships are tempting, but every time I see them, I have to wonder how many of them are genuine or if it's just a paycheck.

As much as I find sponsorships annoying, shoutout to all YouTubers who always put those ads at the END of the video, where they belong. Don't put that crap at the beginning of your video, or heaven forbid, in the damn middle.

For sure. But it's fascinating to chart the decline. All James has to do is listen to criticism and put actual effort into making content. That's it. That simple. Maybe hire some writers to work on AVGN? Jontron does that. No shame in it. Of course he'd respond with "Screenwave does all that." But no one likes Screenwave. No one likes anyone over there and no one likes their writing and game choices since Korine whatever his name is (Caveman guy) dished the details that they pick games or heavily suggest to James which games to play to ride the algorithm.

Picking games to ride the algorithm is not a bad idea. James used to do that with reviews of things in theaters like the X-Men games and Terminator games reviews. But Sonic and Knuckles? Really? May as well just make him play Sonic Boom at that point. There's plenty of bad Sanic games to choose from as well but I could see them picking Sonic and Knuckles to ride the nostalgia wave of autists.

Edit: I think at this point it's confirmed that the reason for the decline is a 50/50: Screenwave is an issue but James just not giving a fuck anymore and still expecting the same views that he got when he gave a fuck is another major issue.

I don't know much about how sponsorships work other than you need to say positive things. Do they have rules or perks for where you put them in the video?

I don't know too many specific details because I don't make YouTube videos, let alone been offered a sponsorship but some YouTubers have spoken up about how the process works.

First off, it's normally, if not always, a "Don't call us, we'll call you (first)" kind of deal. Normally a person will not be approached by a company unless they have good numbers (view count, subs, comments, ratings, etc.)

When a company gives an offer, they also give you a contract to read and sign. The contract varies from company to company, but some of them do have very specific rules, including direct quotes they want you to say (Raid Shadow Legends is infamous in this regard). If you don't follow the rules, you don't get the cash and in the worst case, get sued by the company (breach of contract). It's why some YouTubers outright reject all sponsorships deals because of the strict rules, sometimes not being allowed to speak about the sponsorship for X amount of years.

Jim (Internet Aristocrat/ Mister Metokur) used to get sponsorship deals because of his metrics, so he had to keep telling them to fuck off enough times until they quit. I think it finally worked when he told them "Okay, I'll shill your product, but I'm going to say the most racist things imaginable so everyone associates your product with white supremacy". That got them to stop real quick. As you can imagine, controversy is any company's kryptonite.

So in other words, "it depends". AustinMcConnell, a YouTuber I've watched a long time and respect (and not just because he always puts his sponsorship deals at the end of his videos, where I can skip them if I wish) encourages anyone who gets approached with a sponsorship deal to make sure you yourself would use the product and not only stand by it, but you can abide by the contract. It's better to lose some money than get yourself in a bind.

A few weeks back there was a brief flap involving a youtuber named Mr. Nightmare (mentioned elsewhere in the Farms) where he put plugs for Dead by Daylight Mobile throughout the video. It was hilarious and became a meme.

Days later dude was saying this happened because the sponsor requested he do it that way. I'll let you decide whether that's true or just him covering his ass.

James is the guy who never made a Patreon for years and years. He has no time for sponsorships until Screenwave convinced him to put them in.

You had to mention that cursed game, didn't you? I'd be curious to see the video because I know the Chinese company Net-Ease is behind the mobile port but I haven't seen anyone outside of the officially sanctioned shill program called Fog Whisperer* shill the game.

*The community refers to Fog Whisperers as Fag Whisperers.
